I really need to buy some new makeup.
At the mo i am using collection 2000 foundation, and seperate powder, but it often looks like i haven't put anything on at all as you can still see skin blemishes, old spot marks e.t.c.
It also makes me look pale so is obviously the wrong colour too.

Any make-up experts out there who can help me please

Could also do with a good mascara blusher and lippy too

last time i used strawberry net i was charged about £18 at the post office for duty

tamum · 31/08/2004 21:42

Yes, I'm sure that's right lou. I think if it's under £18 it's OK, isn't it? Sadly my order wasn't

tamum · 31/08/2004 21:44

Oops, that was to Lou about the value of the whole order- £18 duty is definitely not alright.

Incidentally Branster, the link I gave has discounted Touche Eclat on the front page, but you'll have to race against lou .

lou33 · 31/08/2004 21:45

Yes I am quite into that crusty eyed zombie effect atm.

WideWebWitch · 31/08/2004 21:46

I reckon 2000 calorie mascara is great and it's only 7 quid. Touche Eclat is worth every penny (21GBP) imo, as is glow enhancer from the Body Shop (a tenner ish), people always tell me I look well when I wear it anyway. I like Clinique balanced make up base as foundation too (15 quid).

nutcracker · 31/08/2004 21:47

Actually i'm not sure why i wear powder aswell, i just always have.
I am 26 but my skin feels like i'm about 46 i think.
Just in the past couple of years my face seems to have aged alot.
I don't drink enough water so will have to rectify that.

As for a skincare rooutine, well i don't have one. I wash my face and thats it .

What is a good skin care routine then ??
I have never found a moisteriser i like, and never found any spot stuff that works either, though i will try the tea tree stuff Branster.

Yes Lou, I remember you saying it was no good for you. Ah well, you're saving yourself 21 quid every few months!

spacemonkey · 31/08/2004 21:47

I love benefit makeup. Their boing industrial strength concealer is really good, as is the ooh la la under eye depuffer.

You can cheap out on mascara and lipstick/gloss because they don't last long anyway, but ime it is worth spending more on quality foundation and concealer - I think cheapo foundation is awful. I use clinique foundation and the colour is right, it lasts ages and smoothes out imperfections much better than any of the cheaper ones I've tried.

Beware the sales tactics of the orange women in department stores. Resistance is useless!

nutcracker · 31/08/2004 21:49

It says that the touch eclat stuff is one colour suits all, is that right ???

OP posts:
spacemonkey · 31/08/2004 21:51

yeah, I think it only comes in one shade

never found it any good myself, good concealer is better

spacemonkey · 31/08/2004 21:54

oops sorry mm

my point is that they are scarily convincing

or i am completely gullible

nutcracker · 31/08/2004 21:54

Right I will search out me decent clothes and go to the department store and ask advice.

Will probably wait until my mom is with me as she will stop me spending loads and probably end up buying something herself which will stop me feeling guilty.

The benefit lady WAS v convincing sm, and their stuff looks good on you, I must say.

nutcracker · 31/08/2004 21:57

Hmm will try and find normal looking girl then

tamum

spacemonkey · 31/08/2004 22:04

she was only about 14 though wasn't she lou, and looked slightly chavvy!

that under eye stuff is amazing though because not only does it de-puff but it has a touche eclat effect as well with light reflective doobries

PS I am emailing you

Branster · 31/08/2004 22:13

YES YES YES , The Body Shop do a brilliant concelear (comes in 2-3 shades) in a green tube with a golden lid and a wand inside. It is really, really good. Can't remember the name. It's not the one wickedwaterwitch mentioned but it reminded me of it. Someone in the shop would be able to tell you about it though.

nutcracker · 31/08/2004 22:16

Will look out for that Branster thanks

serriously nutcracker, don't spend any money on make up until you spend a month looking after your skin. Drink lots of water (if warm, it's easier to drink!), use a clenser suitable for your skin type (any make, find one in boots), don't bother with toner, just splash your face with cold water, use a fine scrub on your face once a week, use a mask suitable for your skin type once a week(again find one in boots or superdrug, don't spend loads on it and don't buy too much of it in case you have a sensitive reaction to it). spend as much as you can on a day moisturiser with spf (try No7, Olay, Nivea or anyhthing else you've heard of), have a look on Boots website to make up your mind first. Don't touch your face, don't wear any make up, use tree tea oil on spots as soon as they start coming up (it stinks but it does work). Do all this by the letter for a month, then get a night time moisturiser and see if you need any foundation etc. Promise??!!

Branster · 31/08/2004 22:22

Have a makeover while you're there! Not sure but I would have though it to be free?

Dingle · 31/08/2004 22:23

I use to be a part time party plan manager for a make up company- I got really into it and even did my NVQ in beauty therapy. Don't use it much now- that goes for both my knowledge (little that it is) and make up- the chance would be a fine thing!
Without sounding like a sales pitch- you should really be using a moisturiser nutcracker. If you don't drink enough water your skin will be drying out from all angles! All skin types should use some form of moisturiser from at least 20's. The right moisturiser will help your make up go on better, protect your skin from UVA, help retain the natural moisture in your skin....
Haven't read all the posts, but have you though of party plan. It gives you a chance to try out different products first without buying them, in the comfort of your own home, without some tangoed looking sales assistant pushing you. You also get discounts, special offers..etc.
But then again you will only get good advice if you are lucky enough to get a good, demonstrater.
Hope I haven't come over as too pushy, but I know I would never have the confidence to go into a dept store, and now I don't have the time or chance to anyway. Just thought it might be another option.

nutcracker · 31/08/2004 22:33

I would have a party but don't know enough people to invite . Would rather go to someone else's party.

Branster - I will take all that onboard.
Why is it better to drink the water warm though ??? Not sure i'd like it and do i have to boil it and then let it go cool ??

She did look a bit dubious in her 14 year old gum chewing way, but she made you glow!
