can't decide

mileage is prob about 5 k per year and we'd be getting a diesel. We have about 8k to spend really (but the less the better as we're paying it back), so are prob going to get quite high mileage and an 03 car.

Am worried about the false floors on both, the official advice is not to use car seats with "feet" on false floors.

We have a 6 week old, a 2.8 yo and a 4 year old.

yes I know this is deeply boring. I would rather gnaw my own leg off than look at more car info but I am not sure that that would help much.

i am trying to think "oh they only post if they had had a bad experience"

but its bloody hard in the face of cars breaking down on the motorway

Well, I don't do anything like as much motorway driving as you, but we have driven it fair distances (London-Liverpool-London, London-South Wales-London, London-Dorset-London) without any trouble. It struggles to go much over 85, but then I don't want to go that fast anyway.

Really, there are so many Picassos out there - I can't believe they would have sold so many if they were death-traps.

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 20:47

leaning t/wards scenic i THINK

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 20:47

towards picasso

cmax an outside contender, all to play for

We were given a CMAX by a hire company and found it v uncomfortable and flimsy-feeling compared to our Scenic, I definitely wouldn't buy one.

We've had our Grand Scenic for 8 months and no probs at all. It feels very solid to drive. The kids love it.

Whichever you get, make sure you get enough power for decent acceleration when full of people and stuff. Ours is good but some models are underpowered, I am told.

oregonianabroad · 30/03/2008 20:58

We have a scenic.

it's OK.

nothing else to add, really, except that like you, I research these things to death and ask everyone and worry if we'll make the right choice.... but, it's still just a car.

good luck making the right choice.

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 21:06

I THINK that is right oregnian

I need to get a grip i think

if i can be sure that this car won't fail on me in a dangerous way, the choice is much easier as the scenic comes in nicest colours

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 30/03/2008 21:09

that's how we made the choice in the end.

BTW, dh has a ford foucs (not a cmax) and no way does it have enough room for 3 kids.

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 21:12

oh dear they are different types of focus

fgs, why can they not call their cars "tiny", "normal ego", "venti", and "penis extender"? Would make life so much simpler.

You won't get 3 good car seats in the back of a Focus for sure. The only combination I could fit in the back of mine included some of the worst performers.

I vote for the Picasso, the scenic is incredibly unreliable IME....and they tend to rust more (we are able to compare that sort of thing pretty easily here as we are right next to the sea so the rusting process is speeded up a fair bit )

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 21:25

dp said the cabin on the picasso was for short people-thoughts?

I am 5 6 so will be fine but he is 6 ft and I want him to drive frequently

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 21:26

BBM is that a cmax focus?

ok the only problem with the picasso then is the occasional cutting out on motorways...(which may be a bit more unusual than I have been led to believe by the fora)

No 'normal' focus

policywonk · 30/03/2008 21:46

Our Picasso is a sort of racing green. And I'm 5 foot 10 (and have stupidly, stupidly long torso - practically the same height sitting down as I am standing up), and it doesn't give me any irritating head-brushing problems.

Fillyjonk · 30/03/2008 21:55

oh i like green, i like green

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/03/2008 21:57

mine is a very cool metallic grey
