Dd2 has shown a real interest in cars recently and so I've been looking at all the garages/tracks and car sets in town today - some seem really babyish and some seem too complicated. Any ideas for something that will last her a while, not be too ginormous and not cost too much (£30-40 tops but pref cheaper!). Ta

ELC does one for £50 with loads of free cars, but using MandB code at checkout you will only pay £40. its lovely and really big.

oo thanks. Looks a tad big though (her rom is quite little. What's the code I'd use? I could buy the smaller garage for younger bods then!

I bought DD this one when she was 2.

www.elc.co.uk/toy-41530, was ideal for her at that age, and older, but not sure it would be any good after 4 / 5. depends on what you want I guess.

Also ELC discount codes around on websites etc.

try the fisher price little people range. my 20 month old ds thinks this is great and you can pick them up for fantastic prices on ebay!

accessorizewithbabysick · 18/10/2007 22:38

I think the smaller elc one is fab, I have a fisher price one and it's really too big although quite good with lots of sounds. The cars that come with the elc garage are good just on their own as I have 2 other sets of them. Still being used by ds1 who is nearly 4.

argos or woolies do a great wooden one and great price - £29.99 look fairly robust so wld prob be ok for your little one

nappyaddict · 21/11/2007 23:24

elc used to do a good one called wooden world city garage and it was compatible with elc wooden track and brio.

not sure if you can still get them instore but there's loads on ebay.

gigglewitch · 21/11/2007 23:35

we got the fisher price one second-hand from charity shop, all three of mine have played endlessly with it - thus can promise you it's defo made of good stuff!

nappyaddict · 22/11/2007 00:12

have you seen the garage town on gltc? its £50 but you get a lot more than just a garage for your money.

lljkk · 22/11/2007 05:49

This one is great for my 3yo, £40, but sadly out of stock (might be worth a phone call to your nearest actual ELC shop).

seeker · 22/11/2007 07:07

I would always go for Hot Wheels. The cars are better and faster than any of the others, you can buy track seperately. My ds is nearly 7 and has tons of track and plays with it a lot. Don't go for the big "novelty" sets - they are fun for a while but don't jold thier interest like the track you can build yourself. If you can find the fire station that's really good. Woolworths often has special offers

NaeDanger · 22/11/2007 07:22

my Ds has the fisher price little people racing ramps garage which is basically good but DS has trouble with the lift sticking and he gets very frustrated with it (he's 2 btw)
good points though: the ramps goes all the way tot he bottom (so he watch the cars go round and round)
the garage itslef doesn't make any noise (although one of the cars does...we removed the batteries)

nappyaddict · 22/11/2007 08:17

i think hot wheels would be a bit old for a 2 year old perhaps.

amazonianwoman · 22/11/2007 10:17

Have a look here for ELC discount codes

amazonianwoman · 22/11/2007 10:21

Accessorize (waves!) - is it the whizz around garage from elc you say is fab? Was thinking of getting it for DS for Xmas, with the added bonus of £12.50 off

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/11/2007 19:22

Well, I don't have that one, but I think it's fab & a friend who does have it says it's wonderful. I have 2 sets of the cars that magnetize together & they are the bees knees! Buy it, it's a nice compact size too!

NAB3littlemonkeys · 22/11/2007 19:24

We have the one that Scorpio linked too and it came with a £20 box of cars for free. It is okay, I think my son is a bit young for the role playing of garages more than it isn't great.

chocolateshoes · 22/11/2007 19:35

my DS (2) loves his ELC whizz around garage. Its brilliant!

amazonianwoman · 23/11/2007 08:51

Bought the whizz around garage last night

Reminder to self

accessorizewithbabysick · 23/11/2007 20:47

You didn't go with lo's did you??

Toothyboy · 23/11/2007 20:52

I've bought this one for ds2

amazonianwoman · 24/11/2007 15:38

AQ - good lord no! Don't even take DH never mind LOs. He starts hyperventilating the minute he sets foot in the Traff centre

accessorizewithbabysick · 24/11/2007 19:48

AW, well that's alright then, only standard stress (have never been to Traff Centre, sadly)...I'm trying to do it all online, I say that every year...

aaaargh · 25/11/2007 20:57

a question for someone who own the whizz around centre:
can normal dinky cars go down the ramp? DS obsessed by them and would be very dissapointed if he couldnt use them on the ramp!
