Where to get a cheap, Ok double mattress...no Ikea anywhere near us!

Ds1 has been ill this week, twice all over the bed and the 'waterproof' thing wasn't on, not that it is much use anyway.

it is a 1970s mattress that came with our rather nice antique bed, and I kept as it was cleanish and I was going to give birth on it anyway.

I have two kids in bed with me and don't see that changing rapidly, so there are going to be further incidents over the next few years no doubt - not really worth getting a fabbo mattress, and I have less than no money.

I am looking therefore for something acceptable and cheap but not nasty, if you see what I mean - backache wouldn't do anyone any good!

suggestions gratefully received x

This is like a long-term version of the leftovers you put back in the fridge for a week before throwing them away, isn't it? We do this too - have all sorts of stuff taking up space for months or even years and then realising that they're probably no good any more so we might as well have got rid at the time

NAB3littlemonkeys · 08/12/2007 16:34

Not really as we have the double bed and bedding too.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 16:39

I do that WW, terrible, so disappointing when you finally track down the spare part 5 years later only to find the actual item has long since disintegrated...or the lovely frock you were saving till you lost another stone, has housed a colony of moths for half its life!

Nab do be sure you don't want it for your bed before you let it go, won't you? It might be better than you think. I shan't mind

No, it is fine. Our bed is a king size so it would be too small. Just giving the kids their tea and will send him up to the loft.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 16:46

Ok

x posts, will go and measure it when I can put ds2 down.
If back seats are down it might be ok, is it very thick? I mean, could I bend it to go in?

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 17:26

scrap last post, my dad has a meriva and works in Maidstone. I'll ask him!

Can I get back to you later/tomorrow? I'll find a man/van if he can't do it but I think he will.
Thanks Nab and Mr. Nab xx

We are about 5-10 mins from Maidstone!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 17:34

I just rang, he is happy to do it, excellent!!! Are you ok to sort of put it somewhere till Monday? (I am guessing Monday, he didn't say for definite but says it can be easily done) I don't want you tripping over it or anything.
You're very kind.

btw Dad is an accountant too - KCC!

No chance sooner? Dh just shouted at DS2 for getting on it.

NAB3littlemonkeys · 08/12/2007 17:37

Just seen your email. If that is the earliest you can do, fine.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 17:44

Sorry Nab, I will ask him but they have a concert tonight and mum has been ill too. If we can do it tomorrow we will, otherwise it'll be Monday - don't stop them jumping on it, please - I am sure it will be wildly jumped on once it is here!! I don't want to be the cause of any Nab family disharmony!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 17:45

Funny how little boys love mattresses, isn;t it?
I had the same thing with the one I gave away, he would not leave it alone, cue much grumpiness on my part
However I waive all your responsibility to keep it clean or unjumped on until we take it away

NAB3littlemonkeys · 08/12/2007 17:47

Okay. Just let us know, thank you.
