Looking for single duvet cover for DS, NOT...

... characters, 100% cotton. He's 4, but want something that will last pattern-wise (so not too babyish). I love this Aspace design, but they don't do it as a duvet cover, and aside from the astronomical price, have already bought the duvet so don't need a quilt as well. Most of the John Lewis ones are 50% polyester or a bit babyish. Any suggestions please ladies? Thanks!

Thanks - had forgotten White Company - quite like them, but think the nicest pattern is the star one that again, is only a quilt...

Does anybody use quilts? Are thy supposed to be instead of a duvet and do you need sheets and blankets too?

Oh get him a Spiderman one, he will remember that you did for the rest of his life.

katierocket · 24/10/2007 10:49

Habitat usually do some good stuff, bright colours and 100% cotton.

Like the Habitat one but a bit dark. Need to see it in the flesh. Any other brilliant ideas?

IKEA - had same trouble with my DS - don't want to have Bob the builder or postman pat on his bed! But Ikea do lots of nice bright single duvets and they are not extortionate! Who on earth would pay 45 squid for a kids single duvet cover? Madness!

katierocket · 24/10/2007 12:39

With John Lewis I found that the children's duvet covers had lovely designs but weren't 100% cotton.

indiasmum · 24/10/2007 12:41

Habitat do lovely kids ones. they are priceyish - about £50 for a cover and pillowcase but they last for yrs and are fab. ds1 had his 1st one age 2 and its still suitable now. i have just bought him a new one with appliqued patch pockets all over it. v cool.

indiasmum · 24/10/2007 12:42

smiling- obv i am mad! . but ime its worth it- the ikea ones we have bought in the past just havent cut the mustard in comparison!

AllBuggiedOut · 24/10/2007 13:12

Thanks - some good ideas here. I can only find one on the Habitat site. Do you know what yours is called indiasmum?

The trains one on Laura Ashley here I think its really nice, but will he still like it in a couple of years or is it a bit babyish? (Have no idea what 6 year old boys like, except Spiderman...)

Are La Redoute any good? My only experience of them is a couple of years back when they too an order from me then spend the next 6 months sending me crappy free gifts but not my goods. Haven't been back!

I think they only ever have a small selection on the habitat site as compared to what is instore. I certainly didn't pay more than £30 for the one I got for DS1.

indiasmum · 24/10/2007 13:48

ah yes thats the one i got for ds1. its lovely actually. they do have other nice ones too.

Piggy · 24/10/2007 13:49

White company have gorgeous gingham kiddy sets.

indiasmum · 24/10/2007 13:50

btw that train one is really nice but dont think he would like it in a yr or so. i think its a bit babyish but then it depends what he/you like. my 4yr old would prob quite like it but not for long. also, its WHITE!!!!! imagine the stains!

singyswife · 24/10/2007 13:53

Hi, I was in Tesco earlier and they had some lovely print ones reduced to &3.00. Just plain prints. Dont know if the offer will be online might be worth a look.

AllBuggiedOut · 24/10/2007 19:26

Bumping in case anybody this evening has other ideas, thanks!

and

www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk/ProductList.aspx?CategoryID=r-beds&language=en-GB&page=2here

heifer · 24/10/2007 19:38

sorry about links

blooming marlveous

gltc

Rosebys

pagwatch · 24/10/2007 19:41

Agree White company, Laura Ashley and habitat.
But re the quilt idea....i bought DD a beautiful quilt for her bed and just have plain white bedding. Turn down the quilt at night but throw the whole thing to cover the whole bed during the day.
In fact you can have any old crap underneath and no one ever know

bran · 24/10/2007 19:45

Feather and Black I bought the Noah's Ark set for ds and it's lovely, nice crispy cotton too. I'm just wondering whether Jasper might be good in ds's room too.
