or a renault. (must be french cars!!)wouldn't get one of these. have the grand scenic and have nothing but trouble. asked the aa man last time he was out what he would recommend. he said the only 2 that he never gets called to are the honda or toyota people carriers. said the only thing he really gets called out for the touran is that they don't have a spare wheel so it's mainly punctures.

hth.

Bongo. Seriously. A Mazda Bongo is the BEST car in the world.

BBM .... sorry haven't been on-line in a few days. Thanks for that information .. we'll certainly bear it in mind. Have looked at Sharan but concerned that it has been around for a few years and wonder whether VW will update it next year. Don't really want to buy now and have an 'old' model in 12 months time IYSWIM. Have looked at the Seat on-line but unfortunately DH (for whatever reasons) is not a Seat fan .

BigBadMouse · 03/02/2008 17:07

Hi Mille, they might update it soon I guess. I have to say though that sometimes the updated ones aren't as good as the older versions . The Galaxy and Seat have lost a lot of their good features while being updated - Seat no longer have front swivel seat option (which is really useful), new galaxy's apparently don't have removeable seats (read that on here somewhere - poss this thread ). All sounds a bit picky but they are really good, useful features to have IMO. I thought the reason for removing the feature was to increase safety but seemingly safety rating is still the same as before so maybe it is just a cost cutting measure (pure speculation on my part but I'm not the only one who has thought that was the case..).

I love the alhambra but not the sharan so much so back at your DH

We have a Zafira which we can't fault. It can have any amount of seats from two to seven and there's no lifting them out, they just fold down flat into the car. I guess the only problem would be taking it on holiday if there were seven people travelling as when all the seats are in use, then boot space is very limited, though w could still carry a buggy and coats etc asily enough. w use it with six seats up mostly and boot space is ample then. I'd recommend it.

WendyWeber · 03/02/2008 17:22

A Zafira isn't big enough for a family with 4 large-and-growing children though, Aero - we have one too, and I agree it's a really useful and versatile car, but it rarely has to carry more than 4 of us.

When our kids were younger and we needed a 7-8 seater we had a Toyota Space Cruiser, which was the one before the Previa - it was a bit tall and narrow and used a lot of petrol but was perfect size-wise (but even so we needed a roof rack on a camping holiday!).

If we needed that amount of space now I would get a diesel Previa - cheapish to run, large luggage space even with all the seats in use, and it's a Toyota, they go on forever!

OLDroot · 03/02/2008 17:38

I have seen a Preiva recently (on the road) that looked great.

Still swinging towards the grand Voyager but will look properly at the Previa.

My Peugeot is terrible - even after new engine ( 4 years old) it is sluggish adn has just had to have the heating system replaced

Taken from the Parker's review of the grand voyager...

....'The previous Voyager was crash tested by Euro NCAP in 1999 and performed poorly. This version (2001 -2008) was tested in early 2007 and fared just as bad with a two star result in an age when four and five stars are the norm. There is said to be "an unacceptably high risk of serious or fatal injury". Side airbags and ABS are standard - as you'd expect from a car of this class. Deadlocks and remote central locking are standard....'

are you sure you want to put your family in that???

Previa gets 4/5 stars for adult occupant safety and 3/5 for child occupants.

WendyWeber · 03/02/2008 17:51

They do look great, don't they, beety?

It is a bloody good car and I don't what Toyota are playing at stopping production (unless they have something even better up their sleeves!)

Toyota are always very close to the top of reliability lists - Chrysler aren't - after your Peugeot you don't want another mechanical nightmare
