wheresthehamster · 29/01/2008 23:10

Previa. The best.

Psychomum5 · 29/01/2008 23:12

previa is fab

chrysler voyager is fabber (is that a word)

thelittleElf · 29/01/2008 23:14

I borrowed a peugoet people carrier last week, and it took me TEN minuted to move it off the driveway, nearly making me late for the school pick up. Who's bloody bright idea was it to put the handbrake on the right hand side of the driver, rather than in the middle .

I pulled this, pushed that, twiddled any knobs i could find, and at one point nearly threw myself backwards in my seat .

thelittleElf · 29/01/2008 23:15

minutes not minuted

Psychomum5 · 29/01/2008 23:16

ah, the previa has the handbrake by the door too.....makes a great space between the front seats for a huge bag filled with all the needed stuff.

oh, miss my previa now....

OLDroot · 30/01/2008 09:44

I have had a Peugeot for 5 years adn it has been nohting but trouble.

I really like the Voager - great for a large family that are slighly older as well.

We had a P{revia years ago - the name reminds me of P;lacenta Previa

Volkswagon Touran. Lots of storage space, lots of power sockets, good mileage per gallon. Ours is diesel, very economical. Seats easy to remove. Seats 7... I could go on and on. I wish we had brought one much sooner than we did.

OLDroot · 30/01/2008 19:16

I have heard the touran is good

Citreon? Picasso Grande?? No idea what they are like but I know they are cheaper than most

Muppett · 31/01/2008 18:43

OLDroot - you should test drive with the family in the car, which is what we did and another reason why we chose the touran. The DSs loved the cup holders, the flip down tray, the ease of getting in and out, again I could go....

Boogalooblue · 31/01/2008 18:47

Citroen C8 has handbrake on the right as well, but is a great car

Iota · 31/01/2008 18:52

Audi Q7

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 31/01/2008 18:54

we've got a mazda 5, i like it because its not ugly or bulky like some other mpvs, oh and it has sliding doors - haaaandy.

ComeOVeneer · 31/01/2008 18:58

Just got a toyota verso 2 days ago. It is fab. 7 seats when you need them (I have sat as an adult sat in the very back row quite comfortably) Plenty of boot space (can make it huge as can put all 5 back seats totally flat). Apparently very reliable, also second hand not ridiculously expensive.

onlyjoking9329 · 31/01/2008 19:18

At the moment we have a loan car a chrysler voyager it is very nice, but it has three seats at the back and i don't think you can take one out i think its like a bench thing , i could be wrong as not really had a good look.
the car that we had written off three weeks ago was the citroen grand picaso C4, i so loved that car and it is very very safe, the policeman said it was thanks to that car that the four of us got out alive. i have a new one on order.

DontCallMeBaby · 31/01/2008 20:26

Mazda 5 coming out in automatic and manual-with-cruise-control versions in March ... so the only regret I have about mine is that they didn't have those versions a year ago. Great car. Oh, I also regret scraping it along the gatepost, but that's not compulsory.

BigBadMouse · 31/01/2008 20:37

We have a Seat Alhambra - same as VW Sharan and Ford Galaxy but better spec for your money (Galaxy has 'issues'). No complaints - drives like a car.

Don't buy an imported deisel Previa unless you can afford to buy a new engine for it(about 2.5K) they are fab until the head goes and they do with the fantastic regularity. The non imported Previas are nice though.

Voyager has crappy safety record doesn't it??

Citroens have poor internal build quality compared to other MPVs

Renault Espace = money pit, V unreliable. Look funky though

Have a look at a website like Parkers
to compare safety classifications etc

millie1 · 31/01/2008 21:20

BigBadMouse ... do you mind me asking what issues the Galaxy has? We've been looking at 7 seaters and it's probably the one that comes closest to meeting our needs. Thanks!

buktus · 31/01/2008 21:24

i have a galaxy and its fab, my only complaint is that the seats are very heavy to get in and out but obviously you are only doing this rarely (tip run etc), we have a diesel and its very cheap to run and very safe, we had a high speed accident on a french motorway last year, the accident repair centre couldnt believe how little damage it had caused and the kids didnt even wake up through it, very good car in my opinion

millie1 · 31/01/2008 21:27

Thanks buktus ... my only gripe is that the seats don't actually lift out of the new model Galaxy ... big mistake on their part, methinks!

BigBadMouse · 31/01/2008 21:38

Millie - various electircal faults. I have a good friend who is a ford mechanic and he knows the focus and galaxy inside out - he told us to avoid but since him telling us we have seen a few owner reviews saying the same. The car itself is fab but it is effectively the same as the Sharan and Alhambra - they are all built in the same factory and have the same VW engine (one galaxy model has a ford engine though). There are minor design differences between the three, dash, ext lights, layout - the galaxy has a poorly designed section at the front (near the windscreen I think) which can collect water and play havoc with the electrics hence the problems.

We spent 8 months choosing our MPV and I'm really pleased with our choice. If you are looking at the galaxy have you checked out the sharan and alhambra too? One bit that put me off all three was a lap belt in very centre seat, post 02 reg alhambras have a three point belt there (think it might be later models on the other two - not sure).

hth (and makes sense)
