Double pram/buggy required???

I am pg and my ds will be 22mths when the baby is born. Will I need a double pram/buggy or will I be able to get away with a board on the back of my existing pram?

Also, I'll probably need a lightweight, easy to fold buggy for ds in the meantime, what do you recomend?

Depends on how much walking you do, your lifestyle and your older child

Jelley · 11/05/2007 20:25

You won't get alot of use out of a double buggy with that gap, I stopped using mine regularly by dd1s second birthday. I'd get second hand if you do alot of walking and think you will need it, or go with a buggy board/sling for the baby.
I used a litaf seat to go, which was great as dd1 could sit on it.

skibump · 11/05/2007 22:09

Jelley, hope you're still around, what's a litaf seat?

its a buggy board wth an extra step, so they can sit if knackered, in theory.

ould just second the advice to go secod hand with buggies - esp doubles. SO expensive new and they look like crap in no time anyway! bargainous second hand i reckon and you dont care if you dont get too much use out of it.

DD was 22 months when ds arrived and she is just approaching 2... we opted for a double buggy and ended up with the cossato duet lite and found it to be a bargain at around £180 ish...Were going to get an expensive p&t or Jane one but imo not worth it and glad we changed our mind at the last minute!!

We use the pram alot and although dd has taken to want to walk everywhere its brill as it gives us extra space (her seat) if we have extra shopping or allows her to be pushed around when she is tired or when we TEL her she is tired...she would walk for england otherwise.!

The front seat doesn't recline but she has a neck/head support which is eeyore and she loves it, she also loves turning to look at her brother through the window behind her. IMO its worth buying as at this age they want to walk loads BUT still need the option of being pushed around.
BTW it is heavy to push but then show me a twin pram that isn't..!!! Quite easy to steer etc however. Good luck.
cosatto duet lite

In theory? How about in practice? Just had a look for them and it looks a bit precarious to me, do the kids manage it ok?

Good point, 2nd hand makes loads of sense

Thx shhh, looks pretty good, and however much I hope ds will be happily walking at my side, I just know that there'll be all sorts of wingeing if he can't get a ride as well

Have to disagree with jelley, mine have a slightly bigger gap than yours will and I've used my double buggy (phil and teds) LOADS. The older one just isn't old enough to walk a long way or quickly when I'm in a rush - and he still likes to sleep sometimes or he can be off colour and doesn't walk. Buggy boards are great for older kids and if your footpaths are good but you try conving a 2 year old to walk next to you, stay on a buggy board or to balance while you get up a curb.

Can I ask why you need a lightwieght pushchair in the meantime - our phil and teds works just as well as a single and it fit into the boot of my micra easily - not too expensive if you buy from ebay and you'll get your money back when you sell.

cant tell you im afraid... i did buy one once, but couldnt get it connected or something... then it wnet onTheList Of ThingsTo Do and, of course, never got done. then, lots later, it was left outside in the garden by one of the kids until weather ruined...and finally chucked in the skip.

so no review from here then, sorry!

i will saythough; if you go for a tandem, test it first to see how heavy. motercare hoxton for eg is horribly heavy.

philnteds is wonderful, and turns back into single easily. 'spensive, but look out for second hand on eay if you fancy it.

if getting a side by side, check how wide and if you can get it in your front door (a total pain if you cant)

lyrabelacqua · 11/05/2007 22:29

My ds1 was also 22 months when ds2 arrived and we definitely needed a double. We got a Kidz Kargo Discovera Tandem (great three-wheeler tandem, fits thorugh doorways and looks great too). I would recommend it. cost us about £200 but think you can get it cheaper now.

skibump · 11/05/2007 22:30

Yeah, I was wondering if there was one that would work as a single and not be too bulky. I have a bugaboo at the moment, and as pushchairs go it's pretty big in the boot of my estate car, and not exactly speedy to put together. I was thinking an umbrella folding style would make more sense

the 1stwheels looks lovely and seems a dream to push BUT we found it took up loads of boot space as wasn't very compact..also quite expensive esp given the fact that you really wont get as much use out of it like you would a single pram.

The cosatto duet lite does have a recline seat at the back for the newborn and a viewng window so quite a nice set up so a 2nd pram wouldn't be needed unless you decide that you just want to take the newborn out alone...in my case if we do this at home then we have dd's old pram for walking local and if I go out without her but with ds then I just put him into the twin pram..! LOL yeah sure I get looks like I am mad or that I have left dd somewhere but who cares.!! I usually just make out that dd is out walking in another shop with dh..lol..!!

The p&t is a good idea in that it can go from twin to single pram BUT given the fact we already have x3 single prams this wasn't a requirement..!!!

NappiesGalore · 11/05/2007 22:33

and i would agree w liquidclocks - i had 3 dc in quick succession and flat refused to get a triple (actually, now ithink of it i did get a fecking fantastic triple thing once, had it shipped from NZ, but the sold it straihtaway as dp was scornful and a PITA over the expense - and said we didnt need it) but still, if i have a double out with me, its the older two who get the seats and im left carrying the 15mo. grrrr.

we have a bike trailer thing now, which has a pushchair 'mode'... great for off roading and all 3 fit in sidebyside.

skibump · 11/05/2007 22:35

Does the p&t one have a lie flat bit for the baby? and is it a manageable size folded down?

OP posts:
shhhh · 11/05/2007 22:36

yeah you will get your money back when you resell on a p&t BUT think...would you go to the trouble of selling it on..??? I considered it when I wanted the jane..I though yeah I will sell it on etc but when I thought more about it I realised that there was no way I could be arsed selling on a pram..cleaning it up (although mine are usually kept clean I knew someone may be picky iykwim) and it would mean someone collecting to save high postage etc etc....

NappiesGalore · 11/05/2007 22:36

i think you need a P&T
then you wont need any others.

NappiesGalore · 11/05/2007 22:37

ah but shhh, even i managed to sell prams on and i am queen lazyof laziville. postage is easy through ebay couriers...

liquidclocks · 11/05/2007 22:38

shhh - it's easy, just keep the box when you buy it and send it standard parcels - make £250 plus! I'd say it's worth the effort!

NappiesGalore · 11/05/2007 22:38

i sold my P&T (and regrettd it)

shhhh · 11/05/2007 22:40

skibump to answer your question...yes & yes although I would suggest you look at it first...we wanted the p&t till we viewed it and saw that the toddler seat underneath was quite low to the ground..read some bad reviews about it which I hadn't considered..also toddler could put hands on the wheels etc..I know accessories can be bought to stop this BUT imo you shouldn't need to buy extras to make it safe...

We reasearched the firstwheels, p&t,jane twin 2, cosatto duet lite, hoxton .

skibump · 11/05/2007 22:40

Selling it on.... sounds a bit like Nappies' ListOfThingsToDo (lol) and might get about the same result. HOWEVER it sounds like I might end up buying a lightweight buggy as well - for the new baby if not for ds, so the extra expense may well be worth it

OP posts:
liquidclocks · 11/05/2007 22:40

skibump - the cocoon for the newborn is just lovely and makes a great nap place for when you're out and about. It works great in the two toddler mode as well - there are compromises (loads of threads and reviews around) but overall it's a fantastic invention and it's great to have a single-sized pushchair that fits two children.

shhhh · 11/05/2007 22:41

never knew ebay had a courier service...and I have sold loads through them..!!!

Hmmmmm may have to consider that when I go to sell on dd's old prams once ds has had his use..then though I may decide for baby3....!!!!
