i am looking into buying DS a highchair. i have a few in mind and would like some opinions/suggestions/recommendations please! thanks in advance.

i have been considering the fisherprice flutterby,Chicco Happy Snack Highchair, and Chicco Polly Double Phase highchair. i am beginning to wonder whether its worth paying £80 for a highchair as it seems a bit expensive.

please help!

I have chico polly one it is brilliant. For comfort and support and longevity I would reccommend spending a little more-you will need it for at least 18 months.

Gingerbear · 27/12/2006 20:30

have a look here

QuootiepieTheChristmasAss · 27/12/2006 20:31

I have a chicco one... Cant remember what one, but it was £99 and I wish id bought a tripp trapp, or the one in Ikea thats £20. Its a nightmare to keep clean, food gets in all the layers and under the pads... I spend about an hour and a half in total every day cleaning it! Every few days it all needs to be fully disassembled and put in the bath aswell and showered down. Get an easy to clean one!

asleep · 27/12/2006 20:32

i bought a fisher price health care one. it was £70 and i can't fault it.

pootletheinvisibleflump · 27/12/2006 20:44

Can't recommend the Tripp Trapp highly enough - it is fantastic!!!!!

Definitely excellent value for money as it will last for years and still looks as good as the day I bought it 2 years ago.

Good luck, take your time and choose carefully

Our high chair cost us (well MIL) £99 in 2001. It is the the Mamas and Papas Prima Pappa and is fab. The tray is big but we recently took it off and the baby sits up to the table. I has wheels for easy movement around the kitchen, but also a wheel break. It has several height levels and recline positions and has served us well with 3 children. We bought a second cover as it had split but I would recommend it.

i have had a look at the tripp trapp. it looks really uncomfortable on the pictures! i know it says how good itis for posture etc. but our ds is only 4 months old and so will need more support.

i cant believe how difficult this is. i didnt think it would take so long to decide! ideally i want one that reclines, is quite paded and has the plastic knob (for the want of a better word) that sticks up between the legs so that he cant wriggle out of it.

keep the advice coming it is all giving me things to think about/look into.

thank you for the repies so far.

i used mine for DS from about 4 months. and it has all those requirements you listed.

TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 27/12/2006 21:00

Used tripp trapp with both DDs.
DD1 has Down';s syndrome so loose floppy muscle tone, was great for her.
Also good for DD2 and used them for both kids as soon as they could support own heads, DD1 is now still in hers as a seat and I can sit on it as well and DD2 still uses hers and she's 1 now.

REIDnotREEDorREAD · 27/12/2006 21:01

i must admit i like that one asleep. infact it is my favorite so far. what is the material like? some of the pics i've seen make it look very 'plasticy' iykwim

We have just bought our second Mamas and Papas Prima Pappa (DH broke the one we used for DD - this is now for DS, who is almost 6 months). I researched the market again before buying it and decided it was still the best one. It is very well padded, has the plastic thingy in the middle and it reclines, so DS can sit on it comfortably now, even though he can't sit up. Also, it has a removable tray that clips over the other tray. Very useful if you want to clean one after a meal while they play with toys on the other one. It is a bit hard to keep clean, but not that hard. We bought DD a Tripp Trap about when she was about 2. It is nice for her to have an adjustable seat etc and it looks good. I considered buying a second one for DS, but I think it would just be too uncomfortable for a very young child - the padding on the padded seat looks rather meagre to me.

asleep · 27/12/2006 21:10

it is soft padding with a plastic cover. it seems comfy and it's very easy to wipe clean.

Wid · 27/12/2006 21:13

I've had a M&P Prima Pappa for 5+ years for my two boys and it is still going strong. It is an excellent chair which reclines for younger babies or for when your little one falls asleep eating and needs forty winks. HOWEVER, I feel that the table position is too high and I nearly bought an alternative chair second time around. I was very tempted by the Fisher Price Health Care which has a lower table position, but decided I couldn't justify the cost. When DS2 sat in his friend's, he loved it!

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 27/12/2006 21:14

where are you reid? I have 2 Prima Pappas (thanks to DTs!) that are sat doing nothing in the garage if you're interested, I'm in NEast

REIDnotREEDorREAD · 27/12/2006 21:14

i'm torn now between the fisherprice one and the mamas and papas one! i have just found the mamas and papas one for £65 onebay (second hand obviously) or i could get the fisher price one brand new. mmmh decisions decisions!

White Ikea was is brill. Only about 11 quid. I gave away my expensive one to make room for it!

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 27/12/2006 21:17

Just to the south of Durham.

fishie · 27/12/2006 21:20

best thing about tripp trapp is how easy it is to clean and keep clean. a lot of plastic ones do not have removable straps and the cushions house myriad food scraps. nappy = padded bottom so wooden seat no prob.

also plastic ones tend to use enormous floor area and constantly trip othes up. antilop cheapy at ikea is great value, but again has wide legs.

REIDnotREEDorREAD · 27/12/2006 21:24

a good 6 round trip unfortunately! would you be willing to sell one of them (taking into consideration the postage) they are asking £65 on ebay for one including postage. Feel free to email me rather than discuss it on here if you wish
