Don't want a wooden one as way too expensive.
Cheapest plastic one I can find is ELC, which is £30.00 + sand.

All pickup only on ebay, and nowhere near where I live.

try freecycle

BettySpaghetti · 28/03/2008 19:38

A few here at Argos including wooden ones for around £30

PersonalClown · 28/03/2008 19:39

How about This?
Ds has it. It's a decent size, you can use the lid as a water pool/paddling pool.
Quite solid in construction but not heavy if you get what I mean.

VivalaDiva · 28/03/2008 19:40

I got a water/sand table from Argos for £14.99 but that was last summer - this one seems similar.

fizzbuzz · 28/03/2008 19:40

Thanks Bettyspaghetti, that apple one is great and cheap as well.

Am a Freecycle virgin, but will sneak a look............

Got ours from Argos was 19.99 just last summer. Still going strong!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/03/2008 19:43

I agree sandpits seem to be regularly offered on our freecycle, you can always ask.

chamaeleon · 28/03/2008 19:45

post a wanted fizzbuzz, its more likely you will get one as if you wait to see an advert you will have to compete with everyone else who replies

Whizzz · 28/03/2008 19:47

I am dying to post "Yes, it's a hole int he ground filled with sand"....but I won't

brimfull · 28/03/2008 19:48

if you live near me you can have mine?

Nemoandthefishes · 28/03/2008 19:58

tescos have a little tikes turtle one for £14.99 in the direct catalogue

fizzbuzz · 28/03/2008 21:21

No energy to dig a hole Whizzz.........dd needs constant entertainment, hence need for sandpit.

Where do you live Ggirl...anywhere near S.Yorks?

Cappuccino · 28/03/2008 21:23

we've got one similar to the apple one

it does

but it needs a tarp over it for when it rains

stripeybumpsmum · 28/03/2008 21:32

We have plastic storage crate with lid from Ikea - about £2 I think, 25 kg bag of play sand from Toys R Us - £4, and various bits from the recycling bin as measuring cups etc.

DS (2) very good at 'feeding' the garden plants sand so having a smaller container which can be topped up much better IMHO

brimfull · 28/03/2008 23:37

no hants I'm afraid

sazm · 29/03/2008 13:49

we had a wooden sandpit(cost £50) and it was a nightmare, always fell apart, sand went all yucky.
we now have a sand and water table and its SO much better. much easier to clean out,and clean up when the dc throw the sand everywhere lol.
it only holds a small bag of sand,we get ours (£2.99 i think) from tesco.much easier to clean out too.
the tesco one sounds good,it you prefer a sandpit.

windygalestoday · 29/03/2008 13:53

Just keep your eyes open we were going to get the ELC one but it looked cheap for the £30 tag then whilst having a coffee in tj hughes we saw a whole stack of similar plain ones for a £5 each the sand was quite expensive at £3 a bag we needed 7-8 BUT in tesco at the end of last summer we got 6 bags for 45p each!!!!

if i were you id check out freecycle for one s they are v hardy and tend to outlast the child and they are cumbersome if you have no children to njoy them maybe someone would be happy to give you their old one - you must get one tho my ds have a lot of fun in ours, even the older kids seem happy to have a dig and mess about in there.

Fullmoonfiend · 29/03/2008 13:55

I have a very old, faded one with a lid you can have for nowt - in north yorks though.

Seriously, join freecycle, amazing stuff given away in your area all the time!

Ledodgy · 29/03/2008 13:56

here £19.99 reduced from£39.99!

nappyaddict · 06/04/2008 13:41

sazm - did yours have a lid?

sazm · 06/04/2008 13:58

it had a cover, which was TOTALLY useless,it blew off,and even when we tied it on it still let the rai in,we were really dissappointed with it as it was quite expensive, but we thought it would be a really good one.also the sand in it sits on the ground as there is no bottom to the sandpit,so we had to make a bottom for it!
this summer we are buying a big sand table from toys r us,as we had a little one last year an it was great but eventually broke.

i would go for the tesco one if i was buying sandpit again,

GrapefruitMoon · 06/04/2008 14:01

Definitely look on Freecycle - and post a Wanted ad. This time of year people are thinking about tidying up the garden, getting rid of outgrown stuff, etc. I just got rid of my sandpit this way - saw a Wanted on Freecycle but they already had been offered a sandpit but it prompted me to offer my own on the board. Needless to say ds2 started looking for it a few weeks later, even though he hadn't played with it at all last year

nappyaddict · 06/04/2008 14:18

sazm - was the lid one of those with slats in? my friend had one of those and it was useless cos it let the rain in.

sazm · 06/04/2008 14:35

sorry i wasnt sure if it was the pit or table you were asking about!(soz just realised that!)
the sandpit just had a plastic tarpualin cover thing that sat on the top,
the sandtable from argos had a solid plastic cover which was great no water got in,and it can be used as a normal table with the cover on it.

nappyaddict · 06/04/2008 14:47

was it like this
