Car suitable for a small women?

I'm getting on a bit and am looking for a car that fits my petite 5 ft frame. Not a man's car with the seat dragged forward till my chest is entangled with the steering wheel and pumped up so I can't get out of the door (Nissan Qashqai) I would like to see out of the windows clearly front, side and back, have the seat the right depth for my thighs without a cushion to push me forward. Just a neat, comfy little vehicle to take me to the shops. Is there such a thing? I have looked everywhere. In some cases I just disappear completely and have absolutely no chance of reaching the pedals. I once tried an Audi out of interest and had to be pulled out by the salesman as I got lost somewhere down the bottom of its deep dark well. At the moment I have a big automatic Volvo estate becuse of work but although I can adjust it to allow me to drive it isn't comfortable and I don't feel in charge of the great lumbering thing. Anyone any ideas? I live in rural England

Vauxhall Corsa?

ooooohbetty · 28/08/2019 17:59

Fiat 500.

Mrsducky88 · 28/08/2019 18:02

Kia Rio is fab. I’m 5.3 and currently drive a Kia Ceed SW (estate) and find it really comfy, good visibility etc.

MadeinBelfast · 28/08/2019 18:12

I've driven a Ford Fiesta, Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris and VW polo and they've all been pretty good.

divafever99 · 28/08/2019 18:12

I understand op! I am 4 foot 11, and actually had to stop driving when I was heavily pregnant, because I have my seat so far forward to reach the pedals and the bump wouldn't fit behind the steering wheel! I've owned several cars but the only 2 I have really found myself comfortable in (and didn't need a cushion on the seat) is the fiat panda and Citroen c1. My current car is the c1 and this is my favourite!

My mum has a Toyota Aygo and loves it. I think the proportions should work well for you. Solidly built, easy and nice to drive

candycane222 · 28/08/2019 18:19

I have a Skoda Citigo - I'm 5'2 and my daughter, who is only 4'10, also happily drives it (with a cushion).

Very light and easy to drive, adjustable seat and excellent visibility forward and back, very happy with it.

BobTheFishermansWife · 28/08/2019 18:19

Hi op, I totally get your struggle!! I'm 5 foot 1 and have driven a ford fiesta and focus, Renault clio, mini, fiat 500, Toyota aygo and iq and currently have a Mercedes A class. Of those I would suggest the ford's, Toyota and the clio as all 5 of those gave me the perfect seat positioning for me to see all around.
The merc is good, but I have to completely adjust the seat after my oh has driven it 😂

elephantoverthehill · 28/08/2019 18:27

I've got a Mercedes A class too. It's an automatic which seems to help.I'm 5'3" I had to drive a MG a long time ago and had to peer through the steering wheel, colleagues thought it was a driverless car.

Bloodycats · 28/08/2019 18:29

I’ve had a polo and a golf and love them. They’re fun to drive and very practical.

thunderthighsohwoe · 28/08/2019 18:29

I’m 5’1’’ and drive a Juke comfortably. Best, most comfortable car I’ve ever owned (previously had a Lupo, Polo, Astra, Peugeot 207 and Corsa).

Pinkywoo · 28/08/2019 18:33

I'm 5'2 and learning in an audi a1 and it's nice and dinky, I can reach everything and no cushions required!

scotwood · 28/08/2019 18:34

Citroen berlingo. The postion makes your legs more angled then stretched and really makes a difference. I drive a 500 sometimes and my stomach has is an inch away from the steering wheel (often making contact if I move when turning) and I'm 5'2.

Troels · 28/08/2019 18:34

I'm 4'11" and have a fiat panda fits me perfectly.
It's the same base as a Fiat 500 so that fits me too. my 5' friend just bought one.

Troels · 28/08/2019 18:35

I used to have a toyota corolla, that fit me well too.

SudowoodoVoodoo · 28/08/2019 18:46

5'2" and I have a Zafira and previously an Astra. Was fine learning in a Corsa too, so Vauxhall seem to work well for me.

DH is on his second German car and I struggle with them because of the accelerator being pivoted from the floor being incompatible with my tiny feet (size 2), muscular calves and tight angle from short legs. Some brands like Seat and Peugot, I can't even stand sitting in the seat in the showroom.

I love the fact that I have found a proper, big car that works because it won't be long before the cute kids mutate into leggy teenagers plus all their scout stuff etc. I still joke that it's my small girly car because it is a little smaller than DH's

I did have to stop driving in the last month of pregnancy because of the big bump/ short legs combo.

TheFlis12345 · 28/08/2019 18:47

My Dad has a Ford Focus and the driving position in that was very high up.

Missingstreetlife · 28/08/2019 18:54

Nissan micra, everybody loves it. If that's too cheap and cheerful Yaris or polo. I think there is a small Mercedes too

Tidypidy · 28/08/2019 19:03

I'm 5'3 and loved my golf. Now drive a caravelle which is also fantastic to drive as I sit more upright than in a traditional car and have amazing visibility. I appreciate a caravelle might be bigger than you want though!

Heratnumber7 · 28/08/2019 19:34

I'm 5' 2" and can drive most cars. Currently driving an old Ford Focus.

Humsecker · 29/08/2019 17:58

This all looks so useful! Thank you for all the answers. It's hopeless Googling the question - all full of blokes admiring the wheel trim and talking about 0 to 60. Oh for some women designers, I have so many good ideas. Just the same with houses dontcha think? - er, what about some hanging space, airing cupboard, a place for muddy boots?

...and no-one should be allowed to market a loo seat design until they have cleaned someone else's - err, backwash off it Grin

homemadecommunistrussia · 29/08/2019 20:11

I am glad to see such sensible replies, so often people say that any car can be adjusted.Hmm
Personally I loved my punto.

MrsCasares · 22/09/2019 16:13

4ft 11ins and I love my fiat 500. BMW X1 automatic is good too.

MonstranceClock · 22/09/2019 16:15

My sister is 5ft and has a range rover and a ford ranger! I don't think it really matters how big the car is.
