Car Seats DD approaching max weight but only 2.4

Paddlechick666 · 18/02/2008 13:18

We have a maxi-cosi tobi and xp for DD who is 2.4 and 17.5kg and tall!

I see the max weight on these seats is 18kg but the next stage is considered for 4yrs+

Anyone got any advice on how to proceed?

Am worried about moving her up into a seat that purely uses the adult belt as she's a little monkey and will soon be able to un-click herself!

TIA

Heh, DD has Happy Flowers, she was in heaven when she went from her black and grey Bebe Confort to that.

I think it's a nice seat - DD falls asleep in it from time to time, the only times she's flopped forward have been when she's been wearing something with a hood (in particular her dressing gown when we were travelling after bedtime) which pushes her head just far enough that it tips forward.

Indian Spice is also nice, had my friend's daughter's XP in the car yesterday, next to the Happy Flowers XR and they looked very jolly together!

forkhandles, definately the "normal" not the ultra as I think the head cushions are too fat and will squash dd's head.

I think dd will have to settle for something in muted colours. I dislike pink intensley despite it being her fave colour!

If it helps anyone, Kiddicare have the Britax Evolva 123 Ultra for just under £100 atm.

Paddlechick666 · 24/02/2008 08:37

thanks fairy, they've also got good deals and nice colours in the evolva.

I was looking at this the other day, as ds is now three.

The thinking is that you should try to keep them in the full seats for as long as possible, but you should certainly change (regardless of age) if their head is significantly higher than the back of the seat.

VanillaPumpkin · 24/02/2008 11:55

Don't call me baby - Can you remember if the material on the Indian Spice felt soft and 'non-sweaty', like the Happy Flowers material. Thank you from an obsessed VanillaPumpkin.....

Link to Which report results in case anyone does a search and finds it useful

Paddlechick666 · 24/02/2008 14:42

I still don't get how the Evolva (normal) can score less than the Ultra & MC XR when it gets 4s or 5s on all categories but the Ultra & XR get 3s in some cases.

thanks for the link Vanilla.

H (we're separated) took his campervan to Halfords yesterday and the guy insisted he meant the Britax 1-2-3 which of course didn't fit.

dur to Mr Halfords. H says he told him it was the 2-3 he wanted to try out.

I am pretty certain it will fit DM's and my car so it's just the (Mid-Life-Crisis-Purchase) campervan that I want to be 100% on fit.

H has been told to go back today!

Rusty Bear has given some Feb 2008 results on another thread. They are saying much the same thing.
I know what you mean about the scores .
Lol at the midlife crisis camper van. Sounds like my (child-free) BIL.
I think as long as it has the three point belts you should be OK, as long as no buckle crunch. This stage seat seems to fit better than other stages in more cars if you see what I mean.

Paddlechick666 · 24/02/2008 15:03

I'm trying to be annoyed about the campervan but he's said I can borrow it to take DD to Latitude in the summer so I am somewhat mollified LOL.

He's also said he'll take us kite surfing in May so I think I might actually benefit from this part of his MILC.

Oh, yes we LOVE BIL's van. Quite really as we couldn't have/afford one with the children. It is so much FUN though .

DontCallMeBaby · 24/02/2008 15:35

Vanilla, the Indian Spice fabric felt very much like the Happy Flowers one, also non-sweaty (I got to carry friend's DD's seat quite some distance thanks to a digger across their road, so had a good chance to check it out).

VanillaPumpkin · 24/02/2008 15:36

.
Thank you. That is what I wanted to hear!!!

With regard to which?'s scorings... I have issue with them at the moment and am still awaiting a response!

Not sure if it's what has happened for the ones you are comparing, but basically they changed the way they did tests for the June 2007 report. Therefore some seats are not directly comparable with others, which were tested in previous years, but not retested. The maxi cosi tobi is the one I can think of off the top of my head. In the 2006 tests it gained 70%ish and was on a par with the isofix seats. it was a good 15-20% above the next best belt in group 1 seat. They retested it in 2007 under their new tests and gave it a 50 something score which is fair enough. But if you compare results between it and other belt in group 1 seats that were not retested, they appear to have around the same score. Which is not the case if you look at them side by side the previous year.

Hope that makes sense! Ultimately, I would go with one of the top 5 though...

hi, debating which car seat to go up to for ds who will be 3 in june. he weighs 17.8kg so has to move up soon! have maxi cosi priori, so was thinking fo rodi or britax, but today in halfords saw 2 cheap ones - michaelangelo and raffaello??! looked on internet and have found that they are made by bellelli - does anyone know anything about them? cant find any reviews on them anywhere? thanks

toothbrush · 17/03/2008 21:28

halfords raffaello car seat? should have posted this at beginning of message so people know what i am talking about!

Paddlechick666 · 18/03/2008 09:23

toothbrush, i haven't heard of either of those sorry.

i plumped for the Britax Evolva 2-3 in the end and bought it from Kiddicare for £49 plus £5 delivery.

Free delivery if you order over £50 but I just couldn't find anything else I wanted that was less than a fiver

The Which rating for this seat is good and IMO should exceded the Rodi etc if you compare them carefully but hey ho.

Kiddicare have a much larger range of colours than the High Street and have them in stock which the High Street don't seem to.
