Anyone used a "tangle teezer" brush thing? Great invention or waste of money?

I've been trying to buy a tangle teezer brush from the tangle teezer website, but am not having much luck.
I saw it on dragons' den and excitedly thought it would be the solution to the the hair brushing nightmares that go on in this house.
Then I got to thinking since the website was shite and no one has bothered getting back to me, despite three phone calls, that the product would be just as useless
If anyone has got one can you tell me whether I should bother persuing this?
Great invention or waste of money?

Sarah Vine was raving about them in the Times this week if that's any help. I use a wide paddle brush with metal spikey things with little plastic bobbles on the end that was about a fiver and works really well on dd's hair FWIW.

I mix up a splodge of conditioner in a spray bottle full of water. It's much more effective than the detanglers you buy in the shops. I use a round wooden brush with long and short bristles from superdrug. cost about £4 and it's fab for getting out tangles.

thanks
anyone else?

wide-tooth comb much better ime

ProjectIcarus · 31/12/2007 13:21

Wet or dry?

Wet - wide tooth comb. Dry - detangler with a wooden brush with short bristles and long metal ones with the knobbly bits. Plaits at night. Regular trims. Avoid collars if poss due to backcombing action when moving hair about. Start at the bottom at work up.

All learned from experience. My mum had the erm novel approach of ripping a really bristly brush through from the scalp down while shouting "keep your head up".

I prefer my way tbh .

MrsBadger · 31/12/2007 13:24

yyy to plaits at night

in day as well if you can

PeachesMcLean · 31/12/2007 13:30

You saw that idiot ripping seven shades out of that doll's hair and thought that would be a good think??

aquariusmum · 31/12/2007 13:38

I have looked too, in department stores and Boots but no luck. Might try John Lewis, as that article the Times also got me thinking

KITTYmaspudding · 31/12/2007 14:06

yes, he is rather fey. I spoke to him on the phone last week. Seems he's got as much business sense as a flea .
I can't be arsed now, I'll look for a decent brush and comb.

I also agree plaits day & night are the way to go!

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 31/12/2007 15:23

I use Avon's Detangler spray and lots of it when needed. Its usually on special offer.
hair then gets put up or plaited (french plaits take longer but can stay in for days if done tightly!)

HTH

CountessDracula · 31/12/2007 15:25

MOP (modern organic products) pear detangler is the best I have tried and believe me I have tried a few!

Qally · 01/01/2008 05:49

They're expensive, but the only brush that ever worked on my hair (kid or adult - very fine, masses of it, long and prone to dryness. Hell) is a Mason Pearson bristle & nylon. You can get one for about 20 quid on Ebay. It kills even dreadlocks relatively painlessly. Paddles with plastic tipped metal spikes always caused me agony.

KITTYmaspudding · 01/01/2008 08:08

yes, I have looked longingly at M&P brushes, but always thought them a real expense. Anyway I'm def not buying a tangle teezer now.

I'm so sorry you mums have had trouble.I work for Tangle Teezer and it really does work.

Shaun has had a nightmare with the website and
royal Mail failing to deliver.

Please give me a call on 07917 400070

or email me at [email protected]

My girl wakes up looking like Russell Brand and I've been a hairdresser for 25 years.

Nothing out there works like the Tangle Teezer.

The secret is in the teeth.
They collapse when they hit a knot, therefore gliding through without any pain.

Sorry again if you mums have had trouble.

All I know is my girl won't let me near her with anything else.

Also three major TonyandGuy salons are now retaiing this product as it outshines anything they have.

Kind regards

Sheena

kittywise · 03/01/2008 09:20

sheena, I'll call you but I must say, website and Royal mail aside I tried to get shaun to phone me three times and he never returned the calls . Hardly great if you're wanting to push your product

sheez · 03/01/2008 17:40

Hi Kittywise

all I can do is say really sorry once again.

I will speak to Shaun about your calls.
Did you leave a message on his answer phone?
I just need to know so I can ask him?

If there are any mums reading this,
Please don't call Shaun.

Give me a call or email please and I can deal with any problems.

Tangle Teezer is not available in the shops until April I'm afraid.

You can order via the website
www.tangleteezer.com

Kindest regards to all you mums

Sheena

hello everyone, thought i'd update on the tangle teezer. Sheena kindly sent me one and I must say that it is very good. It has made the dreaded hair brushing much easier AND it really makes their hair shiny and glossy! I'd def recommend them

mandajane · 21/01/2008 11:17

Hi, I got a tangle teezer for my daughter who is autistic and wears a helmet during the day to protect her head (she head bangs) which results in a mass of tangles all over her head. The tangle teezer is fantastic, it just works its way through the tangles and has made my daily fight to comb her hair into a pleasant experience!

I find it is quite good on dds top layer of hair but it doesnt get through to the bottom layer of hair (hers is very thick) so I have to brush it in layers.
Then I have to go over it with a wide paddle brush anyway.
so mixed feelings.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/03/2010 10:49

My SIL swears by these (she has 2 daughters with very fine hair which gets horrible knotted) - she got hers from Waitrose.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/03/2010 10:51

Oh, and dd when young had very long hair which used to get knotted into dreadlocks. I used to wash her hair, loads of conditioner, and comb through with an wide tooth comb, and then put it into pigtails whilst wet, and that is how she slept.

Took hair out and brushed it in the morning and then plaited hair again.

Very seldom let her wear her hair down in the day, and never to sleep.
