For all stationery lovers there’s a bogof at plooms.co.uk/...they are gorgeous pens!

OP posts:
Parsleyisntfood · 08/02/2018 23:10

My lovely DH is always on the ball with presents. I’m hoping I’m in time to suggest a pen or mechanical pencil (swoon). He doesn’t think they’re real presents.

PetraDelphiki · 08/02/2018 23:18

Noooooo cult pens can’t go to smiths :-( that’s awful!!!

OP posts:
FrozenMargarita17 · 08/02/2018 23:23

Nooooo why, cult pens?! They were the best

CanIBuffalo · 08/02/2018 23:25

The Parson's Essential is the best pen under £50 I think. They're not pretty but they write beautifully.

notwantingtooutmyself1 · 08/02/2018 23:27

I'd suggest a Lamy Safari as a good starter fountain pen. I use mine loads at work btw.

saveyourkissesforme · 08/02/2018 23:31

I'd go for a Safari. Use one every day. Just bought the bogof here though.

diamantegal · 08/02/2018 23:57

Ooh, I want a rose gold fountain pen now. Haven't used a fountain pen in years, but as I have a tendency to re-write to-do lists for being too scruffy, the neatness of a fountain pen really appeals.

I'll have to dig out an old one tomorrow and give it a week at work to check I do still like it. And then go shopping!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 09/02/2018 00:09

I'm waiting for my gorgeous new stationary order to arrive tomorrow. I can wait, but browsing will keep me going until then Grin.

Can I interest anyone in discussing J Herbin inks? I love them all, but Violette Pensee has been my winter 2017/18 pick.

chatwoo · 09/02/2018 00:33

thanks for those suggesting Lamy Safari - I am going to look at them after work today!! :)

WheresTheHooferDoofer · 09/02/2018 06:10

Parsons essential, that's the pen I was thinking of. I looked at them and I think they look ok. Just got to wait a bit now I'm a single parent.

saveyourkissesforme · 10/02/2018 13:00

My bogof arrived. Beautiful valentine's packaging. Lovely pens. Really pleased with them. A shame I don't have anyone to give a valentine's gift to!

saveyourkissesforme · 10/02/2018 13:03

So far by the way comparing the new pens to the Safari I'd say that they are both great pens. The new ones feel less plasticcy and heavier but both are nice. New ones take much less ink so will need refilling more often. Nice weight to the new ones. Possibly prefer the nib action of the Safari but time will tell. I'm left handed but have standard nibs. Love pens.

SpidersWithBellsOn · 10/02/2018 14:55

Ooh, can anyone recommend somewhere to get a pretty parker? One that takes the ballpoint refills, I’ve lost my trusty pen that my mum bought me when I started aecondary school and whilst it was plain and unassuming I loved it. Of course I know I should dust off and learn to use my fountain pens, but I liked being able to chuck my ballpoint into my handbag and know it will run for years before it needs refilling and won’t leak like the sheaffer I pinched off my dad.

Riverside2 · 10/02/2018 14:58

mum accidentally let slip that my uncle has bought me a fountain pen for upcoming birthday

stupidly happy Grin

I think my sister's bought some kind of posh journal...ooooh......

99bluebuttons · 10/02/2018 22:14

Okay, so who has bought the Plooms pens? Are they a nice weight and do they write as nicely as the Safari (Spiders?) but feel more expensive? Somewhere, in the depths of a cupboard somewhere, I have a lovely Cross fountain pen but, despite turning the house upsidedown, I cannot find it so bought a Lamy. It’s nice, writes well but feels just a bit plasticky iykwim. The Plooms pens look gorgeous, I just need a few more people to say they’re lovely before I order!!!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 10/02/2018 22:20

My Lamy Vista is my everyday work pen (dark green ink, but it’s only for my notes so I can use what I like). I’m a sucker for the clear barrel Blush

I’m considering a dip pen and was looking at a J Herbin glass one, anyone use one?

saveyourkissesforme · 11/02/2018 00:30

The Plooms is a nice weight. I need to use it more to see whether it does write as well as the Safari.

diamantegal · 12/02/2018 14:48

Oh, what have you done? I've spent the day writing up notes, and dug out an old fountain pen to do it in. My writing looks so neat and pretty.

I now want a nice posh pen (although my cheap Parker from school appears to be working fine) and colourful ink, and Moleskin notebooks. Just think how lovely my to do list would look!

I was going to give up drinking at home for Lent. Maybe I'll justify a stationery binge with all the money I'll save...

CanIBuffalo · 12/02/2018 16:46

Get beautiful ink for existing pen. It knows your hand. It's formed itself to your writing.

It's missed you Grin

diamantegal · 12/02/2018 22:07

Are you my DH trying to stop me spending money?

Mine is a cheap old Parker - it writes well but doesn't feel nice. Whereas this one is so pretty.

And that's before I start on the really nice ones I found online...

Pen porn...
CanIBuffalo · 12/02/2018 22:19

Nah. That colour'll get right on your nerves within 6 months.Grin

chatwoo · 24/02/2018 01:03

just wanted to come back and say that the Lamy Safari I ordered from Paperchase (I live in Aus) has just arrived! It is a lovely colour (I chose the petrol blue) and it came with matching dark blue/green ink. It's a bit plastic-y. I have a Safari rollerball from years ago, which has some sort of lightweight metal casing - but perfect for work and making sure I can actually write with it. And not the end of the world if I misplace it or gets filched by a colleague Shock

saveyourkissesforme · 24/02/2018 08:19

I've road tested another pen very recently as I too think that the Safari is a bit plasticcy. I've come back to my Safari though as it's really hard wearing and writes beautifully. I might get another or perhaps try a different Lamy too as I need more.

MrsExpo · 24/02/2018 08:27

Oh dear ..... I thought I was going to be totally faithful to my gorgeous Mont Blanc but I can feel myself wavering ....... ARGH .....!!!!

junglebookisthebest · 24/02/2018 08:31

Can I ask if any of you fountain pen users are left handed? Do you need a special nib and what about smudging? My daughter is just getting to grips with joined up - I will ask teacher but I think they then move onto ink. I too got a parker pen when I learnt to join up!
