Sod pink. Sod lilac. Sod pastel colours generally. And sod cutesy-wutesy slogans. I only want some NICE cheerful T-shirts for my 21mo dd2....

...preferably second hand. I have looked at so many ebay pages that my eyes have gone squiffy. So, where are all the nice clothes that are not overtly aimed at a specific gender?

try tescos, they have some bright solid tshirts for girls, not pastels and plain
next usually do a 3 or 4 pack, quite reasonably priced that are plain colours as well

NomDePlume · 12/04/2007 16:19

iirc tooticky is pretty hot on ethically made/sourced products. I can't see Tesco fitting the bill

MrsBadger · 12/04/2007 16:20

right here - new but v cheap.

MrsBadger · 12/04/2007 16:20

ethical but pricey and only 2yo and up.

bobsmum · 12/04/2007 16:23

Bright Bots are an Australian company - great quality IMO - the bottoms are all designed to go oever cloth adn they're quite reasonably priced I think.

Bright Bots

Ok at £6 they're a bit pricier than I remember but they will last forever.

TooTicky · 12/04/2007 16:29

Ooh, do I have a Reputation?
Yes, I'm afraid Tesco comes under my Companies To Boycott.
Bright bots are lovely and colourful, I wonder what their ethics are like.

I was looking at /link{http://www.ebrookes.co.uk/index.php?f=itemdetl.php&p=1031\these} the other day. If you order 12 they are only £1.99 but be sure to calculate VAT and postage on top.

My dd has a couple of fruit of the loom t-shirts that have lasted her for years.

sweetheart · 12/04/2007 16:33

duh!

bobsmum · 12/04/2007 16:33

TooTicky - you could just phone the lady at Twinkle Nappies. I guess if she's a clothie nappy type she's probably got a conscience so she could tell you a bit more about the company.

MrsBadger · 12/04/2007 16:33

the Twinkle people sound pretty good actually

frogs · 12/04/2007 16:38

Some lovely cheerful and organic ones here . Not cheap, though.

Or I can send you two vaguely funky but mildly pen-stained Tshirts for the price of the postage? I was going to put them in my funky boho bundle on ebay (yes, another quick plug) but didn't want to take the risk of people objecting to the marks.

TooTicky · 12/04/2007 16:39

They do, yes, but there are so many factors to consider... fairly bought cotton, fairly paid workers, the hideous things that the pesticides do to the health of the cotton farmers and the ramifications on their lives and families...

I got some t-shirts in a lovely vibrant blue in the M&S sale last week for £1

florenceuk · 12/04/2007 16:39

hennes? Or would that fail on ethical grounds? Jako-o would fit the bill but they are not cheap.

bobsmum · 12/04/2007 16:41

were you on the thread about Nomads? Just got their catalogue the other day and they're all fairtrade.

I like Bishopston Trading Company too and Spirit of Nature sometimes have a limited selection.

SeeSaw stuff is handmade in the UK but I don't know where their cotton is sourced from.

Lact8 · 12/04/2007 16:42

Not 2nd hand but M&S have a yellow Mr Bump tshirt and a red Mr Happy tshirt in a two pack, I think it was about £8.

I'm trying harder to buy non gender stuff for DS2 so I can put them onto DD when he grows out of them. Its not easy though

TooTicky · 12/04/2007 16:43

Oh, Frogs, yes please!!!!!!!!! (I am one of the people watching your lovely boho bundle ). Would you prefer paypal or postal order (hate cheques, so slow!)?

OP posts:
bobsmum · 12/04/2007 16:43

TT - gerroff the boho bundle - tis min all mine I tell you!!

frogs · 12/04/2007 16:48

email me your address on frogs273hotmailcouk and I'll put them in the post. You can send me a cheque for the postage amount once it arrives. Or if you're planning to bid on the bundle wait until after bidding has finished and I'll chuck them in for free.

TooTicky · 12/04/2007 16:49

Yes, M&S seem to be making an effort ethically.
Hennes are disappointing - have definitely used sweatshops and maybe still do - really expected better from a Swedish company.
Ooh, I didn't know Nomads did stuff for kids - mind you, they are expensive, aren't they?
Bishopston Trading are lovely too.
And Seesaw turns up in charity shops sometimes, which is great.
Thank you to everybody who has contributed so far.

Meant to say - saw some Organic clothing in Asda the other day which was priced the same as their standard stuff. But I guess Walmart is a whole 'nother can of worms?

bobsmum · 12/04/2007 16:53

I know organic doesn't equal ethically produced but I suppose it means a bit of effort.

margoandjerry · 12/04/2007 17:04

Are you near Brent Cross at all? Polarn & Pyret (Swedish shop) there is fab. All bright colours, no logos, no teddies, no "lock up your daughters" slogans...

Lovely stripey tops in reds and blues and greens. NO PINK. Am going there tomorrow!

It is quite expensive (not in a Baby Dior way - more than Hennes but less than Monsoon) but worth it because things last and don't lose colour in the wash etc

TooTicky · 12/04/2007 17:04

Oh god, Walmart, yes indeed. I can't work out if it is good that these big unethical places are jumping on the organic bandwagon - I mean, I suppose they are doing some good but they are also doing other more ethical companies out of business and not actually being as ethical. Can anybody make sense of that last sentence?

Frogs, have emailed you

OP posts:
TooTicky · 12/04/2007 17:05

No, nowhere near. If I added train fare to London it would indeed be expensive clothing
