Highchair idea please

NAB3 · 19/07/2007 14:15

My 2 year old can get out of his highchair even though it has shoulder and crotch straps. He isn't ready, or rather it is more we aren't ready, to have him sat on a proper chair so has anyone got any ideas please of a booster seat type thing? TIA.

Something like the Tchibo Tripp Trapp copy?

The handysitt is quite good but would still have the same issues in terms of straps because it only has a basic lap belt type harness. My dd did like using it though and never go out.

NeverTickleASleepingSoupDragon · 19/07/2007 14:18

It's not online any more but they had several in the Croydon store at the weekend.

NTASSD- I have never heard of the Tchibo Tripp Trapp copy. Is it big?
LL I just know he will constantly get down and wander about and I use the time he is safely (or used to be!!) strapped in his seat to nip to the loo, do the dishwasher, etc.

How did you answer my Q before it was posted?????!!!

there is no highchair you can safely strap a 2 year old into while you nip to the loo. i would get used to having a little admirer everytime you pee.

NeverTickleASleepingSoupDragon · 19/07/2007 14:24

I would say that if he can climb out of his high chair, you might as well get a chair that is high IYSWIM. Ikea do one. DS2 had one of their step stools though. Can't find it on the website but it looked safer than the high chair.

It is the Prima Pappa highchair. it is an older version of this

I agree that there's no safe chair to leave a 2 year old in unattended.

The TrippTrapp-alike is the same size as a normal chair really. Has the adjustable seat and footrest and a bar that goes round to stop them falling out. no harness though so won't work for what you want really.

NAB3 · 19/07/2007 14:27

He pushes them down off his shoulders and climbs upwards to get out of the crotch bit. Sometimes he leaves them on and leans as far forward as he can and scares me.

NTASSD I would worry about him falling off there!

OP posts:
chevre · 19/07/2007 14:28

honestly get something he can climb down from safely.

NAB3 · 19/07/2007 14:28

Maybe I should just let him sit on the proper kitchen chairs but he just seems so little.

we use a bog standard mothercare booster for ds3 (he's almost 4 but has SN) and its been fabulous, means we can still use our nice high backed dining chairs but he can reach and be kept at table

NAB3 · 19/07/2007 14:29

Do you have a link for that one please?

Peachy · 19/07/2007 14:30

Hang on

NeverTickleASleepingSoupDragon · 19/07/2007 14:32

Oh, I agree about that chair-that-is-high! The step stool DS2 used was called "Bekvam" and it was ideal as he could climb down and up safely and was only £8. It's not online anymore though so I guess they've discontinued it for the new catalogue.

Peachy · 19/07/2007 14:32

It's pretty much www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000JEG452/sr=1-2/qid=1184851844/ref=sr_1_2/026-2639101-5911666 ?ie=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44568031&mcb=corethis (different colourway)

with ds1 we used one of the Ikea high chairs (the emphasis being high chair as opposed to highcghair iyswim?) with reins as a harness, I find the booster better though tbh and we could take it out in the garden or wherever when he was smaller

amidaiwish · 19/07/2007 14:39

why don't you just give up on the highchair and move to a small table and chairs like this
you can get plain/cheaper ones in Ikea etc.

NAB3 · 19/07/2007 18:01

Just typed a reply and the computer ate it!

The Mothercare one is similar to the one we have at my ILs but I don't trust the baby to be in it all the time.

We do have a small set of table and chairs, maybe I should move our table back in to the dining room and use the small set.

OP posts:
Peachy · 19/07/2007 18:29

That would work

the boosyter chair is only as secure as the chair its on; we have stonking great solid wooden chairs with huge backs and kegs so its a very safe bet. I imagine it wuld depend though

NAB3 · 19/07/2007 20:54

Thanks for that. I will have to have a think.

Just wanted to add that you could try a cloth harness-type thing, like the Totseat. We have one and it's great for keeping DS on a big chair. He isn't much of a wriggler, but it's sold as being a very good restraint (for want of a better word!). I think I first heard of it on the mumsnet review pages.

I would also agree that a small table & chairs is a good idea.

Good Luck
