Best sausages?

Is there such a thing as a really good quality meat sausage?

Having looked at the labels most of them seem to have less than 50 per cent meat.

Anyone got a top sausage?!

Farmers Fayre people have a website too - here

The ones from the farm shop near my PILs - they are called "sussex herby" and they are fab!

Failing that the duchy originals, or Waitrose lincolnshire are my faves.

Thanks all...
Do your kids like the sausages? (I'm veggie!!) Some of them sound a bit spicy.

Sains TTD chipolatas (and Tesco finest) are quite child-friendly, unicorn - narrow and not too spicy.

Also, have just remembered the Lidl German ones - like mini bratwurst - they are over 90% meat, not what I would call spicy, and DS2 (a picky person) likes them a lot. They come in a handy divided plastic tub thing, you can use one half and freeze the other. (And being German may well have less of the dubious meat content!)

Waitrose own brand cumberland ones are great ! My kids love them.

JanH · 19/11/2004 13:36

Of course some of us don't have a Waitrose for hundreds of miles (I would swap Booths like a shot!)

Porkinson and duchy originals get my vote!

Marina · 19/11/2004 13:44

There may come a day when you have the choice, JanH!
Unicorn, yes they do. Dd especially enjoys gnawing the bejasus out of a whole Helen Browning. Not a pretty sight.

enid · 19/11/2004 13:47

janh - they only take 4 minutes to cook. I dont know what she does with them but it works.

For those who live near Polhill Garden Centre, the butchers there do some yummy sausages. Their lamb and mint ones are georgeous. Especially in toad in the hole. Ooh I'm getting hungry!
