Highchair idea please

NAB3 · 19/07/2007 14:15

My 2 year old can get out of his highchair even though it has shoulder and crotch straps. He isn't ready, or rather it is more we aren't ready, to have him sat on a proper chair so has anyone got any ideas please of a booster seat type thing? TIA.

The totseat looks good but I think my bruiser might be a bit too big.

Oh well, worth a mention. My DS still fits comfortably in his at 2, but he's not big for his age, so perhaps I'm just lucky.

NAB3d, your lo sounds exactly like dd.! We also have the prima pappa and tbh its not very safe imo once they get to toddler stage. DD also pulls the straps down (they don't fasten very tight) and tries to climb out nd even stands in the seat . Im sure she will fall one day BUT im making do until she no longer needs it.

I have bought a cosatto one for ds (5 months) and dd use it as well occasionally but tbh thats also not as safe for her. I just use it while in the room and try and sit her down with me to eat etc. Maybe one day she will sit long enough to eat a meal.

I sympathise with you. Good luck in your search. x

pobletsmum Do you mind me asking how much your 2 year old weighs? Mine is boy, 2 and 5 weeks and weighs 2st 3ish. Would it suit?

Another vote for the Totseat.

We use IKEA Antilop in the house and have a Totseat for out and about

MadEyeMacdog · 20/07/2007 13:06

you can email Totseat direct : [email protected] with questions

Or call : +44 (0)131 226 6064

I have a very strong, very wriggly 14mthold, who in just about any highchair, brings her legs up, slips straps down etc. At home we've got the Fisher Price 'space saver' hgihchair / booster, from Boots, which straps on to a normal chair.
It looks a bit more like a car seat IYKWIM - it is moulded around her, well padded (it has a recline setting for littlies). Because of this, it seems she can't wriggle so much. The straps go really tight, there's no space round her body to manouvere her arms out, there's a big 'crotch post' to stop her slipping, and no foot rest to push against. And the tray clips on to the arms so I put it close to her body. Also, the back and padding comke off to turn it into a booster. It is fab! Although I've just made it sound like a staight-jacket...

MEMD and PJR; thanks both. Have just emailed. Will look on Boots for your suggestion.

PJR: was it any of these?

i second the handysit

NAB3 · 20/07/2007 17:46

He just got out of his high chair and appeared behind me. The straps are all still fastened. Need to get something, quick!!

I really reccomend the Tripp Trapp - expensive, but my dd is still using hers as a desk chair and she's 11!

katelyle · 20/07/2007 18:02

Sorry - didn't read the op properly. I think he sounds too old for a high chair but the tripp trapp would be perfect to adjust for him to sit up at the table.

BTW - I don't think it's ever a good idea to leave a child strapped in a high chair alone. And I am very non safety conscious usually!

NAB3 · 20/07/2007 18:02

I don't leave him unattended. The loo is right next door and there are always other people in the room.

I dont bother strapping dd3 into her handysitt (she is 15 months)

she gets out when she likes and sits happily when she is eating

I also leave her unattended on a daily basis

Enid · 20/07/2007 18:04

when she is doing my head in and I need a poo in private I strap her into her buggy (in the hall) and give her some books

pobletsmum · 20/07/2007 21:33

NAB3 - sorry for delay replying. Haven't weighed DS for ages but he was just under 2st a few months ago if that helps! I think e-mailing the company for info is a good idea.

NAB3 · 20/07/2007 21:35

Have emailed them this morning but no reponse yet. Hubby's idea is to sit him on a big csuhion. Haven't actually got a big cushion but never mind. Shops are calling me.

Did you try the little table and chairs? I think you said you've got one?

NAB3 · 20/07/2007 21:41

I haven't today but he did use them the other day. Kids loved it but the baby just kept wandering about and nicking his older brother's dinner!!

OP posts:
katelyle · 21/07/2007 07:36

Sorry - I misunderstood. This is one of my particular paranoias because a child died in the town where I live getting tangled in her highchair straps. Ignore everyting I said - except for the stuff about how brilliant tripp trapps are!

Bubbaloo · 21/07/2007 07:41

Have you seem the booster seat that nurseryandtoys.com have at the mo?
It's reduced to £2.99 and will fit over your normal dining chair and protect it too.
I bought 2 from them recently for my ds1 who is the same age as your ds and it's perfect aswell as a bargain.

amidaiwish · 21/07/2007 08:49

have you seen this chair harness here suitable up to 2 1/2?

DD2 (20m) has been sitting at the little table and chairs with DD1 (3.5) for a good few months now with no problem, and then we use the handysitt if we are all eating together at the big table.
when you said the baby walks about? is that your 2 year old or do you have a younger?

NannyL · 21/07/2007 09:32

not read whole thread but im sure he would be safe if you used properly adjusted reins as he wouldnt be able to wriggle out of them

NAB3 · 21/07/2007 14:20

Bubbaloo It looks great but £6 postage seems a bit steep. Do you know of any discount codes please?
