....without needing constant attention and mollycoddling?

Yep, you need a Miele

Trinityrhino · 11/08/2007 20:09

dyson
deffo
I was seriously pissed off with it after a year but then I realised that you need to clean filter every 6 months ...now it's amazing

panasonic bagless about 60 quid, been threw the wars and still sucks the carpet off the floor

nooka · 11/08/2007 20:26

I have a Henry. We have had it for about 11 years, it's never had a problem (apart from picking up a nasty smell for a couple of weeks), and still sucking away happily now. Oh, and it has a smiley face

Whooosh · 11/08/2007 20:27

SEBO............SEBO.............SEBO!!!!!!!!!

Spidermama · 11/08/2007 20:28

Another vote for Henry here. Light, simple and it sucks like there's no tomorrow.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/08/2007 20:30

Maytag.

XcupcakemummyX · 11/08/2007 20:39

henry and you can get it in pink called hetty

StarryStarryNight · 11/08/2007 20:51

I have had my Miele for 3 years now. Still going strong. Very strong indeed. Strongest vacuum cleaner I have had. Pricey, but worth it.

Prior to Miele I bought a new cheapy vacuum cleaner twice a year.

MIELE ROCKS!

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/08/2007 21:12

Have had my Maytag for 6 years btw.

tortoise · 11/08/2007 21:14

Had my Dyson 3 years now and still going strong.

MintChocChippyMinton · 11/08/2007 21:15

My dyson is going strong after several years but i must confess it doesn't get used on a daily basis

CarGirl · 11/08/2007 21:17

I have had a miele for 7.5 years and it's still going strong

peanutbear · 11/08/2007 21:18

my dyson blew up!!! but i didnt change the filter now i have a bisell also rubbish will be googling a meile now to find out what they are !!!!

whomovedmychocolate · 11/08/2007 21:19

I am in love with my Dyson, but you do have to remember to wash the filters and the pipes every few months and not use it to suck up plasterdust (killed first one), or catfood (made number two smelly and useless).

Am quite enticed by the idea of a Hetty though

Apparently upright Dysons aren't as good as the sit down ones (I have the top of the range one because we have smelly hairy cats and it's really the dogs biscuits).

Piffle · 11/08/2007 21:20

we traded in out shite old cumbersome dyson for a fab miele revolution about a yr ago
it kicks ass

CarGirl · 11/08/2007 21:21

I recommended a miele to MIL to clear up after her numerous house cats, she previously had a dyson, she is much happier witht the miele and it's much lighter to carry etc.

doglover · 11/08/2007 22:19

Can thoroughly reccomend Sebo.

I've had my Sebo for about 15 years - admittedly it doesn't get overused, but it's never gone wrong [touch wood icon] and is good with pet hair.

TooTicky · 11/08/2007 23:21

Wow! Thanks everybody. I will do some research. Dirt Devils are shit btw and the Electrolux we have atm needs almost as much attention as the dcs and has none of their charm.

My mum has had her Henry for over 20 years and it's still going strong.
I have a Miele...and i love it...it has really strong suction...not too big and cumbersome either.
Had a dyson before and i thought it was crap
