Laptop-Where should I buy one-DELL?PC WORLD etc?

Am planning on giving my credit card a bashing and investing in a new,all singing all dancing laptop as mine is ridiculously antiquated.

Have never had a particularly good experience with PC world but not sure where else to get one.

Any advice?

Would only recommend PC Wank for the desperate - sorry!

Having said that though, DP bought mine from there and made them bring several boxes out to get one that they hadn't interferred with

I got mine from miscoi have a 15.4" Toshiba Satellite Pro M40

they are very well priced and quick delivery

Am thinking of getting one from Dell. Their website looks OK. No experience of their customer service though.

Oh God-how boring is shopping online for a pc when you haven't got a clue about what you really need?

ok - so what do you want to do with it ? How much is your max price ? Why a laptop as opposed to a desktop ?

Laptop as opposed to desktop for flexibility-so I can sit on the sofa drinking wine with the F word on and Mumsnet at the same time.

I need to email,surf,do spreadsheets,store heaps and heaps of photos,would quite like to be able to edit video footage (highly unlikely but hey gotta have dreams),powerpoint (that's another unlikely but I do need to be able to open ones sent to me).
Would also quite like a built in webcam.
Play DVD's and burm photos onto disc.

Hmmm-anything else I should have?

Budget-less than £1000 really.

I don't but would probably like to -embarrasingly I have had an iPod for 2yrs and never used it

I bought my laptop from dabs.com - they were very reasonable and I did a lot of looking around.

Like the Toshiba one,just thought 120GB memory would be better than 60-plan to hang onto this one for a while.....

Love the look of this one but *how much?

Acer is PCW own brand i'm told.

Go to PCW etc and have a look at lappy's they have the spec etc and then you can make an informed buy.

Hubby - tech minded said i could have fijutsu or toshiba.

Wouldn't change mine now, i have powerpoint, adobe photoshop on mine and dvd burner but no built in web cam.

PC World are sh*t. I can recommend Dell, however, the laptop batteries don't last. The actual lap top and the desktops are good and they are really reasonable and fast delivery.

That one is nice but agree at the cost all for the 'Sony' name.

Toshiba are the salesmen lappy so has many years of rugged use so they are very reliable, mine travels from home to work via car, plane, train, bus and tube bashed and bounced and is fab.

I think you probably need 1GB RAM (memory) at most. Go for maybe 80-100Gb hard disk.

I would think you should get something reasonable for say £500 - eg
