Calling for owners' opinions on Jane pushchairs

Hi all, I am choosing the first pram/travel system and it is a tricky business.
I like Jane options (Slalom/Carrera/Nomad) for their Pro Auto carrycot that can be used as a lie flat car seat (and yes I know Which and Mothercare do not like these).
Which one of the three did you have experience with? I will be going for walks over some cobbled streets and park paths, as well as the normal city pavements. Will be doing some driving but not too much. Probably wll have to use public transport after 6 months. Any advice on choosing, as well as good and bad comments, are very much appreciated!
From what I've heard Jane is really good but that was just one person...
Thank you!

love my nomad.

but when choosing a travel system, please make sure the car seat fits in your car correctly.

ceolas · 07/05/2007 23:34

erm misdee, exactly how many prams do you own?

TheKnightsWhoSayNi · 07/05/2007 23:35

I have the Powertrack 360 with the Matrix carseat (which lies flat and WAS recommended when we bought it ).

It's very good for bumpy surfaces, lovely cushiony tires. DS slept like, er, a baby when he was little. We've also got the Dragonfly raincover which is very good (and very cool looking ).

It is VERY large though, OK for us cos we have a mahoosive car, but I could barely get it in my mum's hatchback. And it's very heavy. I started using my Quinny Zapp for most things as soon as DS was old enough, it's just easier for day to day stuff.

I'd be inclined to suggest something lighter and then maybe a backpack for the walking? We use a MacPac vamoose all the time and DS loves it.

misdee · 07/05/2007 23:37

shush

ceolas · 07/05/2007 23:38

My DH is having a fit at my wanting to buy a 'car' pram as well as the big one. I keep telling him about you

misdee · 07/05/2007 23:40

dont you have a 7 seater with all seats up? what was he expecting you to do?

did you get the other pram sorted btw?

ceolas · 07/05/2007 23:42

well quite!

Yes the other one is smelling much better now and I bought a new carrycot (it was just the pushchair). I can't wait to get walking with it, but not practical for lugging in and out all the time.

Techno is too long. Thinking about Pramette or Loola...

Sorry for the hijack Chiqita

misdee · 07/05/2007 23:44

pramette. loola is far too heavey.

ceolas · 07/05/2007 23:46

I trust you've had both!

misdee · 07/05/2007 23:46

loola lasted one day.

horsemadgal · 08/05/2007 00:13

I've got/had the Powertrack, Nomad and Carrera. All are fab, best pushchairs I have tried.
Powertrack is older version of Slalom, it's the easiest to push with the inflatable tyres. The other 2 are still quite easy to push (even with a 3 year old) but you can feel the weight more.
Powertrack/Slalom is the bulkiest though. Don't agree with it being heavy, maybe it's the bulk that makes it feel heavy, it's actually one of the lightest 3 wheelers I think.
I'd go for the Slalom and have a Carrera for public transport, but that's being greedy!!

AitchTwoOh · 08/05/2007 00:33

i have the nomad and carrera. like them both but the hood on the carrera is a bit useless as it's very small and dd feels too enclosed by it. i thought that the carrera would make a good car buggy but it's actually still pretty large. still good, though, i've tried my friends' plikos and loolas etc and they've not felt as robust.

ll, what are you going to do if you have another baby? my heart says yes to the lie-flat matrix, i loved it and so did dd and i feel that it's dafe, but Which says no...

AitchTwoOh · 08/05/2007 00:37

safe.

misdee, am very confused about denny on gray's anat. has she just killed him?

and what are your top pushchairs, you freaky buggy-lover?

nappyaddict · 08/05/2007 03:14

we have something similar to the matrix. we used it flat on the pushchair but upright in the car so it is safer.

i wanted the slalom, but went for the mutsy cos that can be used rear facing. be safe car seat

We've got the powertrack 360 and have used both the matrix and rebel car seats with them. It is quite bulky but we can fit it in the boot of a Clio if we pull off one of the wheels. I wouldn't to be honest fancy using it on public transport as although I found it light, it is bulky. We've had ours four years and there's just starting to be a problem with the swivelly (sp??!!) wheel which keeps locking.

rolledhedgehog · 08/05/2007 09:18

I have had the carrera with the matrix seat. I really liked is and it is sturdy. It did my two and I have now lent it to a friend so its on its third baby.

I used to use it on the bus with no problems.

DarrellRivers · 08/05/2007 09:22

I had the power track 360 (precursor to the slalom)
loved the lie flat car seat
great all terrain buggy
nightmare to fold up into to car and too heavy
i have a phil and ted now (double) and it is easier to use than the jane
i wouldn't recommend it as it is pretty pricy
for the money i would buy the bugaboo or get the phil and ted and use as a single buggy to start with

mankyscotslass · 08/05/2007 11:16

I have a powertrack for every day walking and stuff, and the carrera for public transport and around town. I love them, never had a problem with them. Did have the powertwin too, but sold that. Can't speak highly enough of the make

GColdtimer · 08/05/2007 11:23

I have the carrera and I love it (although the hood is a bit flimsy on our model but I think they have improved this now). We used the matrix lie flat car seat as car seat/pram until dd was about 9 months (it was highly recommended by our local shop when we brought it). It was really compact and I liked the fact the car seat just sat on the frame rather than the pushchair seat, iyswim. The only thing is the car seat didn't fit in the upright position in our Ford Focus so we had to get another car seat when she outgrew it in lie flat mode.

Good luck, I remember this being an absolute minefield!

MuffinMclay · 08/05/2007 13:08

I have the Jane Slalom (had with Matrix car seat when ds was younger). It is fab for cobbled streets and parks paths. You (and the baby) won't feel the bumps at all (with my Zapp - which I love for other situations - you feel every cobble). It feels really lovely and smooth to push.

The downside is that it is huge. We have a big car boot (Audi A6), but it takes up 2/3 of that), and it is wide so there are some shops cafes etc I just won't attempt. Can't say I'd want to take it on public transport. We did it once on the Cambridge Park & Ride buses, and never again!

I think it is bulky rather than heavy though.

LittleMan · 08/05/2007 20:58

We have the Jane matrix slalom pro and love it. It's been really useful for all situations even on the beach. The lie flat car seat was great, ds slept really well in in, started using it upright when he was 6 months ish as he wanted to see what was going on in the world. Don't understand how Which say it's not safe as according to Jane they've done all the safety crash tests etc on it. As someone said is one of the lightest 3 wheelers but is bulky and you need a big car boot. Also shopping basket thingy too small, but apart from that would definitely get another. Oh, we also have a Jane stroller, can't remember the name, the one you can use from birth with 5 seat positions. Ds loved this and slept really well in it when on holiday in Spain. Hth

gybegirl · 08/05/2007 21:30

On the lie flat crash worthiness question - someone can please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Jane's test had to be done at 30mph whereas the Which ones are done at a higher speed. Most crashes are above 30mph... If you want a 3 wheeler, we have the Mountain Buggy Urban. It's brilliant and indestructable.

Chiqita · 08/05/2007 23:27

Many thanks for all the replies! It seems Jane is well worth it. Now have to go to a shop to try Slalom and Nomad to make a final choice

The only repetitive complaint I've seen (in this thread and others talking about Jane) is that the front wheel of a 3-wheeler versions breaks in many cases.

Oh well, nothing is perfect I guess...
