Bit of olive oil? Aveeno?

LadyK · 01/08/2007 14:10

Try olive oil. Also really great for nappy rash! Also, there is a Burts's Bees product that a friend of mine swears by. I think it is Apricot Oil, or something like that. Personally, I love olive oil because it is cheap and esay to find!

vinhotinto · 01/08/2007 14:12

I used Grape Seed Oil, that helped a bit but dryness then cleared up on its own.

SeamonstEr · 01/08/2007 14:12

i used zinc and castor oil cream on dd, having discovered it worked completely by accident. I was basically using it on her bum and noticed that there and a bit of her belly was fine so spread it down her legs and hey presto!

flowerybeanbag · 01/08/2007 14:14

we put a bit of grapeseed oil in his bath, cleared up quickly

NotADragonOfSoup · 01/08/2007 14:14

Kamillosan is good.

meemar · 01/08/2007 14:15

Another vote for olive oil - really works

sazzybee · 01/08/2007 14:19

I am now using a combo of things on my 4 month old which seem to be working -

Earth friendly baby red clover and zinc cream (from John Lewis) - clears up redness overnight

Oilatum and porridge oats in the bath

Thick slathering of aqueous cream after the bath/before bed every night.

I have tried olive oil but found that it didn't absorb very well unless his skin was damp and water really exacerbates the situation (plus he hates baths)

Sheherazadethegoat · 01/08/2007 14:20

almond oil is lovely - it is lighter than olive oil.

barina · 01/08/2007 14:27

Olive Oil here too.

bumbly · 01/08/2007 15:47

where do you buy almond oil?

lailasmum · 01/08/2007 15:59

Shea Butter-Its lovely. if you can get a whipped one then do but any shea butter will do. Its traditionally used for babies. The ones with beeswax in have to be melted between your hands the whipped ones are more like baby lotion.

meemar · 01/08/2007 19:08

just a note about almond oil - I was using this for DS2 and HV suggested not to because of potential for nut allergy.

Don't know how much truth is in this but I switched to olive oil after she mentioned it because I didn't know any better.

TheArmadillo · 01/08/2007 19:10

I used olive oil.

You can put a couple of drops in bath or straight on skin.

Worked beautifully on ds skin.

MintyDixCharrington · 01/08/2007 19:12

olive oil.
not almond oil, and DEFINITELY not zinc and caster, as that has peanut oil in it and should be bloody banned.

oneplusone · 01/08/2007 19:12

Olive oil, but don't worry about the dry skin, I was told that if the baby was overdue for some reason they have this dry skin but it clears up fine on it's own.

SpacePuppy · 01/08/2007 19:13

My ds was 10 days overdue, he shed his skin entirely and had cracks everywhere, no amount of gentle olive oil or almond oil helped, I got a script for diprobase at the end that did the trick, also use and emollient like Oilatum (fragrance free for infants) in bath water.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 01/08/2007 19:14

I used Tiny amounts of Olive oil on my son, worked wonders!

mellow2 · 02/08/2007 09:24

I use the Suki Butter Cream Salve on my baby. It's all natural and have organic ingredients.

I originally bought it for myself but it works really well on dd too.

clutteredup · 02/08/2007 09:31

Don't bath in Jonsons baby bath, my dc all got dry skin from it, i guess if they have sensitive skin it can dry it out, i found olive oil was the best.

MrsSnoek · 02/08/2007 09:32

Diprobase also did work very well on my dd.

Smells horrid but nothing else would work.

We all use it ocassionally as it does the job very well!

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 02/08/2007 09:37

We olive oil our DS every night for a few weeks as he was born with terribly dry cracked skin.

Leati · 02/08/2007 09:39

Eucerin cream is non scented. It was recommended to be by my sons peditrician. I would definitely recommend it to you.

sazzybee · 02/08/2007 09:39

btw Earth friendly baby zinc cream doesn't contain peanut oil.

What's wrong with peanut oil anyway if your DC doesn't have a nut allergy? Or is that a really stupid question?

Leati · 02/08/2007 09:40
