My Sangenic Nappy Bin. No amount of pleasant smelling plastic wrapping could disguise the stink that emanated from it, despite emptying it every day.

Steriliser as I breastfed till she was over a year old...didnt quite mean too but it was so easy I couldnt stop!
Had to stop before she started shouting booby out loud when hungry though!

whizzz · 17/09/2004 19:08

Yup - immediately thought of that even before I opened the thread !! Also had one of those V Tech walker things that hardly ever got used.

Kayleigh · 17/09/2004 19:08

god, there were loads.
the first that springs to mind is the seat you stick in the bath that they sit in. What a waste of time and money that was. Used it twice and ds1 screamed the place down. Never even bothered for ds2.

deegward · 17/09/2004 19:08

Top and tail bowl, never quite got the hang of what I was meant to do with it. I know not a big item, but still even with ds2 didn't use it.

ladywallopofcod · 17/09/2004 19:10

never vought a baby bath, changing table or a nappy holder or any of htat stuff
always change them ont he floor.

pixiefish · 17/09/2004 19:11

I loved my nappy bin- until this week when I also have noticed a whiff... I wasted loads of money before dd was born. dh justifies it by saying that at least we enjoyed spending it. here are some:
White baby clothes- as soon as she was born I wanted PINK...
Steriliser- just in case I couldn't bf... sold on ebay for £8 unused...
ditto bottles...
Box for toiletries... still unused
Playnest and babygym... unused.
Moses basket and bedding... used twice- the little horror hated it...

Hulababy · 17/09/2004 19:11
  1. Travel cot. Complete waste of money. Used a couple of times by friend's DS when they stayed a bit late in the evnings. DD slept in it about 2 or 3 times too. But as she co-slept with us anyway most of the tie, it was pointless.
  1. Door bouncer. Again hardly used, as DD was pretty mobile on er feet early anyway, and much preferred to be walking around holding someone's hand or a push along thing.
hmb · 17/09/2004 19:11

The baby changing bag. I quicly switched to bunging a travel pach of wipes, nappy and plastic bag in my normal bag.

foxinsocks · 17/09/2004 19:11

-sangenic nappy bin
-any decent (i.e. expensive) clothes before they were 1 (especially as all mine did was puke!)
-expensive, heavy M&P buggy which I ditched fairly quickly and got a MacLaren lightweight for half the price which was FAR better

(whizz, that V-tech walker was the most used toy in our house when they were learning how to walk!)

ladywallopofcod · 17/09/2004 19:11

I found certaint hings I didnt use for certain babies - like the door bouncer
ds1 loved it ( and manages to walk still!!) but no, ds2 hated it

Lowryn · 17/09/2004 19:16

Same as her most coddyness the LadyWallop...DS seems to like all the things that I bought DD which never got used.
The only stuff that never gets used is that horrible liquid talc stuff...Anyone want some?

cab · 17/09/2004 19:19

Chico high chair - about £100 and wasn't much use until 2.5 years. Bought a £25 ToysRUs one instead.

hana · 17/09/2004 19:21

scratch mitts
travel cot ( but hoping that #2 will like it!)
cot (coslept until she was in her own bed)

jane313 · 17/09/2004 19:25

My door bouncer was great. He used it from 3 months and spent a good 40 minutes a day in it giggling with delight.

The only thing I regret was a cosytoes for the pushchair as I also got given a snow suits and I didn't need both.

Chandra · 17/09/2004 19:27

It has to be baby soap, talcum and shampoo, they dry the skin badly. I will stick to just water for the next one.

Most of the bedding was made redundant once I got a grobag.

Loved the Sangenic bin, I noticed that if I wipe the inside of it with those disinfectant towels every time I empty it it didn't smell.

Another thing was an ergonomic baby bath for tiny babies which he quicly outgrew and the sling which DS hated deeply

princesspeahead · 17/09/2004 19:28

agree re door bouncer, sangenic, and top and tail bowl.

completely disagree re babygym, playnest and vtech walker - massively used in this house!

will add one of those bottle bags (that keep bottles warm) as my useless accessory. Massively bulky and a waste of time....

maretta · 17/09/2004 19:40

Definitely blankets.
DS was born summer 2003 when it was so hot that he spent the first few weeks sleeping in his vest and since then has been in a grow bag.

Hpwever, he totally loved his door bouncer though. He bounced, I mumsnetted - both happy.

maretta · 17/09/2004 19:42

How come splleing msitakes are insivible until aftr you post?

jampot · 17/09/2004 19:43

travel cot and top & tail bowl.

skerriesmum · 17/09/2004 19:45

A quite expensive changing bag from Mothercare that I got with vouchers... it was over the shoulder style and much too big. I ended up using my regular backpack, much easier!

Angeliz · 17/09/2004 19:47

crib.

DD was in her moses basket which was placed in cot next to my bed.
THEN my sister bought a crib and i HAD to have one. I went into town and got one and brought it home on the roof of my mini
(Have sensible Ford focus now!!!)

She was in for a few weeks then in cot.
Total waste of money but cute!!

Flik · 17/09/2004 19:48

Pram bag, made the mistake twice. Both fell apart and just got in the way. Now have a carrier bag with spare nappy and wipes always in the bottom of the pram.

Hulababy · 17/09/2004 19:53

Noticed a few people oputting pram/changing bags. I love mine and still use it now. DD is over 2, but it is so useful and versatile. Rarely used the changing mat bit though.

Flik · 17/09/2004 19:59

when going aout on a day trip, I found it easier to take a rucksack especially with having the 2 now as I can get more in. I probably just overloaded them!

Demented · 17/09/2004 20:01

Never did work out scratchmits (a friend donated about a dozen pairs, they all fell off and/or made DS1 scream, didn't bother trying with DS2), the top and tail bowl (??? what's that all about) and muslins (neither DS would ever be sick on a specific piece of cloth, they always tended to go for maximum impact).

Sangenic bin, hmmmm, not so great for disposable nappies but came in very handy when we switched to cloth, I still use it for dry pailing and the bin doesn't smell the way it did when using it for disposables (having wicked thoughts along the lines that perhaps it's not the bin but the nappies that are in it ).
