can't decide

mileage is prob about 5 k per year and we'd be getting a diesel. We have about 8k to spend really (but the less the better as we're paying it back), so are prob going to get quite high mileage and an 03 car.

Am worried about the false floors on both, the official advice is not to use car seats with "feet" on false floors.

We have a 6 week old, a 2.8 yo and a 4 year old.

yes I know this is deeply boring. I would rather gnaw my own leg off than look at more car info but I am not sure that that would help much.

fillyjonk - I have just added a photo of 3 differnt stage car seats in the back of my picasso (which is pale blue btw)

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 22:10

oh and they look HAPPY too!

(they are very sweet there )

tbh i think another part of the problem is that I need to accept that I must buy a mummymobile

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 22:17

I know that feeling well...when I bought my 'mummyshuttle' I insisted on getting something in a non-mummy colour (whatever that is ) So I got black .

That metallic dark grey is cool on the Picasso - gun metal grey I believe?

We went and sat in a Picasso the other day and rejected it, on the grounds of height. I'm 5 ft 7 and felt it was perfect for me, but DH is considerably taller, and when he had the seat where he wanted it the steering wheel was practically in his lap, and his nose against the windscreen. The back of the car is roomy and fab, but the front is ruined by the super sloping windscreen, why?

Never tried a Scenic, but we've had a Megane estate for a few years and no problems. We had a serious accident in it, we and our then unborn DD were unscathed. We had bought it partly on the grounds of it's good safety rating, and I'm glad we did.

Hmmm, I am currently having the same dilemma with Scenic v C-Max v Picasso.

Apparently, as a bloke I am supposed to know about these things. But I don't. On aesthetics I'd prefer a Scenic but I'm worried about the electrics; I've had Fords before with no problems (and 'better for parts' sat the real blokes). The Picasso is a bit too cheap looking. Fundamentally I just don't really care. Aren't cars boring?

Currently leaning towards the C-Max.

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 22:52

yes agree

who gives a feck really

its a sodding CAR

but I still cannot decide

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 22:53

one thing that worries me re the scenic

the electrics are crap, this is not really in dispute I take it?

yet they have chosen to make EVERYTHING electric. incl the brake (fgs WHY?) and the bloody key to open the thing

this makes me a bit

Da x 3 - we had the same debate, DP didn't like the look of the Scenic or the Picasso that much, personally I think they all look v similar and are much of a muchness. We ended up with the CMAX and I was really terrified about driving it at first after having a Clio but it's been great so far.

We only have 2 car seats in it just now but DD3 due in July so will see how we get on but have been assured you can get 3 in.

sweetkitty · 30/03/2008 22:55

filly - thats what happened with my friends Scenic - she couldn't lock it with the weird key thingie, then the brakes went and her lights were going on and off willy nilly. I think in more recent models they have fixed it though.

JossStick · 30/03/2008 22:57

Have you considered a Berlingo? Yes i know it's a van and drives like one but it's soooooo spacious and very economical (considering today's Diesel prices).

Also - it pulls any caravan / tailor etc. splendidly.

Anyhoo - i'm in love with my van!

JossStick · 30/03/2008 22:57

Trailor

DaDaDa · 30/03/2008 23:08

Pull a tailor? Suits you madam.

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 23:12

No! Not caravans too! Bloody CARS are enough!

Mazda 5 - sliding doors: trust me till you've tried em you won't know how GENIUS they are...

Or Ford Galaxy: three full size seats like the Citroen...

Both look nicer IMHO

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 23:21

lol

I have 8k to spend

I don't think I'll be getting a mazda for that really...

OP posts:
Monkeybird · 30/03/2008 23:24

you might get a secondhand one?

bluenosesaint · 30/03/2008 23:36

I have a Scenic and i love it.

I have never had any problems with it (its a 2004 diesel model which i've had for nearly 3 years) and have found the service from Renault to be excellent.

I drove a Picasso before i bought the scenic and i didn't like it at all. It seemed to roll a lot and it just didn't feel right.

I would have no problem in recommending a Scenic based on my experiences.

hth

Fillyjonk · 31/03/2008 09:03

is it possible that some models have problems and some don't?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 31/03/2008 09:16

oh we had a Berlingo before a Picasso - it was lovely too, but Picasso is a tad more stylish !

Othersideofthechannel · 31/03/2008 10:10

Fillyjonk, I was talking to DH about this last night and he says that the Scenic II (the one with the spiky rear rather than rounded rear) is supposed to be more reliable.

Fillyjonk · 31/03/2008 11:00

REALLY

that is v useful

cos my god the spiky one looks better

OP posts:
bluenosesaint · 31/03/2008 11:17

Mine is a Scenic with the shaky bum (1.9 diesel) if that helps
