Anyone recommend a good one? I'd like a sofabed. DH thinks we should go for a fold up campbed... . . .We've had bad experiences with inflatables..

Any tips, please?

Futon?

WendyWeber · 01/04/2008 00:04

Where do you want to keep it, and do you want o be able to sit on it sometimes?

We have had lots! atm we have a metal-action sofabed, as a bed it's OK (if narrow for 2) but it is bleeding heavy and v difficult to move.

We also have a single futon chairbed - folding wooden frame plus futon mattress - OK as both chair and bed, but the chair part is only about 6" off the floor.

I have just ordered an actual folding guestbed thing, John Lewis one but off ebay (but after 8 days there is no sign of it so am a bit ) - anyway it's this one - has 4" thick foam mattress and 14 wooden slats.

Finally, if you have space you could get one of those single beds with a gues bed that tucks under; you can have those as either 2 single beds or a very wide double.

This is the tucked under type

futon chair-bed

Thank you for your suggestions. It's for my mum mostly who's 75 and has a dicky hip so she'd need something not too low like futon which otherwise would have been ideal!

Plus the single bed + guest bed underneath has been vetoed by the old dear. She feels it would just be a single bed with a gap and another single bed IYSWIM.

Hmm. Sorry to be difficult.....

We have a guest bed with bed underneath and all our guests have commented on how comfortable it is - it is a Relyon. Mainly couples who have not complained about the non-existent gap! Alternatively, a http://www.furniture123.co.uk/layouts/item.asp/itmid/14130/d/Optimal-Folding-Guest-Bed/s/?cm_mmc=aff iliatewindow--null--null-_-null good quality folding bed - preferably with wooden slats and sprung mattress rather than the metal springs and foam mattresses you get on cheaper models.

alternatively folding bed

WendyWeber · 01/04/2008 21:16

Ah, OK - given the dicky hip, how about a click-clack sofabed?

Not necessarily this specific one, but they are less faff to open and close than a conventional sofabed, and make a decent-sized sleeping area.

Great ideas. Thank you so much for your help. Will look into these two - folding bed and click clack sofa bed type.

oh Winky if you have the space / cash consider this one - it is fabulous.
Tis the only one I've found where the mattresses zip together so it actually makes a king-size bed with no gap at all - actually the one on the link is 2 x 3' beds so makes a superking, but if you go to the store they do the same style that's 2 x 2'6" beds so makes a 5' bed, which is what we have.
