Step 4 - Clear your house of all old catalogues. You probably have one of those wrist-strap sellotape dispensers, use this to tape the pages closed that that it doesn't accidently flop open and tempt you (NB if you don't have one of these dispensers do NOT buy one)

Step 5 - Gather any kitchen accessories/gadgets that you rarely use and have a garage sale to get rid of them. (Once you have been paid you may wish to recommend this book to the buyer as she is almost certainly a CGAD sufferer too)

Step 6
Wear very dark goggles when walking through your kitchen store. Make sure you bring your children with you.

edam · 27/08/2004 21:14

aaarrggh I clearly haven't given Lakeland my new address since moving and haven't got the latest catalogue... our post office forwarding thingy must have run out. Bum.

I do have the breadkeeper (presumably still in a box from the move, never used the damn thing anyway), some spatula type thingies and a venetian blind duster... what is it that makes their catalogue so irresistable? How do they convince you that you desperately need 1001 useless gadgets for your home?

bran · 27/08/2004 21:19

Step 7 - Pare your kitchen equipment down the basics, if your grandmother didn't have it in her kitchen, you don't need it. (If your grandmother also suffered from CGAD, then select another minimalist role-model)

sunchowder, you are going to think me mad but for the last 6 years I will only use Williams Sonoma potholders... no other oven mitt/potholer thingy will do. They are lovely and thick and square and everytime I go to the states I come back with about 6 sets to last me the two years or whatever it is that it may take me to go back to the states.

that is very sad, isn't it?!

down to my last but one set if you want to send me a xmas pressie...!

sunchowder · 27/08/2004 22:50

PPH, I have two sets of Williams and Sonnoma Pot Holders!! (one in Denim and one in a lovely french print and matching aprons). I own about 12 Le Cruset Pots including a blue tagine. they also have fabulous linnens. I bought three of the french quilted boutis ones on sale (had to have one in each color- blue, red and mustard with fab designs) and I am also mad for the indian block prints (they have a provence line). I had to have a complete Wustorf knife collection along with the Kyocera Ceramic knives and peelers. I love their line of soaps, all of their hand tools are beautifully made too. I am quite unwell with my disorder as we now have a name for it (CGAD) (thanks to Bran) and I do understand why you love their things. I do too!! Have you even been to Crate and Barrel? That is a fun shop also and the prices are not as dear--it is different to Williams and Sonoma. I also love switchplates and hardware, I have a knob collection.

whizzz · 27/08/2004 22:52

Sunchowder - I don't beleive you have a knob colection ! How many knobs do you own ???!

poppyseed · 27/08/2004 22:55

Just got my Vacusacs for our summer weight quilts and Wall protectors for those stray door knobs that leave chunks out of your plaster.......

sunchowder · 27/08/2004 23:01

Well.....about 60......I keep trying to give them away to visitors. I just gave away a gorgeous rooster and it went all the way back to Leeds...I have swirls and flowers and leaves and ceramic ones with designs and jewel ones. I also have this thing for switchplates which is even worse. I had to have all copper hand made ones when I redid the kitchen. They were terribly expensive but I do love and appreciate them each time I look at them! I work full time, but I am dying to get a website built (Sunchowder's Emporia) so that I can continue to buy for others and make money, as oppposed to bankrupting the family. I would like to do furniture, gifts and accessories--everything for home, family and fun.

whizzz · 27/08/2004 23:04

Wow that sounds good ! But would it make your 'condition' worse !!!

sunchowder · 27/08/2004 23:07

I was hoping it would cure me, to get the thrill of the purchase, the excitement of opening the packages, and then being able to sell the merchandise! Or...maybe I could be a designer...

whizzz · 27/08/2004 23:10

You are definately addicted ! Anyway I'm off now - so happy kitchenware shopping ! Here's hoping your drawers are always full !!
