my 13 mth old spends most of the time out in one of these and we both LOVE it (dh wasn't so keen on the floral at first, but now even he begs to take the sling rather than the buggy
BUT everyone else will tell you ergo...

popmum · 10/05/2007 19:52

funnypeculiar · 10/05/2007 19:53

LaDiDaDi · 10/05/2007 19:54

Watching with interest as dd is 1yr now and I find her coorie in any position too awkward but would love something just to pop her in when going to the shops etc.

kittypants · 10/05/2007 19:54

i have ergo for sale on ebay.its fantastic-not just saying that.im only petite and ds isnt but i cant feel him.we use it when walking, shopping, housework etc.defiantly the most useful baby thing ive had.

kittypants · 10/05/2007 19:54

ergo freak!

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 19:55

funnyP - that looks great design Is it easy on your back?

chilledmama · 10/05/2007 19:56

I was recommended the Ergo or the Beco...but try a few first BigMamaSlings

You can hire from this website.

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 19:57

see ergo is on your front, impossible for me and getting hard for DH - also DS would hate being faced towards me, he likes kicking about etc. in the baby bjorn. Like the backpacks - and idea on price range? x

Vaude Jolie backpack did mine until they were 3. Fantastic design.

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 20:00

oh great, only £10 for 2 weeks... just need to think what one. Like the idea of a sling for out and about, and a backpack for days out...

kittypants · 10/05/2007 20:00

ergo can be back too,im too short for front.new generation ones are hip also

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 20:01

also DS wouldn't like to be confined, or put around my waist, he likes his leg free to pretend he is walking

with the slings - do they not have a max weight? J is 26 lb and I worry he wouldn't be secured.

(sorry for hijack q)

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 20:04

Beco looks great! DS might feel confined in it though, guess try it first.

OP posts:
Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 20:05

it's ok, hijack away - I noticed some types on slings said up to 3 years, it's the pouch tytpe ones that seem to be babies only.

I think this is the one we've got. You put your foot in the anchor point, pop them in, adjust straps and hoist them up. They sit just looking over the top of your head, so great view for them (hair pulling optional) and you get a big pocket at tehe bottom for storage of bits.

munz · 10/05/2007 20:10

see we had one from birth (I think a tomy one) which wasn't very good, J didn't feel secure at all even thou he was only 12lb in there and it goes up to 12 months. it felt all loose in the front if that makes sence. which defeats the point if u have to hold them I think anyways.

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 20:10

looks bulky compared tro Beco, but love the fact he is not staring at my back. I just know I would bang his head all the time though

I am also interested in any advice people can give as am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the choice available (I hadn't found anywhere that did hires though so Big Mama slings looks interesting).
I need to get a sling that I can use while I am sitting in my wheelchair with DD on my lap. DD is 11 weeks at the moment and if possible I would like to get something that will serve us well until she is happy to walk around or is this too much to expect?

popmum · 10/05/2007 20:14

he couldn;t bang his head in it!? he could rest his head on the bit with the pictures on

munz · 10/05/2007 20:18

ones like this or \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PADDED-Baby-Carrier-by-Freedom-Slings-Cool-Soft-Fabrics_W0QQitemZ290111783653QQihZ019QQcategoryZ137725QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem/or this} are these any good does anyone know? they look nice and comfy. (and if baby can be on the back as well Q will help with that one for you

munz · 10/05/2007 20:18

sorry this

Chirpygirl · 10/05/2007 20:20

I have a Mei Tai for DD who is 15 months. (It's the only way I can carry her now I am starting to get a preggy belly as otherwise she is either kicking the inside baby or the straps are pulling at my waist)
I wear it like a rucksack with a waist strap over my bump

Have a look on here about half way down for how it fits.
