I would love one because my mom would make me a cool mosaic tile with the bits after I'd broken it.

Think I might ask an artisan friend to make me one, however.

snowwonder · 11/06/2007 21:39

no but i got one as a gift for my 30th bday last year... a pink one and loved it..in our garden centre you can get them with stuff written on like wedding, bday etc

Bought ones years ago for my sis. She loved it, but don't think she will ever want to smash it. However I did help her fish money out using the good old butterknife technique

I like the mosiac idea

I do think they're lovely, and have always wanted one, but I have an urge to smash them. The thought of all that money so near, and yet so far, just makes me want to smash them to take away the dilema later. IYSWIM?

Do I sound mad?

dressedupnowheretogo · 11/06/2007 21:47

Yes, cod, I'm friends with people who make ceramics for a hobby and a side income and who don't mind if I wear Crocs and clothes I bought at the Treefest.

The girls have banks.

They are old coffee cans with slots in the lids.

I decorated them with decoupage and fairy wallpaper thingies.

ChippyMinton · 11/06/2007 21:48

I was given one for my 40th. DH very kindly dropped in pound coins from time to time and yes, there was quite a lot of cash after a couple of years. I couldn't bring myself to smash it and spent two nights wiggling and jiggling a knife to liberate the cash. Sadly it has remained empty since.

Pound coins?!

Hell no!

Those are a lot of money.

Coppers and the odd 5p piece.

BibiThree · 11/06/2007 21:52

I LOVE them! The Terramundi website used to do bulk order discounts so one Christmas I bought 12 for family and friends and always buy one as a gift when a new baby comes along. Loads more patterns and designs around now too.

I've never completely smashed mine though, too anal for that - always prised the top off with a chisel and use them to hold church candles and have planted a few herbs in them too.

ELF1981 · 11/06/2007 21:53

my sister has had two - got one and filled it with coins and notes (she could never be bothered to go to the bank with her hairdressing tips!) and saved a bloody fortune.
Tis customary to buy a new one out of the savings from the pot.
Sister has since brought most of our young relatives one as well

we got given one for ds1 when he was christened, we will let him smash it either whenhe is older or when the curent money in it is about to taken out of circulation

Littlefish · 11/06/2007 21:58

Dd was given one by her Godmother for her christening to start her travelling fund. We put £2.00 coins in it whenever we get them (which isn't that often). I love adding to it and imagining her using the contents to travel to amazing places when she's old enough.

ValnBen · 11/06/2007 21:58

Very nice and all that, but I would rather someone bought me a premium bond or two for a ?special occasion? prezzy ???. gettable savings with the tantalising benefit of vast ?extras? with no effort.

IIRC you can save £500 in £1 in them.

ChippyMinton · 11/06/2007 21:59

Loved the idea - it is an 'A11'. Actually a bit too tasteful!
