OK, DD's polly pocket stuff is on the list. Have emaile Mattel. Do we actually get refunds, do we post them back, take back to argos??

LIZS · 15/08/2007 10:00

Noone knows SKSS, frustrating isn't it ? Ours were presents so won't know where they came from.

ProfYaffle · 15/08/2007 10:44

This is driving me mad. Why can't the website just tell you what to do with the stuff and what the replacement/refund policy is? We have the pooping dog and all I want is a replacement scoop. Am tempted to just send it back to Mattell direct as I can't get through to the 'helpline'.

LIZS · 15/08/2007 11:18

Limo matches the number shown but checked Snow Cool hotel and the only magnet I can find is enclosed under the "skate" and beneath the ice rink. Looking at our numerous clothes many have a small magnet fixed with just glue not aware we've got any of the other sets listed though.

SlightlyMadSpider · 15/08/2007 11:58

LIZS - about affected sets being on Sale - I have just looked at the press release and it says that only those manufactured (or maybe sold) up to 31 Jan 2007 are affected as they modified design. Maybe the stuff still being sold is new stock? Maybe the websites have not had a chance to respond - but I doubt anything would actually be sent out to you if it was affected.

contentiouscat · 15/08/2007 12:06

Its amazing isnt it someone complains about Saga on here...on their PR rep comes to deal with it. GLTC come on to deal with their complaints

CC taps fingers on desk Mattel....Mattel....are out out there?

I have e-mailed their corporate communications dept in the US and told them if they want to reach max parents & win brownie points they should be coming here as the UK company are making a pigs ear of it. Well not exactly those words LOL

SlightlyMadSpider · 15/08/2007 12:16

The thing is - teh US site is quite helpful.

There is a full colour brochure of all affected products - with descriptions, photographs and examples of those which are and aren't affected. It includes a form to print off and send direct to Mattel for a refund (don't know whether full or partial). They will even send you a SAE if you ask.

The UK site has an email adress and phone number. Which are so bogged down no-one can get a reply.

bagpuss · 15/08/2007 12:23

I have just heard from them . The e-mail said I needed to provide my telephone number and someone would call to arrange return of the products and replacement.

SlightlyMadSpider · 15/08/2007 12:24

So they are going to replace rather than refund?

So they are going to ring the 9.5million people in this country that own one of these products ?

I think I will wait a few days until they have improved there contingency plans...

ProfYaffle · 15/08/2007 12:26

Oh they're answering quite quickly then? Fab, I've just e-mailed them.

Mercy · 15/08/2007 12:26

I don't want a replacement either.

bagpuss · 15/08/2007 12:35

Apologies, have just re-read and it actually says "alternative product" rather than replacement.

SlightlyMadSpider · 15/08/2007 12:38

I suspect you will get a voucher then so you can spend it on other Mattel products.

LIZS · 15/08/2007 12:40

no email here yet. Have just contacted Consumers Direct to complain about poor info here.

Hulababy · 15/08/2007 14:05

No email here yet. Might re-email with my contact details then. Happy for an alternative product. Limoscene is not that great - fiddly to get the clothes on and back falls off.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/08/2007 14:53

Grrrrrrr what sort of stuff do Mattel make as I reckon dd has kind of outgrown Polly Pocket and she hates Barbie.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/08/2007 14:57

Surely we'd be in our legal right to demand a refund. Doesn't the sale of goods act state that if a product is not fit for purpose (ie; dangerous) then you are entitled to a refund NOT a voucher or replacement.

HorseyWoman · 15/08/2007 15:19

They make LOADS. Mattel owns fisherprice, so you can pretty much guarantee your child will come into contact/ownership of some of their products, whatever their age. Not all products are affected, and not all batches of affected products are to be recalled, either.

LIZS · 15/08/2007 15:23

SKSS it is a voluntary, precautionary recall so not sure how it stands legally . usually that is in anticipation of an enforced one.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/08/2007 15:24

Well apart from a £60 digital camers, all the Fisher Price stuff on the Toys R Us website are baby or toddler toys.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/08/2007 15:25

Oh bum. Well I guess I can use vouchers to buy my baby nephews something.

Troutpout · 15/08/2007 15:30

We just took ours back to Toys r us for credit note and new toys.We had a few tears this morning...but not half as bad as i was expecting.
We took back Barbie and Tanner (dd chose the pissing cat instead) and the pp limo scene and the beading factory thingamagic. She chose 2 other pp sets in exchange for those.

Troutpout · 15/08/2007 15:31

stripy...if you take it back to toys r us..you can spend the credit note on anything

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/08/2007 15:37

Oh thats great Trout. Didn't realise you could take it back to Toys R Us. Now they're not going to check that I have every damm little bit that game with the playset are they. I'm hoping the main house, a doll, aand a few playsets will suffice. I'm sure some bits have been lost......maybe swallowed

LIZS · 15/08/2007 15:38

Sorry it makes me . Why should the consumer have to spend time and money going through the hassle to return these things when a multi million pound corporation has failed in their quality control checks. In US they will send out SAE's etc what compensation for petrol, parking, postage have they offered here yet ?

SKSS fwiw I think you're right to want a refund - I got money back from Tesco the other week for a potentially faulty kettle, no issue.
