My Sangenic Nappy Bin. No amount of pleasant smelling plastic wrapping could disguise the stink that emanated from it, despite emptying it every day.

yep, I agree with the toiletries. My babies had eczema and so couldn't use any of it.Loved my babybjorn and used it loads.Didn't use the gro bag much, babs preferred blankets and went bonkers when zipped into gro bag.I used scratch mitts all the time , especially the m&s ones that come in sizes that fit and don't come off all the time.Someone gave us a babywalker and the baby hated it.

marthamoo · 19/09/2004 00:18

My Baby Bjorn was a lifesaver with ds1 - used to live in the damn thing - I would cook, load washer, even go to the loo with him in it - anything for a bit of peace. Ds2 was never so keen on being in it...

I've just put it on ebay..no more babies for me

Another vote for the Sangenic nappy bin - what a bl**dy stink! Took mine to a charity shop and continued putting smelly nappies in the outside bin.

And my breast pump - what a waste of time and effort that was.

angrymum · 19/09/2004 00:20

oh got to say i love my sangenic. It saves trips to the outside bin and I always make dh empty it!!!

marthamoo · 19/09/2004 00:35

Funny, innit - my bf loves her Sangenic too (in fact, she persuaded me to buy mine). Ah well, each to their own, angrymum

Any jackets in sizes before he could walk, as he was always in a carrier or sling or pram with cosy toes and never needed them.

I like the Sangenic - but then my dh deals with it! Once this lot of plastic wrap is used up though it will be retired.

Cot blankets - once I'd discovered grobags!

Anything that I thought completely useless I just took back and said "this is completely useless". I got a refund for a breastpump (used), an Italian baby sling (used once, maybe I needed an Italian baby.) I even got a refund on some Johnson's shampoo because it dried his skin. I think that they were all too scared to argue with the new mum with the mad look in her eye. Seriously if you find stuff crap take it back as "unfit for the purpose sold".

BTW I love shape sorters, they are my ds's (18 months) favourite thing in the whole world, I even had to buy one on holiday. So it just goes to show they are all so different.

geogteach · 19/09/2004 19:21

Shape sorter is favorite here too, DD 15 months has been able to do it ages, i'm not sure DS ever really liked it, however she doesn't like it enough to justify the 4 we now own!
Have to agree newborn clothes were a waste of time, wht did nobody tell me newborn and 0-3 weren't the same thing?

mummytojames · 19/09/2004 19:22

mine would have to be the moses basket seeing as he slept for the total of ten minuites in it and would scream just going near it after that

sweetkitty · 19/09/2004 19:23

I've already got loads:

travel system - too bulky
crib and moses basket
bought far too many clothes and blankets/sheets

don't have a sanigenic - empty bin once a day and throw nappies away with cat litter

re: scratchmitts DD needed these so much after about 2 minutes her face would be all marked but none fitted her tiny little arms so I bought those haor bobble things from claries accessories (the soft ones) and kept the mitts on with them (felt so proud of myself.

californiagirl · 19/09/2004 19:31

My baby needs moisturizer! Although I don't usually use baby moisturizer I must admit. We also have baby shampoo and use it, but even though baby has lots of hair, it only takes a tiny bit and she's got terribly dry skin so we don't wash her much. She is 6 months and the bottle still looks untouched. I expect we'll run out due to horrible accident not to using it all up. Should have bought a trial size.

We love both our slings, and both our mei tais, which are strappy things, but we never tried a Wilkinet.

Chandra · 19/09/2004 19:54

A sheepskin, I got it because got so many recommendations but with eczema and asthma it was a no-no, my dogs love it though

finleysmum · 01/10/2004 19:04

Our most useless buy was DS's 0/15m car seat!.It came with his Chicco travel system but we didn't think to try it in our car first-and guess what-it didn't fit properly. He always seemed to be tipped up so his head lolled on his chest!.
As we had already used the pushchair and had it ages(purchased at 20 weeks) we couldn't return it so ended up buying a fixed seat and using the other just to attach to the buggy while he was small!.
Expensive!!!!!!!!!!
P.s.We also bought white clothes and didn't use them as we wanted him in BLUE!

lou33 · 01/10/2004 19:17

musical mobiles.

SecondhandRose · 01/10/2004 19:32

A changing unit with a bath under the lid. DS was like a big slippery eel and it was hell putting him in and out and then trying to hold him and put the lid down to get him changed. The bath had a drain at the bottom that you had to empty over the sink. It was 9 years ago but those memories never fade.

Baby hairbrush completely useless.

A bottle warmer that took ages to heat up in the middle of the night. It just went in the microwave in the end.

cellulitequeen · 01/10/2004 22:20

SCH, did you try removing the lid before you changed your DS? Only joking, we also have one of those daft contraptions and used it a couple of times only.

blueteddy · 01/10/2004 22:38

One of those nappy bin things.
They make the room smell horrible! You r far better off buying nappy bags tbh!

FattyComingOutOfTheCloset · 01/10/2004 22:40

The Whozzit toy... Mmmmh it worked wonderful when shared (had DS and frends DD chewing one leg each for a full afternoon, as soon as the other baby was removed, DS lost all interest on it).

EvesMama · 01/10/2004 22:53

nappy bins...eurghhhhhh dont be fooled, just take it outside to the bin!

mummylove · 01/10/2004 22:53

bottle warmer, bought an avent one, used one twice and in the end got peeved off waiting for it to heat etc so instead used a good old glass jug of boiling water which i found heated faster than the warmers.

baby carriers - uncomfortable, made my clothes ride up revealing my post preggers belly and hurt my back, tried a few out and gave up on them, next time think i'll get a sling as i only used the baby carrier when she was very small.

Donk · 01/10/2004 23:03

And there I would have put my wilkinet as a complete lifesaver - I loved it!
Scratch mits were a complete waste of time! SO were the teddies various friends and relatives gave us - DS has never shown the slightest interest.

GeorginaA · 01/10/2004 23:26

Didn't actually buy a bottle warmer, but if I did it would have been a waste of money . When I did switch to formula with ds1 he was perfectly happy having it cold out of the fridge. Why bother heating it - you don't need to and he never knew any different to care either way?!

Sangenic - terrible waste of money. Agree about the pong, even with thorough and regular cleaning.

Actually got a lot of use out of the moses basket and the baby bath, so disagree with those.

An awful lot of clothes (especially the more dressy ones) didn't get used enough because they were too fiddly/too impractical/fitted him in entirely the wrong season (not sure if they count though as most were bought by relatives not us).

Sangenic nappy bin, used for a few weeks, and left in the garage to get the stink out of the house.

Baby carrier, used once, looked like baby was being suffocated, maybe it's just my chest size, they hated it.

Talc, been sitting in the cupboard for about two years now.

Baby bath. Baby nest. Moses basket. Crib. Cotbed blankets. Scatchmitts. Dummies.
