I need to start pampering myself a bit, have let myself go and feel shite about it so need some beauty pick me ups. I'm sure I was slightly pretty many moons ago but lately I look like a haggered old bag and i'm only 28.

So what beauty product could you not live without ??

My budget is low but tis my birthday soon so tell me the not so cheap ones too

Don't buy the Boots tweezers. I've just bought some and they are terrible; I haven't even managed to get hold of one stray hair yet. Would it be cheeky of me to take them back? And are Tweezerman's really worth £12 odd?

I like Benefit moonbeam or high beam (depending on skin colouring) when I'm feeling rough. Adds a bit sheen to my face.

Boots No7 have a couple of cheaper versions of the Moonbeam and the Benefit Peachy powder and is on 3 for 2 at the mo.

Flakester · 14/04/2007 20:18

Eve Lom cleanser
Dior Flashstick (like Touche Eclat, but comes in two tones)
Johnsons Holiday Skin, still the best IMO (1/2 price in Boots at the mo)
Laura Mercier foundation
Bourjois eyeshadows (Chanel own Bourjois I think, so all made in same factory)
Olay SPF 15 illuminating moisturiser (about £7.99, vg)

Flakester · 14/04/2007 20:20

a dry skin brush (Body Shop do a fab, really hard bristles one)

SpawnChorus · 14/04/2007 20:22

Beauty must haves for me are:

No7 radiant glow foundation. I think it's fab - lovely texture, and it's light reflecting so makes the skin look smoother.

Rimmel cream blusher - pretty cheap, but nice consistency and a good colour.

Touche eclat

Benefit High Beam - recent discovery, and I love it! Gives a v subtle sheen on the cheekbones, which makes them look more prominent, but not in a scary 1980s way. Definitely freshens up the whole face, I think.

L'Oreal Voluminous mascara. They've brought out so many 'new and improved' mascaras, but I don;t think any of them beat good old Voluminous. Max Factor 2000 Calorie is a decent alternative.

If you need an eyebrow pencil, No17 do a good one. Stays put, and is a natural colour (for me, anyway )

Blistex lip balm is great.

Shiseido Mauve Brown lip liner is a great neutral colour.

I'd be hard pushed to do without any of these products actually. [vain]

Sorry, got distracted by Dr Who.

Am still list making and googling.

Yeah I normally find Collection 2000 lip gloss ok tbh.

I definatly need a decent foundation or tinted doo dah, some decent tweezers and would like some of that illuminating stuff.

I never do very well with eyeshadow, my eyelids always end up looking creased and cakey

Clarins beauty flash balm a lifesaver.
Touche eclat, Mac lipglass, any mascara..off you go.
Lizzie Arden 8 hour cream a good standby as it brightens up eyes and cheeks and makes a good lip balm. Bit smelly though.

Flakester · 14/04/2007 20:35

Try the Bourjois one nutty - very ;light on the old eyes

NuttyMuffins · 14/04/2007 20:35

Ok so how exactly do you figure out which colur foundation you need ???

I always get too plae, and if I let the woman in the shop pick, then it's too dark.

Flakester · 14/04/2007 20:36

ooh yes - Liz Arden 8 hour cream brilliant. Superdrug sell it for about £12.

NuttyMuffins · 14/04/2007 20:36

Sorry typos, ds is wittering in my ear.

Maybe go to a Prescri[tives counter. Their foundation is vg, and you'll be confident of getting the right colour.

busybusybusy · 14/04/2007 20:38

Lightening Touch from Body Shop is exactly the same as Touche Eclat but cheaper.

Walnutshell · 14/04/2007 20:39

Tweezerman's really are worth £12 odd.
Touche eclat is excellent.
Mary Kay bronzer, lovely, subtle even for pale bods like myself.
All Clarins products for body care are really fine, smell great too.

NuttyMuffins, know what you mean, I'm feeling haggered myself, sure it's having ds that has aged me! (So, anyone, good anti-ageing products?)

NuttyMuffins · 14/04/2007 20:40

Oh just discovered that ASOS do cosmetics.

Foundation: rub into jawline. Test a few shades. Check in natural light if poss. Should disappear and not look either orange or chalky. Posh counters should offer samples, even if squirted into a little plastic pot of some description.
