Guess how much Boden is charging for a 6-pack of girls cotton knickers?

Yup, plain old cotton briefs (OK they have spots on them). Same price whether they are for 2 year olds or 12 year olds. What am I bid?

£22

No, that isn't a mistake. TWENTY TWO QUID

That is just bloody insulting IMO. Whole catalogue goes in the bin.

But my DD often wants to wear pants on her head, or over her tights. Maybe they are aimed at people like me?

LynetteScavo · 27/02/2008 20:03

Princess Pea Head, your whole catalogue goes in the bin, but they will send you 3 more next week.

I second the recommendation for gymboree pants - they are the best cut (wish they did them in a ladies size 12), lovely heavyweight cotton and fabulous quality. Gymboree & Petit Bateau pants are the only makes that have lasted both of my girls without any damage to the seams etc.

SheherazadetheGoat · 28/02/2008 09:16

stands up and applauds princesspeahead.

the brora catalog has inexplicitly started turning up any my door and its prices make my head spin but i don't mind that so much as it reflects the prices of good quality clothes made in this country. i would like to mmet a baby in that cashmere outfit!

legalalien · 28/02/2008 09:57

slight diversion, but for boring black man-socks to your door, you really can't beat sockrush. Last ages, turn up every three months (at which point you can chuck the dodgiest pairs), and have coloured toes so you can match pairs (I know, they're all black, but you can keep the "same age" ones together).

also, if anyone is looking for a business to start up, could they please consider arranging a UK franchise for jk kids who make quality children's clothes for VERY reasonable prices (NZ $ about 2.8 to one last time I checked).....

PrincessPeaHead · 28/02/2008 19:40

OK I've had a reply back from boden.
Some slightly worrying news... apparently those pants have the LOWEST MARGIN IN THEIR RANGE. Yes, folks, if you think they are making a huge amount on those pants, just imagine what they are making on a hotchpotch t-shirt

I quote
"The girl's pants are actually the lowest margin product in our range. We felt the cost was justifiable given that the pants are made from a top quality jersey and gift boxed from a very reputable factory with good working conditions.. I am only sorry that you feel that they are too expensive."

Whaddya think?

I think Twenty Two pound coins in exchange for 6 pairs of pants is a lot of money, gift boxed or not.

I bet it is the gift box that is eating into their usual 420% profit margin and reducing it down to 350%

Why would you need a gift box with pants anyway?

Daylight robbery.

good lord

if the gift box is that blimming pricey, then why not offer the option of having them without.

anyway, shouldn't it be girls' ?

liath · 28/02/2008 19:59

I'd want them to be hand made in ethicalfairtradenonchildslavery organic cotton for that price.

hippipotami · 28/02/2008 20:00

Outrageously expensive, and very weak justification by Johnnie!

Acutally, I received their mini Boden catalogue today. I found all the girls stuff to be a complete re-hash from previous years. It was all very samey samey. In fact they have brought back the 'apple' fabric from 3 years or so ago!! I am almost getting to the point where I am bored with miniBoden...
I also found some of the items looked very cheaply made (well, I though that just from teh photographs) and certainly looked no better than something I could pick up in Primark for £2.
(but then you enter the whole ethical debate and I don't know where to go with that...)

I think perhaps they are not too hot at their job.
