Hi Ladies, I know you can help. I need to buy a high chair and I have no idea which one. Research on mumsnet suggests either of these two and I know tchibo have a copy of the tripp trapp. Can you help?
booster seat
or
Tripp Trapp
or
Tchibo

I wish I'd bought a tripp trapp or similar instead of the mothercare one we do have. Sorry, not much help, I just wanted to say, wow a whole 1p off the booster seat - bargain

emmatmg · 13/09/2004 11:50

Wouldn't get the tripp trapp one simply because the Tchibo is sooooo much cheaper and virtually identical.

IMO booster chairs are a pan because of all the bit of food that gets on the nooks and crannies.

vict17 · 13/09/2004 11:54

Hi MrsD - I'm afriad I agree with Emma - I'm going to get this one which seems much easier to clean \link{http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/BruHome/BruFeeding/BruFeedingHighchairs/BruFeedingHighchairsAccessories/718726}

vict17 · 13/09/2004 11:55

sorry messed link up - its the Bruin High-Low Highchair one anyway

edam · 13/09/2004 12:42

We bought a dirt cheap plastic chair from Argos as a stop-gap while we made up our minds on a 'proper' high chair. Still using it! Doesn't look particularly pretty but does the job fine. And all for something like £15.

lulupop · 13/09/2004 12:49

We bought a Mamas and papas Prima Pappa one, which was absolutely cr*p. It was a realy fiddle to fold and unfold, impossible to clean properly, and anyway DS never took to the tray - he wanted to be pushed up against the table we were all eating at.

So then we got a Tripp Trapp. It is brilliant, great design, and he loves it. And it will last for years as it just becomes a normal seat. Our babysitter (aged 15) still sits on hers!

That said, that Tchibo one does look almost the same for a third of the price.

MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 13:04

Can anyone think of a reason why I should by the Tripp Trapp instead of the Tchibo? I would rather a wooden one, if I am honest.
Oh Thank you for all your replys

MrsD, I would also suggest to have a look at the Antilop highchair from Ikea, which although plastic, is brilliant IMO as you can wipe clean. We bought it as a spare for Grandma's house but I wish I had it instead of my M&P Prima Pappa which quite frankly has too many bells and whistles for it to be totally practical. The Ikea one was about £15 including the tray. Also have a look at the Handysitt (I got mine from Kiddicare £49) which is a wooden booster seat with cushion (they do two cushions, one for babies and one for toddlers) which we have just swapped our M&P for so that dd can sit at the table. Advantage of this is that I can clean under the seat without removing it and there are no real nooks and crannies for spilled food to find its way into. HTH

hewlettsdaughter · 13/09/2004 13:29

That Tchibo one looks good MrsD - might invest myself...
Booster seats can be handy but when we borrowed one to try it out (when ds was small) it didn't fit our chairs properly.

bunnyrabbit · 13/09/2004 13:44

I've got the first step booster seat and am very pleased with it. We only bought it whilst we were choosing a 'proper high chair' but like edam, we didn't bother. It reclines so you can put a tiny baby in it, and it has different seat levels. The seat easily unclips from the rest of the chair for cleaning so you don't get food trapped anywhere, and the tray unclips so you can push the chair up to the table.

Although it's not really portable, we do take it on holiday with us.

I must say, I do like the look of the Tchibo chair though.....

we cheat a little on this one dh work bought us one as a leaving pressie so we have great big m/care one , although will say that ds will not sit in it and it left marks on his tummy - bless , have taken to feeding him in his walker thing - without wheels if that makes sense - npt much use for the decsision making - sorry

Decmum · 13/09/2004 14:04

Follow the Mumsnet product advice and get a Handysit...it's wooden...it packs flat so you can take it away or to restaurants...it sits on any chair so your baby will feel like a grown-up...it's wooden...it looks great...the strapping in is easy and lasts and lasts.

We got one as a result of the recommendation of Mumsnet mums and I'd agree it's excellent.

MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 14:38

I am afraid that the handysit is too advanced for her. Dd is five and half months, she can't sit up properly yet.
Very persuasive, bunnyrabbit

Sorry, I meant First years....

MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 20:03

Dd's nursery nurse has just recommended one of these to me too.
Anyone else with a persuasive comment about the Tchibo?

Fennel · 13/09/2004 20:07

Tchibo or tripp trapp looks nicer! the fact she's not sitting now at 5.5 months doesn't mean much, she'll be sitting in a few days or weeks, quite likely by the time the chair arrives.

it depends a bit how big your kitchen is though. Tripp trapp or Tchibo is v good for toddlers as well as babies.

Fennel · 13/09/2004 20:08

also, tripp trapp (and presumably tchibo) is easy to wash if you just don't buy/use the cushions! my dds sit (in their fat washable nappies) and have never needed the cushions so you just sponge down the wood, easy.

MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 20:10

Hi Fennel, I don't spend ALL my times on MN honest!
I just thought the booster seat would be nicer at the table, besides it would take up less space

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 20:11

This is very convincing Fennel

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 20:12

Infact, by the time I've made up my mind dd will be sitting at the table to eat her breakfast!!

OP posts:
Fennel · 13/09/2004 20:14

you are right a booster takes less space. but the sitting up ability really won't be an issue for long.

am rather fond of my tripp trapps, can you tell? one of the very few things I bought new for dd1 and then for dd2 as well.

shrub · 13/09/2004 20:17

another vote for the tripp trapp

MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 20:18

Ahhh but why Fennel? You haven't said.

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 13/09/2004 20:20

And neither did you shrub.
