Hi Ladies, I know you can help. I need to buy a high chair and I have no idea which one. Research on mumsnet suggests either of these two and I know tchibo have a copy of the tripp trapp. Can you help?
booster seat
or
Tripp Trapp
or
Tchibo

too had bought the prima pappa and it was horrible, bulky, very difficult to clean, then i bought a second hand wooden winnie pooh highchair which my ds2 kept trapping his arms down the side and the buckles kept popping off underneathe the chair. i searched not just mumsnet recommendation page, i also looked under current/archived messages and there was lots of praise for the tripp trapp so bought one. have not been disappointed - it is so easy to put together and cleaning it is a dream. should add that if you search under current/archived messages there was someone a while ago that was buying the tchibo, they might have since posted to give their verdict. i do remember lots of mumsnetters saying the cushions were a waste of money as they were constantly in the wash. don't know what age you can use the tripp trapp from though, only niggle is it can be fiddly for big podget 15 month olds getting in and out when it has the safety bar on! though you and they get the hang of it soon enough
can you go to a shop to try both out - when i saw the tripp trapp i just knew

Fennel · 13/09/2004 20:36

Mrs D - I like the tripp trapp but the tchibo and other imitations weren't around 4 years ago - would buy one of the cheaper imitations now.

I guess i was impressed when pregnant with dd1, I visited a dutch friend and her toddler, nearly 2, could climb up and down off her tripp trapp by herself, so independently, but still perfectly seated at the right level for eating. very neat. You can live with a tripp trapp chair for years and there's enough garish plastic around with kids (at least in the Fennel household there's plenty) without choosing more of it.

Fennel · 13/09/2004 20:37

you can use tripp trapp from as soon as sitting, so 5 or 6 months usually. by 7 months they should all be fine in them.

MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 20:37

No I haven't found anyone who has a tchibo. We have a shop in town which is partly why I am soo interested. Besides the fact it is sooo much cheaper too.

I got the IKEA Antilop one (£11 + £4 for the tray) it is really simple, incredibly easy to clean (you can even place it in the dishwasher).

shrub · 13/09/2004 20:53

mrs doolittle - look under 'tripp trapp' on ebay. they have a second hand one at the mo that has a current bid of £67 - you could go for that or be reassurred that they have a good resale value, there another one on there that is very similar for £35, just to add to all the confusion.....

Tommy · 13/09/2004 21:17

We have both - that's what I would recommend - booster for first few months and TT for later (very helpful aren't I? )

KristinaM · 13/09/2004 21:59

What about this?
john lewis highchair

Fennel · 14/09/2004 08:18

KristinaM, that's the one - East coast highchair - which Dsis has, it's nice (though I'd still choose the Tchibo). but you can get it for £50 elsewhere on the web, rather than the £69 at John Lewis.

bunnyrabbit · 14/09/2004 09:13

But does anyone have the Tchibo chair. Am also very interest in this now for future use....

Blackduck · 14/09/2004 09:55

I have a tchibo.....very nice - the cushions are abit thin but as others have pointed out you don't really need them. Ds loves it cos he gets to be at the table. Took no time at all to put up. Easy to clean. Nice footrest for the dog to put his paws on

bunnyrabbit · 14/09/2004 10:54

BD

Thanks I think I'll get one.

I wanted this chair too but Tchibo have sold out completely. I checked the website and phoned the shop. They said they had sold out of it in 3 weeks!!!

Tripp trapp is v nice indeed! but loses on value for money.
Tripp trapp fits under a table better than East coast junior.

we tried a east coast one at a cafe the only problem is the tray was useless - very small and no lip so all the food went straight on the floor. if you don't need the tray then the rest of it was fine, very solid.

MrsDoolittle · 14/09/2004 21:13

Sorry Galaxy, although you persauded me to buy the booster seat. I phoned our local Mothercare World as I intended to go and get it there and then. They didn't have it in stock either.
Like you I can't afford the Tripp Trapp having just bought a carseat, a cot, loads of fancy nappies, smart clothes for going back to work etc, etc. Infact I had almost dismissed it out of hand but......
And now this is the latest . Atleast I can dismiss this out of hand. £489????

So where is the best place to buy one from? Back in Action have the best price I have seen so far. Beats the Born company with MN discount!!
