Mums of boys - tights appeal

OK, ive had it up to here and beyond with replacing ds's socks. But am a slave to sex-stereotyped clothing. Has anyone found tights ('leggings', 'long-johns') in 'boy's' colours?

I know I should just put him in pink ones, or at least white ones, but can't bring myself to. would prefer stripy ones with not much pink, or red or green. Or blue i suppose.

I thought all blokes who worked on markets wore tights. Someone told me this once - admittedly about 25 years ago - and I've just gone on believing it.

My DS wore tights under his trousers when he was a baby. I just got navy, black, red ones that seemed to be easily available. Much better than socks in winter. They just looked like socks.

DS wore red tights when he was a baby in the winter on really cold days, under his trousers.

codswallop · 22/11/2004 20:37

misdee · 22/11/2004 20:42

the it??!! wtf. freezing nipples here in the south..........

Soppy · 22/11/2004 20:46

But it's supposed to be going to be the coldest winter in 100 years or something

I was wondering if you could get footless babgros? Not keen on tights as DS (10 months) isn't walking yet and have been warned off him having anything on his feet by numerous doom-laden threads here. Will have him in socks but always whip them off when we're indoors (they're too slippery anyway)

Soppy · 22/11/2004 20:58

I've started a footless babygros appeal , in case any mums with girls have the answer and aren't looking at this thread

Footless babygros, and then what? Put socks on the end

Chandra · 23/11/2004 19:29

May I suggest Baby Gap socks? they really stay in place and last for ages.

Soppy · 23/11/2004 19:38

Yes Davros that way he's barefoot most of the time - footless indoors, socks outdoors. Can't do the barefoot thing in winter, sorry

Bozza · 23/11/2004 20:31

But do the socks stay on Soppy? Normally put DD in socks with her trousers but they never stay put. Went walking in the Lake District a couple of weeks ago with DD (6 months) in the sling. But since this really pulls her trouser legs up as well I put her in tights and trousers. If we go out for a walk with the push chair I normally just shove a blanket in the cosy toes and sometimes find half a dozen odd socks in the bottom of the cosy toes.

Soppy · 23/11/2004 20:44

Got some socks from Vertbaudet that stay on most of the time - they do stay on under the cosytoes but tend to slip off when you pull him out of it - I know what you mean

TwoIfBySea · 23/11/2004 21:34

I vote with Chandra on this one. I get Gap Baby socks for ds twins (nearly 3 but fit the 4-5 age ones so check sizes.) If you have an outlet store near you I get 4 for about £5.

They reach ds twins knees if not folded down and are quite cosy looking, also if they are running around the house in them the sticky lettering on the sole helps stop skids!

Davros · 24/11/2004 21:42

Ah soppy I see. Don't usually put DD's tights or socks on until we're going out and usually take them off when we get home in the process of nappy changing. Do use GAP socks though.
