I am buying some long curtains for our front room, the measurement from the top of the pole to the skirting board is 213 cm the curtains come in 229 or 183, which should I get?

to the floor. I accidently made mine a bit too short and they look stupid.

LilyLoo · 04/04/2007 10:40

to the floor.

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 10:40

that is what I thought was trying to avoid having to take them up.

can you move the pole up or down a bit?

Bucketsofdynomite · 04/04/2007 10:41

I hate the ones that literally fall in a heap on the floor, looks untidy and they get grubby and worn at the bottoms. Was fashionable for a while but going out now.

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 10:43

yes our current ones are a fraction too long and they have got ruined, will have to take them up.

To the floor. Buy the 229 and make it shorter. The short curtains just look stupid.

dejags · 04/04/2007 10:47

I love the look of long curtains (adds height to the room). I would move the pole up so that the curtains just brush the floor (I can't bear the bunched up on the floor look).

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 10:52

hadn't thought of moving the pole. would that not look wierd?

OP posts:
MintChocChippyMinton · 04/04/2007 10:53

have a measure, see where the pole would have to go.

dejags · 04/04/2007 10:54

no all of our curtains poles are 230cms above the floorboards exactly. We had our curtains made to this height because I think it looks lovely.

ScottishThistle · 04/04/2007 10:56

Just touching the floor, sounds like you'll have to take them up!

ucm · 04/04/2007 10:58

I bought them too long and took them up from the top. That way you still get the nice hem. Or you could leave them crumpled on the floor, I have this too in our spare room, to cover some french doors.

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:15

right next curtain question, I need some curtains for my living room as well but can't see another pair I like as much as these, is it very lazy and naff to have the same curtains in two rooms or does it look effortlessly co ordinated.

THey are patterned slightly so woudl ahve to use similar colours in both rooms

LadyMacbeth · 04/04/2007 11:19

Should just skim the floor. No doubt about it.

LadyMacbeth · 04/04/2007 11:20

Which rooms?

LadyMacbeth · 04/04/2007 11:21

Oh - both downstairs living rooms? Sorry - no. Looks lazy and shows lack of imagination. Sorry. UNLESS they are plain neutrals and the rooms are made to look totally different. Which doesn't sound like an option.

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:22

front room and dining room, in our heads we are going to kowck them into one so if I bought them matching it would be an actof great foresight if it were not for the fact we are always too broke to acton our dreams!

OP posts:
deasterjags · 04/04/2007 11:23

Not naff at all.

If they are neutral it should be fine - you always use different tiebacks/curtain rails to change the look.

LadyMacbeth · 04/04/2007 11:23

Oh well in that case it would be a long term investment to keep them matching!

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:25

they are not neutral, we are not a neutral kind of house they are here

OP posts:
deasterjags · 04/04/2007 11:30

deffo not neutral.

If you are definitely going to knock through then it's prudent to get matching. If not, then I'd find another pattern.

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:31

now not sure if they will go with the paper I have ordered for our feature wall . God this is hard work.

OP posts:
deasterjags · 04/04/2007 11:35

I think the vertical strips might clash. Have you combined the samples to get an idea of the effect?

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:38

only briefly, they are not next to each other so I was probably a bit flippant, the paper has been ordered though and it is gorgeu, not as dark as it appears on screen much more vibrant and colourful.

I could do plain curtains I suppose.
