We are looking a buying a new bed and wondered if anyone can recommend (or condemn) IKEA's Malm beds as that is our favourite.
TIA

Oooh, thanks, Piff - DS2 needs a new bed and he likes the look of Malm too so I'll be interested to hear comments

nay! very low, kept bashing my legs on the side, several slats broke... really regret buying it.

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:28

Was wondering about the leg bashing potential...

we swapped it back for our old bed when i was pregnant as i couldn't get up out of it.

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:30

breaking slats we're not active enough to snap slats

I'm pregnant and my back giving way is main reasons for immediate need of new bed.

Was lovely... but... the bruises I have from leg bashing are something else! And, we took it apart, and put it back together and it broke. And the veneer stuff chipped off. Nice and low for when DS fell out though I would love to say no, because it really hurts when you bash your leg, but it looks so nice! I was even going to buy another one, but am getting a non leg bashing one instead. Get the table to go over it if you get it

We got the most expensive mattress and topper aswell - soooooo comfy. At least we can use them on another bed

asleep · 29/12/2006 12:34

but... we also have the malm chest of drawers and that's great!

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:34

we are seriously seduced by the hideaway bookcase that goes behind the headboard too
Shin pads... plus won't be pregnant for ever, even it feels like I will be...

Good point, asleep - we have an ancient platform bed, where the mattress sits inside the frame, with square corners; the sides of the bed don't stick out like Malm's but I still have permanent bruises from clouting it.

piff, I think the best style for avoiding bruises is a low-ended bed with rounded posts like this

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:35

we're looking at the most expensive mattress and topper as well
Horsehair or some such configuration
comfort rates highly...

O, and if you take all the slats out, and lay the mattress staright onto the floor (which we had to do when the bed broke) it makes a good co-sleeping bed, as the sides make a little ridge.

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:37

Oh bums, was getting all excited about a new bed, might lok at the hemnes instead then
it has to be ikea I'm a faithful

*straight

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:39

dp just noted that my bedside crib plan might be foiled by a sticky out bed edge.
oh how complicated this is!

i have a bedside cot - mine has a matress thingy the joinss the 2 beds... a mamas and papas one...

sfxmum · 29/12/2006 12:42

i have a huge one but i like low beds anyway its comfortable with a good mattress or in our case two, one for each side.

QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 29/12/2006 12:51

this one - it doesn't show the extra bolster bit

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:52

the height is not so much an issue, am worried about the slats as DP is of generous proportions currently (NY resolutions notwithstanding)

OP posts:
QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 29/12/2006 12:53

my DH is a hefer, and the slats were fine. Again, we bought the most expensive... only £22 or something though.

Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:54

I've got this - and a normal ikea (of course) cot for when baby is older
global crib

OP posts:
Piffle · 29/12/2006 12:55

dp wants you to define heifer in kgs
He is 90kgs and shrinking (not yet)

OP posts:
QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 29/12/2006 12:59

90kgs? Whats that in stone?

QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 29/12/2006 13:00

What I was going to do, before I found the mamas and papas bedside cot was buy some of that foam, and cut it to fit neatly into that gap - like a small mattress. And then put a sheet under the crib mattress going onto the bed or something...
