I am buying some long curtains for our front room, the measurement from the top of the pole to the skirting board is 213 cm the curtains come in 229 or 183, which should I get?

Floor!

I might go and look again with my paper samples, they are the only paper and curtains we agree on!

I think I would deffo go for plain curtains. The paper is absolutely gorgeous!

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:45

we have plainish curtains now which I was quite happy with but dp is always moaning about how boring they are!

I think the paper is so gorgeous a patterned curtain will detract from them.

I'd go with a lovely choc brown suedy type curtain (possibly with a matching cerise bottom border).

I prefer the second of the two links. What colour will your non-feature walls be?

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:51

you won't really see the bottom of the curtains that well as we have a two seater sofa in front of that window. Although you will see the bottom when drawn

what colour is the sofa?

deasterjags · 04/04/2007 11:52

I have to run Twinset.

I'll check back on this thread later.

Good luck

twinsetandpearls · 04/04/2007 11:55

that is a final detail on which we can't agree deasterjags! Hence at the moment we are ignoring the other walls and may decide at the end. At present the room is lined and painted natural calico and dp thinks it will work with the paper.I am not sure to be honest, we have hunted high and low for a contrasting but co ordinated paer with no luck.

we have a dark brown leather sofas, two sofas and a chair but with quite light oak furniture as I don't want the room to look too dark as we use the room at the back of our house as our main living room and it can get quite dark in there.

Prefer the second red curtains but will they go with the red in the wallpaper (which is fab)? If not choc brown may be better option if a bit safe. Other walls is tricky, you may want something more beige/taupe than the calico.

Pannacotta · 04/04/2007 15:12

Long curtains should ALWAYS be to the floor. Whether they skim the floor or puddle is up to you, both can look good depending on the style of the room.
Love the wallpaper but perhaps not with the striped curtains.
You could stick with your plain curtains and get some interesting tie backs such as glass or beaded ones in brown and red to match the wallpaper, to liven things up? Lovely paper but think with striped curtains might just be a bit too much.
Or look for fabrics (John Lewis has good selection) and get the curtains made up (it always looks much nicer to have custom made curtains).

And yes perhaps consider a darker colour than calico for the other walls, look at Kelly Hoppen range at B&Q for good taupe colours.
