marthamoo, i think you've fastened them too tight. i did that when i got mine, but now they're looser, but they don't slip around like i feared they would, but my toes do all the work, iyswim. they are VERY comfy now, never take them off.

soapbox · 15/07/2004 22:57

You can get them hwew from QVC

maisystar · 15/07/2004 22:59

ebay, for about £16

hth

hana · 15/07/2004 22:59

you can get new soles on Birkenstocks (sometimes cheaper than buying new) although sometimes if not done at a Birkenstock sotre they don't last long.
Have you tried a google search?

zebra · 15/07/2004 23:08

Hated Birkenstocks, but love my Merrell Catalina sandals (if U cant find what U want).

pollyanna · 15/07/2004 23:09

try the office shoes website (I think it is called Office London?) - don't know if they deliver to Ireland though.

august24 · 15/07/2004 23:24

do a google.com search, I did and found this one
I bought a pair directly from germany called and they came within 2-3 weeks, and are great!

OldieMum · 15/07/2004 23:58

Don't order directly from the Birkenstocks web site. I ordered a pair of sandals in late May, have waited for them until now, and have just given up and cancelled the order. I also found it difficult to get them to answer e-mails enquiring about the state of the order. Quite the worst experience I have ever had with shopping on the net.

marthamoo · 16/07/2004 00:27

I got two pairs, brand new, on ebay - they were £24 a pair though, not £16 (maisystar where did you see them for £16?)

LaRedoute also do them (only Madrid style) - £29.

I am struggling a bit with mine, despite them being touted as the comfiest sandals in the world - I have bruises where the straps go across my foot and I get cramp quite a bit. I will persevere though...

maisystar · 16/07/2004 00:33

if you go into ebay shops, the shop is called BQUEM. they are £17.99 buy it now the madrid ones so have gone up a bit from when i last lookes. the gizeh (toe post) are £24,90 but it no

Piffleoffagus · 16/07/2004 00:37

I got mine off ebay, be careful there are a lot of fakes on Ebay as they sell them for £3 in Thailand and they fall aprt after a month or so!

maisystar · 16/07/2004 00:47

sorry, that last bit was supposed to say buy it now!!

marthamoo · 16/07/2004 01:22

I did wonder, maisystar

marthamoo · 16/07/2004 01:25

I bought mine from an ebayer called bajankirsty - she has sold lots (though she hasn't any at the moment). They were boxed and definitely genuine - Madrids, in baby blue and baby pink, £24 a pair.

layla · 16/07/2004 17:50

FYI, if you want cheap birkie lookalikes, there's a shop in Woolwich High Street called 'Chockers' that sells all sorts of styles for between £7.00 to £15.00. Not as durable as the originals, but should last the rest of this summer.

Millie1 · 16/07/2004 21:53

It's too late for you but Schuh (? spelling) in Belfast do them.

Demented · 17/07/2004 17:10

I've bought from e-Bay, a seller with the user name, hableur-uk, he is in Germany, he sells Madrids for £17.99 plus £5.90 p&p, £1 extra for each extra pair of shoes you order. I have ordered from him twice the first time delivery took over three weeks the second time they were with me within the week, they are the genuine article.

layla · 18/07/2004 17:29

On QVC on Thu is a birkenstocks programme at 10 and 8 o'clock.

motherinferior · 18/07/2004 17:34

Mine did just arrive from the Birkenstock website.

bundle · 18/07/2004 18:19

MI, what kind did you get?

hana · 18/07/2004 21:55

Can a woman own too many pairs of birkenstocks? I own 3 and 1 pair for the garden....

codswallop · 18/07/2004 21:56

I think they look like granary bread, a ittle

marthamoo · 18/07/2004 22:14

So, diehard Birkie fans...do they get comfier? When I was breaking in my DM boots (ah, those were the days...) I had to strap up my ankles with bandages but to be honest I thought I was too old and sensible to suffer for shoes nowadays.
