dd1 has this elephant. v v v good, ears just right thickness for ritualistic rubbing. end of trunk also used for soothing activities.

dd2 has this rabbit, ear length and thickness good. type of fur v bad. all 3 look like shite now.

Another cute lamb, and I quite like the giraffe, though maybe not so good for bits to grab, so to speak.

Seona1973 · 28/11/2007 19:22

ds has 2 taggies he takes to bed - one that used to be his sisters and is pink and the other is a blue one we bought just for him.

That Cute Age has them and they had super quick delivery. There even seems to be a taggy bear now

southutsire · 29/11/2007 10:12

Look at this

Tis extremely soft, feels lovely, and stays soft after a zillion washes (machine washable).

Great long ears.

Comes in a posh box.

My gran bought it for ds and it's the only cuddly he's ever bothered about - goes to sleep sucking its ears/tail/feet. We now have 2.

GreebosWhiskers · 29/11/2007 10:14

blanket buddy - you'll have to scroll down a little

They're crocheted in super-soft chenille & are machine washable at 30 degrees.

MrsBadger · 29/11/2007 10:28

don't bother
taggie blanket

then even if they hate it and end up cuddling a grim old muslin/mum's nightie/bit of curtain etc instead the blanket is still useful

(don't laugh re the curtains, they were long velvet ones and they were rubbed bald. Ended up cutting them up and sewing a bit on the back of a normal teddy)

MrsBadger · 29/11/2007 10:28

sorry, that should have been 'but if you feel yuou must get a taggie blanket'

A tail essential here. Ds1 has much-loved zebra but can successfully substitute any tailed beast in an emergency. DS2 was given a taggie and is starting to get attached to it, I am thinking of substituting it for an animal before it's too late - do not want to pay that much for a bit of fleece if it goes missing and imo they are somehow not very cool.

Bodkin · 29/11/2007 11:00

Why is anyone buying a taggie? make one! It's not rocket science, and the real brand ones are pretty hideous imo.

On the soft toy front, I vote Jellycat all the way. Even I like a cuddle on my DD1s cat now and again, he is a most sympathetic little fellow.

Indith · 29/11/2007 11:06

We were given a taggie, ds isn't too fussed by it though he loves the labels on his doudou.

dressedupnowheretogotilxmas · 29/11/2007 11:12

my lo has a steiff lamb which my mum boght her it is a specific baby one so not too expensive i think it was thirty quid ???

cakes sound fab !!!!

beowulf · 29/11/2007 13:14

brora do a lovely cashmere blanket, which is lovely and soft for the baby and useful for wrapping them up warm in their car seats or pram. My 2yo DS1 is very attached to his and my 3mo DS2 is beautifully cosy in his when we go out. Brora also do a cute cashmere teddy if you don't want to splash out so much.

belgo · 29/11/2007 13:21

do you get 'noukies' in the UK?

they have lovely soft toys, and washable
here

silverfrog · 29/11/2007 13:27

can second belgo's idea of noukies - dd1 had (has) a tonton doudou (got 2, have been well washed and loved for 3+years - she still sleeps with them, have just had to buy another 2...)

they wash very well (have only had to buy another coule as dd is ASD and I cannot face the thought that she may have to go without at some point in the future...) and dd's look remarkably good given the beating loving they've had over the years.

dh has just got her the donkey form the range (paco?) and it's beautifully soft.

washable essential imo - moulin roty also do well for this (and theirs are also driable I believe)

SoMuchToBits · 29/11/2007 13:31

I think it must have a nice expression and be about the right size for cuddling (M & S medium Spencer bear is just right), and be washable. I have just bought the medium Spencer bear for my cousin's new baby, and ds has a similar sized bear (also M & S but 7 years old) and it is the one he cuddles every night and takes away with him.

FrostyGlassSlipper · 29/11/2007 16:11

Get something by a popular brand eg, Ty

This will mean when said child is 2 and thrown up all over it you have been able to find "cuddly 2" on the internet and have him as standby.

If you buy an obscure brand then you havent a cat in hell's chance of getting a substitute 2 years on.

My DD1 has Monkey 1 and Monkey 2

DD2 hasnt decided yet between Disney Roo and Mothercare Cat. I am hoping Roo as it will be easier to source

MadamePlatypus · 29/11/2007 20:00

I liked the Jellycat Buglie labrador

peachygirl · 29/11/2007 20:10

DD has a TY monkey here
I once read that in an experiment babies had better responses to toy monkeys than teddies as their faces resembled human ones.
He is very soft and when washed recently dried in about half an hour on the radiator.
DD has just started finding him and moving him around with her
She also has a jellycat rabbit a bit like this one but cream but Monkey is favoured at the moment.

It will need a good name. How about Mohammed?

Washersaurus · 29/11/2007 20:39

FREE Taggie ball and blankie pattern here

Washersaurus · 29/11/2007 20:39

My vote is also with the Jellycat toys

Well if I were her (ie your friend, just given birth etc) I would pounce on the cookies and totally fail to notice the cuddly, so I think you've got your priorities right there, cod.
