Crocs for kids -- do you like them?

Eleusis · 29/04/2007 16:52

That's it really. DD wants a pair and on the one hand I think they look really easy to care for. But on the other they are ugly and look really uncomfortable. Anyone have a pair for their kids? Do they like them? Are their feet covered with blisters?

Aren't they basically those shoes (colourful plastic) that kids used to wear to the beach? Just updated.

NKF · 29/04/2007 21:00

People rave about their comfort but they are too weird looking for me (and I'm no suffer to be beautiful type).

Eleusis · 29/04/2007 21:09

Cod, what's with all the agression? They are just shoes. Besides, I've long since learned that the clothes I like are not necessarily the ones DD likes. And I do let her choose what she likes to wear sometimes even if I hate it (well, within reason). She has a mind of her own, and there's nothing I can do to stop that. If I just choose shoes I like, she may never wear them. Like the cool Timberland shoes I bought hear a year ago. She hated them and often refused to wear them.

OK, Im convinced we are going shopping for Crocs on Saturday (IF she stays dry all week -- DH says my money is safe)

I've got a pair of the genuine article for beach and garden only!!!! Very useful but your feet do sweat-a lot, so probably won't be getting any for my lot. Would be fine if they were just for the beach but I think £20 is a lot for a kids beach shoe.

I noticed after buying mine that they are made in China, sorry to be a total kill joy but does anybody know if they're made in a factory that treats it's employees properly. Read a hideous article about work conditions in China especially those working with plastics.

milge · 29/04/2007 21:30

I can see why Cod gets aerated about adults wearing Crocs, but I really don't get the religious fervour against children's shoes. They are so practical and comfy, for slopping around the garden, the beach, the shops, I don't see what there is to stress about.I agree they shouldn't be worn all day every day, especially as school shoes, but for the 8 weeks summer hols, what could be more practical?? On adults, they look grim, on kids they look cute. And the can go in the dishwasher. This fact alone should make them compulsory to mothers.

Eleusis · 30/04/2007 08:00

They can go in the dishwasher? Now that would never have occurred to me.

no, same way i dislike kids in jellies.
why not just wrap them up in clingfilm to make sure the skin simply cannot breather at all?

MABS · 30/04/2007 08:24

my ds is disabled, his orthotist(top one in london) recommended them for him and they have been great.

NannyL · 30/04/2007 15:58

they are very good for your feet and offer very good support for your whole body

My charges have them and I have them... and we all wear them out together! (my bosses have them too!)

Im living in them at the moment, they are so comfy, they support your feet so well and they are so easy to care for. also your feet dont smell all swaety in them.

they are by far the comfiest shoes i own.

i just wore them on a dirty sandy track, so have washed them in the kitchen sink as well.... i could have put them in the dishwasher but didnt bother!

Eleusis · 30/04/2007 17:00

NannL, do your charges have skinny, fat, or average feet. DD has skinny feet and they look so wide and clunky. Also she wears an 8 1/2 so will have to go up to the 9/10 size. I guess we'll just have to venture out to a store and try them on in person rather than buying online.

OP posts:
Eleusis · 30/04/2007 17:07

So, where do you get the jibbitz things?

OP posts:
NannyL · 30/04/2007 17:08

6 yewr old boy ahs avergae feet
nearly 5 year old (5 in few weeks) has very skinny feet... to match her TINY body... she is still in 2-3 clothes and a group 1 car seat...

she is now nearly 15kg!

paulaplumpbottom · 30/04/2007 17:09

My DD loves hers, she marches around the garden in them

hana · 30/04/2007 17:12

saw the lady who created the jibbitz on oprah earlier and she is minted now!! she has 3 little girls and it just started with little bits they had at home - she eventually sold the company to the croc inventer for millions

Hulababy · 30/04/2007 20:16

Got DD's today. She's a 10.5-11 in normal shoes, so got the 10/11 which fit well. So would say they are quite big fitting in general.

No jibbitz yet though. DD gets £1 pocket money a week and will get some with what she has saved up. However was told that they are due in the UK tomorrow, so should be in store by next week.

princessmel · 30/04/2007 20:25

My dc have them. they were a present from a friend. I would have got them for them anyway actually.

They have jibbitz on them too. They picked them themselves. They both adore them and look very cute in them too.

They are fab really. Like a summer version of a welly. Easy to put on, washable, practical.

They have not hurt their feet atall. ds wears his without socks and he has had no blisters. dd wears socks as she's smaller and they stay on better with them.

I'm going to get them apair in winter as slippers and maybe some for me. ONLY TO WEAR INDOORS for me though. As slippers.

collision · 30/04/2007 20:28

No for adults but cute for kids

I met up with a MNetter last week and her little boys have some in lime green and the others were silver and they were cute.

Not sure if I would put my boys in them tho

princessmel · 30/04/2007 20:30

Eleusis, They would be good if your lo has an accident in them. They'd be much easier to wash than normal shoes. Another reason the get them!

princessmel · 30/04/2007 20:30

'TO' get them

pointydog · 30/04/2007 20:58

You are being very tactful, collision.

I know what you're really thinking, though

Vinegar · 01/05/2007 09:12

When I first wore crocs I thought they were comfy, didn't think they were as good as people were saying though. However, I wore them everyday on holiday and was walking in them for hours. I have flat feet and not once did my feet hurt, which I can't say for any of my other shoes. I really don't care if other people think they look vile - it's comfort over style for me for everyday use. DD loves hers as well - I think they are very versatile summer shoes.

Eleusis · 01/05/2007 09:51

What do you mean by flat feet? Do you mean you have no arch, or that you have one but it flattens when you put weight on your foot.

OP posts:
Vinegar · 01/05/2007 12:14

I have no arch eleusis, even when I am not standing. I really can't stand for too long before it starts huring dreadfully.

Spidermama · 01/05/2007 12:15

I like them on kids. Great for going in and out of the sea too aparently.

Eleusis · 01/05/2007 19:54

Well, bugger, She peeded all over herself in a big way today. What am I going to do now?

I used to have a dog like this. She would pee by the fron door when I left. Never dreamed my kid would do it. big sigh...
