Would you put a trampoline in your child's bedroom if you had no garden?

We live in a flat, but my boys share a large bedroom. I am desperate to create more physical opportunities for them inside. I have found a trampoline from a German catalogue (one that delivers here that I have ordered stuff from before) that is shown being used inside (look at the picture on the right trampoline ), but have never seen anything like it in the UK. I have measured their room and it will fit ok. We have laminate floor (like in the picture). I am wondering if it is safe.

Any thoughs?

My boys will be 7 and 4 when I buy this.

Hi

I have a small trampoline in the girls bedroom and it's been fine, they have carpet and it's not been particularly noisy and no accidents - they've had it 18 months???? It fits under the bed too

I wouldn't but that's just my opinion. I do know someone who lives in a flat with a large hall which houses their slide & has a swing from the roof but its one of those Victorian flats with high ceilings etc. I thought it was odd at first but you get used to it.

LadyMuck · 12/03/2008 17:09

I think that the only indoor trampoline that I would consider at that age is one of those small exercise ones, and to be honest even then I would be very very hesistant about it.

IlanaK · 12/03/2008 17:10

Is it one of those small exercise type trampolines? I think is much "bouncier" if you see what I mean - more like a proper trampoline. I am really keen to get it and not too worried about injury, but my dh is worried.

My kids treat their beds as trampolines.

luckylady74 · 12/03/2008 17:15

trampolines are infamous for causing injuries, but that one is very low to the ground - I would try and buy some kind of matting or a thick rug to put it on - a 7 yr old in full 'leap' landing on face on wooden floor - that's the worst case scenario and would be a lot better on something soft!

If you ever come to the uk toysrus and asda do similar ones with full surround netting or argos do the ones with handles - in boxes they're not that big.

luckylady74 · 12/03/2008 17:17

indoor exercise in our house is pulling the cushions off the sofa and doing belly flops/ somersaults. We build assault courses too.

IME the main sorce of injuries are kids colliding with each other rather than the floor. You need to think through whether you have enough space for both of them to be on it (because they will want to be) and how to handle the subsequent collisions.

belgo · 12/03/2008 17:22

luckylady - indoor exercise is cheap in my house too - no special equipment required

IlanaK · 12/03/2008 17:28

I am in the UK. I didn't realise that Toysrus did these. The ones with handles are just not robust enough for a 7 year old. They are definately designed for younger children.

Ok, I just looked at the toysrus website. Would I be crazy to get one of those trampolines with enclosed netting (the smaller one) for their bedroom? It would take up a lot of space obviously and could not be put away easily. Am I nuts?

OP posts:
CarGirl · 12/03/2008 17:41

I'd want to find out how quick/easy it is to take the netting and poles down? Although they could use it like a den?

IlanaK · 12/03/2008 17:46

What about this as an alternative cushion though it is very expensive compared to the trampoline.

Aren't the ones with netting taller? if they are bigger (wider) they need to be higher off the ground because the elastic bounces down more - so the legs are higher so they will break their necks crashing into the ceiling!

Your neighbours will go potty!

Find the beams and hand a trapeze bar or rope ladder from a serious bolt.

Take them to the park!

WE HAVE ONE IN OUR DD'S ROOM!!!!!and we have a garden lol,
we just bought the little one from woolworths with the enclosure,it's 5ft round and about 6ft high,it cost us £49.99,and its one of the best things we have ever bought
we bought it for dd's 2nd b'day, and our ds is 4, they both LOVE it and i would say theres plenty room for a 7yo on it.
we put ours in the bedroom just now but it will go outside in the summer time, just at the mo our garden is a bit wet and muddy.

IlanaK · 12/03/2008 19:10

Thanks Sazm! I was beginning to think I was crazy! Of course I take my children to the park. IN fact, I am lucky enough to live very near Regent's Park. But I have to say I have never seen a trampoline there . It is not always feasible to get to the park each day, particulary in bad weather. If you do not live in a flat with no outside space it is probably hard to understand how important short bursts of physical play are.

Right now I am leaning towards the cushion trampoline I linked to just because it could be put out of the way when not in use.

Any thoughts on thatone?

My children use the bed anyway! Even got me bouncing along recently.

BroccoliSpears · 12/03/2008 19:35

Our trampoline is currently in the sitting room.

We're moving it into the garden as soon as the weather clears up, honest.

sazm · 12/03/2008 19:59

oooh do think the cushion one would be as bouncy??looks interesing,
lol we used to have one of those little tykes cube climb and slide things in the living room when our ds was small!
