I am trying to work out if it will fit in my stupid boot. Long story, don't ask!

I know you have to take the seat off to fold it and I know the wheels come off too.

The dimensions everyone quotes for it folded are 80x20x60cm. This must be with the wheels off.

Anyway what I need to know is - the seat unit, separately, how big is it? Is it rigid in the middle where the bum part is, or does it squash down flat?

Hope that makes a little sense

It does sort of squash flat but it does take up quite alot of space in the boot. We have a large boot an were amazed about how much space it took.

Ceolas · 30/05/2007 12:07

Thanks. I guess the only way is to try it.

The Bugaboo just fit, but I can't help feeling at the price tag!

The seat unit - separately, not including base - on my 2006 model is

90cm long
45cm wide (at widest part)
20cm deep (max, where the 'bum' bit of the seat is)

You can decrease the length slightly by bending the footrest up, but that makes it bulkier depth wise iyswim.

The 80x20x60 is deffo with the wheels off - the chassis is about 65cm wide with them on.

Ceolas · 30/05/2007 19:41

it might just...

Ceolas · 30/05/2007 19:42

Forty, how would you say it compares to the Bugaboo? You have both, don't you?

OP posts:
bewilderbeast · 30/05/2007 19:59

i had to buy an estate car to fit my buzz in, taking it to pieces to get it in my punto just got too much

FirstAtForty · 30/05/2007 20:13

lol - only temporarily (dining room does look like a pram park ) - the Buzz IS on Ebay as we speak though

Oddly enough I do actually prefer the Buzz to the Bugaboo in some ways, but on balance the Bugaboo suits me better for what I use it for:

Buzz +ves:

  • Really sturdy and bouncy
  • Straightforward to fold and unfold (though folding takes a bit of strength sometimes
  • large generous seat unit, bigger than the Bug
  • Buzz box is good for storing things that you don't want to unload every time you fold it, eg nappies, wet wipes
  • very easy to adjust handle height

Buzz -ves:

  • BIG negative and the reason I'm getting rid of it - wide wheel base makes it a pain in shops
  • quite big and heavy, but it's that sort of pram so not really comparable to a stroller anyway
  • basket is large but shallow and things can fall out quite easily

Bugaboo +ves:

  • narrower and neater than the Buzz, easier in shops
  • large deep basket, holds loads of shopping
  • chassis lighter than the Buzz
  • the carrycot is included, though you can buy one for the Buzz and it would still be cheaper than the Bug

Bugaboo -ves:

  • nightmare to fold and unfold, I'm probably quite thick but I'm still struggling
  • looking like a Bugaboo ponce pushing a £600 pram around
  • feels a bit rickety compared to the Buzz, and the small wheels at the front don't seem as sturdy as the Buzz front wheels
  • not quite so easy to adjust handle height, got to fiddle about with knobs

hth! I'd generally recommend the Buzz, as long as you don't have to go shopping much in shops with narrow doorways and aisles.

Ceolas · 30/05/2007 20:23

Thanks

And in terms of the amount of space it takes up in your boot? Which is smaller? Wheels will have to come off either.

OP posts:
Ceolas · 30/05/2007 20:25

Oh, and what colour is your Buzz on ebay?

OP posts:
FirstAtForty · 30/05/2007 20:33

The Bug's a bit smaller folded up as the chassis is less chunky.

It's the 2006 model in Red Reflection, ending next Tuesday at 9.45pm - very clean and I'm sure it'll be a total bargain !

Ceolas · 30/05/2007 20:34

Red reflection would be my choice. My only problem is finding a 2006 model to try in the boot. Can't stand the 2007 ones.

You don't have to take the seat off to fold it in forward facing mode - I can measure it folded if you like?

Takes up more room if you have to store the two bits separately. Would it be an option to store the chassis in the boot and the seat unit on the back seat of the car?

That would be good, firstatforty.

We are trying to squeeze it in the tiny boot space left with all 7 seats up in a Zafira

Storing the seat unit in the car not really an option tbh.

I too am worried about the ponce aspect of the Bugaboo!

OP posts:
FirstAtForty · 31/05/2007 15:43

okay I'll measure it when I get home this eve - will be an adventure trying to fold it with the seat on, I've never tried!

Ceolas · 31/05/2007 15:48

I tried the new Buzz today in Mothercare. It just fitted in two pieces with the wheels off. Don't know how the old one would compare.

While we were trying it, a woman came over and said how wonderful her Buzz was and how she loved it so much!

On the down side, the sales chap jammed his finger unfolding it. Not the best advert!

shhhh · 31/05/2007 21:00

just to add, cheapest place for the buzz atm is kiddicare or ebay. (ebay cheaper by £10 BUT from outside of uk)

Ceolas · 31/05/2007 21:02

I definitely don't want the 2007 Buzz. If we do get it it'd be the 2006 model.

Chelseamum · 31/05/2007 21:05

My city car is a Mini.

I place the frame of the Buzz in the trunk and the Buzz seat in the car seat next to baby!

I love the Buzz!

As Kaiser Chiefs say

" Throw away your bugabboos.."

I seem to truly dislike them for what they mean... status symbol! Boo hoo!

shhhh · 31/05/2007 21:07

whats wrong with the 2007 model..? .

Ceolas · 31/05/2007 21:07

I feel in comparison, the seat and the hood are lots smaller. Not dying about the colours either!

OP posts:
shhhh · 31/05/2007 21:09

didn't realise they were smaller. We have just bought one and we are pleased with it. Went for strawberry. Each to their own I suppose. I quite like the funky bold colours atm..!

FirstAtForty · 01/06/2007 16:44

Ceolas - okay I've measured it folded down with the seat on - definitely takes up much less space than storing the bits separately:

Wheels on:
104cm long
65cm wide
38cm deep (at deepest point where the wheels are)

Wheels off:
104cm long
60cm wide
30cm deep (at deepest point - where the wheels would be if they were on)

The seat needs to be in the most upright position, facing forwards, before it will fold. The wheels are very easy to remove and replace.

I don't know how they get the 80cm length - even if you tilt the footrest that does decrease the length but not by much, and it just makes it bulkier in a different direction as the footrest sticks up. Don't know how they get the 20cm measurement either - maybe if you removed the wheels, Buzz box, hood and then sat on it it?!

Even so, I was impressed by the neatness really and it was relatively easy to do. I also hadn't realised that the seat will collapse much flatter if you push it.

Ceolas · 01/06/2007 18:23

Brilliant, thanks

Is that with the small front wheels off too?

OP posts:
FirstAtForty · 01/06/2007 20:16

No - all measurements are with front wheels on
