highchair advice

I would like some advice about which high chair to buy. The M&P evo is well recommended but pricey and so is the stokke. Have around £100 to spend bec a friend wants to buy us a gift. Something portable would be great too.

I've got the IKEA Antilop.
Cheap and cheerful

MrsBadger · 06/02/2007 16:46

Handysitt ?

Stokke and Evo are def not portable and imo the Evo is hideously ugly.

Ali5 · 06/02/2007 16:47

We have the Stokke, love it coz it feels like we all eat at the table together and ds is only 7 months old. Not portable though, although have heard of an Ikea one that costs peanuts and is very easy to use and take around with you.

hunkermunker · 06/02/2007 16:47

We have a Tripp Trapp and an £11.99 booster with tray from Argos (the latter v useful until they can eat out of a bowl reliably and also for travel).

MrsBadger · 06/02/2007 16:47

(I would have said the Antilop but for £100 I think it might be a bit... budget )

DeputyMacDawg · 06/02/2007 16:48

Go on holiday with the change ??

MrsBadger · 06/02/2007 16:50

well that's what I'd do, but the friend giving the present might object!

LaylaandSethsmum · 06/02/2007 16:54

Antilop from IKEA much better imo, no hidden hinges for weetabix to hide!!

LadyClaret · 06/02/2007 17:27

I think I would like it to recline. I to think going on holiday with the change is a great idea but the friend would certainly object!

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 06/02/2007 17:28

why do you want it to recline? [silly q emoticon]

bundle · 06/02/2007 17:40

tripp trapp

tinkerbellie · 06/02/2007 18:43

i have a litaf one that is the same as the handysitt but not as exepensive

it allows them to sit right up to the table and folds completely flat for travel (we will be taking ours on hols with us)

i got ours from asda i think it was £30.00 it's not as nice as the handysitt as it isn;t wooden (plastic comes in diff colours and stainless steel) but i love it and so does dd

LadyClaret · 06/02/2007 23:41

Thanks for the suggestions. Now not sure why I wanted it to recline- maybe if he dropped off. I also liked the padding on them.

hunkermunker · 06/02/2007 23:42

If he drops off, put him to bed!

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 00:13

if you check in the archives you'll see that these threads always go for either the tripp-trapp or antilop and not much else in between. get the tripp-trapp since someone else is paying, but for the record i have the antilop and love it.
why don't you save the money and put the balance in the child trust fund thingie?

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 00:14

my dd has never once fallen asleep at the dinner table, i rather pmsl at reclining chairs.

hunkermunker · 07/02/2007 00:20

(Aitch, I also PMSL laughing at the idea of children who regularly nap in highchairs, but DS2 fell asleep in the highchair the other day - he was reaching down for his drink that he'd dropped and didn't come back up again - he'd zonked! Hard morning at toddlers, you see )

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 00:28

drunk

nappyaddict · 07/02/2007 02:20

we've got the wooden sort that turns into a table and chair for later. we don't use the tray on it cos we have it right up to the table. we got it cos we were going to keep it up all the time and they take up less room than the folding ones. also have a bumbo for when my cousin looks after him and fold flat plastic one to keep in the car.

MrsBadger · 07/02/2007 08:12

(oh, and re padding - you can get cushion inserts for the Tripp Trapp and the Antilop)

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 12:12

another thing i've never understood... more to clean and if your child is in a nappy they are already well-padded. [curmudgeon]

hana · 07/02/2007 12:17

ikea cheapie one good
but tripp trapp they can use forever
dd1 still using hers at 5 - it adjusts

Nip · 07/02/2007 12:21

I have one like this, it reclines, can be cleaned easily and can be set at different heights. from toys r us

Nip · 07/02/2007 12:22

I forgot to add that it isnt actually the one you can see, but its similar and they have loads at Toys R Us.

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 15:33

you know, much as i love the look of the tripp-trapp i've never understood the 'you can adjust it to keep using it' line. you can get chairs in ikea for kids to sit up at table for about a tenner. so that's all your needs serviced for the age of £25.
