Thinking of getting Mil and Fil one of these for Christmas - would you recommend it?

Please no one tell me it's a boring present

This thread is very old now, but we’ve recently updated our best George Foreman grill page with plenty of info on the brand, plus a shortlist of the grills Mumsnet users love. We hope it’s helpful.

godsend!
but nightmare to clean, but so what, you wont be cleaning it but you can sample the lovely food coming fromit!

colditzmum · 24/11/2004 22:11

I have one but don't use it as it seems to be a bggr to clean
However my dad and his partner swear by theirs, and use it almost daily. Do your mil and fil like healthy eating a lot/ Cos tbh it doesn't do much that a grill can't do.

lilibet · 24/11/2004 22:14

he has a lot of health problems brought on by being very overweight, so we are hoping it will be a bit of an incentive.

Or a whacking great hint

I've got the anthony Worral Thompson one- you take the plates off and put in dishwasher. My brother has the George F one and swears by it

Stripymouse · 24/11/2004 23:05

love it - use it almost every day - makes great paninis and toasty sarnies (not so healthy, but works a treat!)
We do everything from sausages, fresh tuna steaks, salmon, chicken, mushrooms, you name it.
Don?t understand why a couple of you have found them hard to clean, I reckon they are really easy to clean - just clean when still slightly warm and use paper towels to wipe down the non stick surface. The fat drip tray is easy to clean too - scrape out the worst and bung in dishwasher.

I got one as a wedding present and it's good but to be honest I've used it about twice in 2 years. My main reason for this is because we don't have a lot of space on our kitchen counters so we can't leave it out all the time and it's easier just to use the grill on the cooker rather than get it out of the cupboard everytime I want to use it. If it was there in front of me all the time I'm sure I'd use it more. The lady who gave it to us as a present has one and uses it every day and loves it.

Did you see the tv adverts tonight? Argos have got it at half price I think. No it isn't it's just some of them that are half price but they are all reduced. they're here

joash · 25/11/2004 22:30

did have one of those George Foreman thingy's - DD took it when she moved out a couple of weeks ago - CHARMING!!

Furball · 25/11/2004 22:30

I use mine loads as well and I also find it soo easy to clean, I just wipe it down with a kitchen towel and bung the drip tray in the dishwasher. Much easier than cleaning the grill pan and all those splatters off the inside of the oven!

joash · 25/11/2004 22:31

must admit, didn't use it much, couldn't get on with it - but DD used it daily.

Ags · 25/11/2004 23:26

My brother and his fiance have one and use it daily for the most outlandish concoctions! They love it. Also chatting while buying a bacon sandwich with someone in a shop about the handiness of not having to cook the bacon yourself and she launched into a litany of praise about the good old GF Grill. She loves hers and says it is fantastic so go ahead I think!

misdee · 25/11/2004 23:30

we have one. use it a lot. very handy for doing brekkie for one, as can fit sausage, bacon, hasbrown, mushrooms and maybe a tomato as well.

Are these grills any good to use all the time instead of a normal grill? Like when I want to grill 2 fishfingers for dd? Our oven doesn't have a grill in it, and the grill in the microwave has just died so I'm wondering about one of these thingies. I've got some Nectar points to spend at Argos...

The pictures all show them cooking chargrilled steaks or chicken or something, not potato waffles and Thomas Train Nuggetts...

mrsjingles · 10/12/2004 17:21

I just got the King george, which is the biggest they do. It was in argos reduced from £89 to £44, absolute bargain. We've used it every day since, very easy to clean. We just wipe it over with a baby wipe and then dry off with a piece of kitchen towel.
We've done all sorts so far, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, chicken breasts, bananas - they're delicious. I would highly recommend them, and we are a health concious family so even better to see the fat dripping out into the fat collecting tray, it's very satisfying in a sad sort of way!!!

champs · 12/12/2004 20:09

mrsjingles, thought i was the only one to use baby wipes to clean george!!Grin I have the baby george (pink of courseWink) It's brill.

Fruifull.. I haven't used it for fish fingers before. should work fine tho. how about one of them grill oven type things?

Hulababy · 12/12/2004 20:17

I have one too and use it a couple of times a week at least, mainly for fish and veggies. A tuna steak takes less than 2 minutes to cook!

For cleaning I just wipe ours with kitchen roll whilst still warm. Doesn't take too much to clean when I do it that way.

eidsvold · 13/12/2004 11:31

had on and it was brilliant - want to buy one over here. Used it all the time and so easy to clean just paper towels whilst it is still warm and throw the fat tray in the dishwasher or wash it in the sink.
