I got my first one last year at some point.

And this morning I noticed a cluster near my hairline.

What can I use to dye at home - semi permanent please - that doesn't stink and make the bathroom orange.

TIA.

OMG, grey hair, no libido.........

Seriously, get thee to a proper salon lass. It's the only way.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 17/01/2007 11:27

How old are you Olive?

oliveoil · 17/01/2007 11:28

Piss orf you

I know I should go to a salon - because I am worth it but we are supposed to be on an economy drive and I am quite enjoying being frugal.

Don't do it yourself. Get it done at a salon. You can always tell the difference.

oliveoil · 17/01/2007 11:28

37

(but my MN profile says 16)

If you do it yourself you run risk of looking like one of those old biddies that have really black hair.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 17/01/2007 11:30

I have had grey hairs for over a year now.. and am 34! I blame DS2 personally...

oliveoil · 17/01/2007 11:30

Am nearly 29, have had many white hairs for last 2 or 3 years. Have decided I must live very stressful life!!!

Really ought to dye...am too lazy..maybe this thread will inspire me!

TeeCee · 17/01/2007 11:30

Once you start dyeing that's it though kid, you're there for life. Sure you can't ignore it for a bit longer?

foxinsocks · 17/01/2007 11:31

what colour's your hair?

do you really need to dye it?

katierocket · 17/01/2007 11:31

You know it makes sense Olive.
I have very dark hair and have had grey hairs for couple of years. I get a semi permanent colour done at salon. NO way I'd try and do at home.

oliveoil · 17/01/2007 11:32

I used to have a semi permanent done at the hairdressers every 2 months or so (back when I had the time, money and a life) and it looked very shiny

but since having 2 children it has gone darker for some bizarre reason, curlier and shinier

but grey

tsk

There are lods of threads on here asking for help due to home diy kit gone wrong. And it smears all over your bathroom and towels and forehead. Plus the coour on the bottle is never the colour it actualy comes out.

Don't do it is my advice.

oliveoil · 17/01/2007 11:45

ok

will go to the hairdresser then

and say to dh that MN told me to

xx

oliveoil · 17/01/2007 11:48

I've been going grey since i was 19, am 30 now I've tried every home colour on the market (well perhaps not all of them) and nothing covers my grey. Even salon colour didn't work, but was def the best one for colour, iyswim. Back to diy now cos i'm on AML and i don't think dh would appreciate me spending £60 on a cut and colour when i can get one for a fiver at asda! Men just don't get it do they?!

foxinsocks · 17/01/2007 11:52

ooh I think it looks foxy with streaks of grey olive

can see why you might not like it though - def get it done properly though if you want it done at all

Enid · 17/01/2007 11:54

I use nice and esy 106 when desperate - very good

but nothing beats the salon

if home dying dont go for anything called Warm as it will be red

go for Ash in the name

Azure · 17/01/2007 11:56

My hair is about 80% white - well, that's what my roots look like - and I have to do dye it every 4 weeks. A hairdresser's would cost way to much money to go that frequently. I use L'Oreal Excellence, which is a permanent but gives the best grey (white) coverage and is a lot less messy than some dyes as you put it on dry hair. I have a special old dressing gown that I wear just for this purpose, so it doesn't matter if it gets stained.

I meant foxy as a shortening of your name, not that my hair was foxy btw!

Apparently all hair dyes are exactly the same chemical formula, so you're better off buying the cheapest. The only difference is shades of colour.

The stuff they use at the hairdresser's is also exactly the same, but the reason why you might justify paying £40 instead of £5 is because having someone else apply it does give a more even result, and they won't miss the bits at the back. But if you have to colour your hair every 3-4 weeks like me, the cost of going to the hairdresser's every time would be astronomical.
