Guess how much Boden is charging for a 6-pack of girls cotton knickers?

PrincessPeaHead · 27/02/2008 15:34

Yup, plain old cotton briefs (OK they have spots on them). Same price whether they are for 2 year olds or 12 year olds. What am I bid?

£22

No, that isn't a mistake. TWENTY TWO QUID

That is just bloody insulting IMO. Whole catalogue goes in the bin.

Do we know that Boden has high standards in its factories? Or are we just assuming because they're expensive?

colditz · 27/02/2008 17:39

Pants can be ethical without being 22 pound sterling! That's £3 a pair.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 27/02/2008 17:51

Why would anyone buy knickers from Boden????
Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, in the basket wirh the baked beans, no further effort required.

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/02/2008 17:58

I have in the past bought ds some Boden pants and they wwere nice quality, soft cotton...but agree that they are ludicrously expensive -won't be doing it again. Petit Bateau underwear is lovely if you want to spend some money other than in M&S/Asda etc

hifi · 27/02/2008 18:02

yes but the bonus is you could get free post and returns.

3andnomore · 27/02/2008 18:04

Hm, Blu, but gap is expensive and they are one of the worst for child labour, etc...so...a hefty price does not necessarily mean that Boden actually pays their labourers well and are ethical, etc...

orangina · 27/02/2008 18:18

but pph if you buy.... ooh, say 7 packs and spend more than £150, you will get 10% off and free p&p...
(can't ask for more than that).

actually, am gobsmacked.

Desiderata · 27/02/2008 18:18

If I had a daughter and I'd spent that much, I'd want her to go to school with her skirt tucked into her kaks.

PrincessPeaHead · 27/02/2008 18:21

I sent a snotty email to customer services
I shall keep you posted as to any reply

My dh just bought 3 pairs of lovely boxers in Primark for £3!! I bet they are probably made in the same bloomin factory as Boden.

Anna8888 · 27/02/2008 18:28

MaryAnn - yup, Petit Bateau is lovely - EUR 10.40 for a two-pack of quite plain knickers for my three year old...

charliecat · 27/02/2008 18:30

Is this for people who are so not poor they dont have to look at prices?

DarthVader · 27/02/2008 18:33

Petit Bateau - expensive underwear & PJs but fabulous - get them cheap in the french supermarkets!

I think Pumpkin Patch have the best pants of the year - v good quality.

PPH you could get up a petition about the Boden pants and ask for a response from Johnny himself. It is truly ludicrous. I have pretty much dumped Boden kids this year too - poor designs and the quality has dropped in my opinion too.

Lulumama · 27/02/2008 18:34

dunno charliecat, i think that even if you can buy stuff without thinking about the price, then charging ridicolous amounts for products is actually insulting..

#24 for 3 pairs socks? #22 for 6 pairs of knikckers

rich people also like value for money, i think and not to be treated as more money than sense

hifi · 27/02/2008 18:35

they have very few retail outlets so i dont know why its so expensive , being mail order.

DarthVader · 27/02/2008 18:35

oops sorry you have already emailed Johnny!

I remain bemused.

Hands up every MN-er who has ever bought a gorgeous itty bitty skimpy cotton t for themselves and paid £22 for it... yes, that's...quite a lot.

And one T has two arms, one neck and one waist to do things to with a sewing machine and less fabric than 6 pairs of girls knickers, which collectively have 6 waists and 12 legs to sew. So whereas I personally would not pay for Boden pants I wouldn't be so outraged that I would throw the catalogue in the re-cycling Especially, PPH, if I was paying for them with money taken out of my rather lavishly priced beyond any rational explanation handbag

Blu · 27/02/2008 18:53

petit bateau are a ridiculous price in the UK but I bought a pack of 3 very smart and tasteful striped pants for DS in Carrefour for about Eu 9, I think.

bercause I am a bit snobbish about endles 'transformer' panst from woolies or Mothercare which have big platic sweat-inducing transfers over the....crucial bit.

LilOrphanAnnie · 27/02/2008 18:58

The only person I know who wears Boden underwear is a mate from University, 7 figure City worker, who lives at home still, and his mother buys his boxer shorts and socks from Boden. Definitely in the more money than sense category.

bundle · 27/02/2008 19:00

petit bateau pants are expensive but dd1's have lasted and good enough condition to hand down to dd2 - they too were only about a fiver in an italian hypermarket

pointydog · 27/02/2008 19:02

I find my transformer pants quite suitable. They fire up dh, that's fpor sure

orangina · 27/02/2008 19:12

(waves back at pph, monkeys favourite pants currently rather tasty set of 3 with fifi on them from mothercare! priceless obviously...)

popsycal · 27/02/2008 19:20

Crazy!

There are 2 things I buy from Boden and always get them in the sale - the printed boarding shorts and the sttirpey towelling jumpers (both great for blustery north east summers

They have been worn and washed to death and even the second hand ones that ds2 will be wearing this summer are in great condition.

But £22 for pants???? Crrrrrrrraaaazy!

PrincessPeaHead · 27/02/2008 19:53

yes but blu, your skimpy tshirt has had some thought gone into it re cut, styling, colour etc. we all know the difference between a tshirt that is cut to make you feel fabulous and one which makes you look like a baglady, definitely worth paying another - oh, say £18 over the tesco charlady version

but these are just PANTS. They are the same as any other pants. They aren't on show, you can't make the neighbours jealous about the high quality of your dd's admirable pants (well, not without raising eyebrows). We all know they cost 20p to make (all 6) and required no styling or design input whatsoever.

I'm STILL outraged, despite your best efforts...!
