DD - age 6 - Babydoll from Mary Shortle cost £60 but looks and weighs the same as a real baby, 3 wheeler pram, skates and protective pads and various other presents.

DS - age 4 - Bike, Powerangers suits, guns, robot etc, guitar and lots of other things.

Spent about £500 in total

FairytaleOfNewNORKSBRIDE · 13/12/2006 22:56

DD1 aged 5 : Playmobil Viking Longboat, Nessie and Vkiking Playset. New riding clothes.

DS1 aged 3 : Playmobil Pirate Ship. Chainsaw (obviously a toy one, we're not from Texas you know).

DD2 aged 2 : Baby Annabel cot, Playmobil Medieavel House (as a sort of cod-dollshouse). (No not Cod, as in iCod). (Oh never mind).

DD2 (5) - babby annabel dolls pram, dancing Genevieve and a scooter

We have spoilt them rotten this year - but I think it's going to be a good christmas this year. The girls are at a good age to really take it in - I also am feeling better than ever after 7 years of PND and depression. Wanted to push the boat out and have a really good time.

snig · 13/12/2006 23:42

Hey fairytaleofnewnorksbride sorry to interrupt but was wondering where you got your viking playset, we bought ds a viking long boat for christmas but cant find any vikings!

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 00:08

On radio five live this pm they were saying that the very ball part average figure spent per child in the UK for Christmas, by their parent(s) is £400!!!

I nearly crashed the car!! Is everyone mad!!? If I had that kind of money, I just wouldn't!! (And I don't know many "average people" clearly, either!)

twinsetandpearls · 14/12/2006 00:09

I feel guilty at the amount we have spent on dd, probably just over £100 as we normally spend about £20 to £30 but we were decorating her room so ahve managed to sneak bits in as Christmas presents to avoid spending extra.

ShepherdswatchedtheirfLOCKETS

Why didn't you nominate yourself for the xmas thread??

What ages are your children?

Are they girls or boys?

Maybe someone will still be able to help.

fortyplus · 14/12/2006 01:33

Surely no sane person routinely spends £400 per child on Christmas presents?!!

It's an expensive time of year for us as ds1 has his bd on 27/12.

Here's what mine are getting...

ds1 from us - England Rugby shirt, 2 PS2 games, rugby book - total about £75

From 'Santa' - a K'nex kit he's been after - A rollercoaster - £59.99

ds2 from us - Bongo drums - £29.95
From 'Santa'- radio controlled speedboat £40

So as you can see, we don't even bother about spending the same on each child - we just get something we know they will love. It might be £20 or £100 - I don't think I would ever spend more unless it was on something like a bike or a musical instrument. ds1 wants his own French Horn - they start at around £1000 so I've told him he'll have to wait till he's 18!

Nice one Lockets - stocking fillers will be very interesting for children their age and the 3yo will be thrilled to bits just because everything is Christmassy (is that even a word?).

I wish I didn't have any debt

yULeYSEES · 14/12/2006 10:54

shepherds..you have a very healthy attitude to Christmas may I say. It's good to hear someone who isn't sucked in by the consumerism. Hope you and yours have the best of times hun

moljam · 14/12/2006 10:54

my dd-6-roller skates and dolls house
ds-5-roller skates and remote control k9
ds-1-spinning top.
and a couple of bits each.
we have huge family and i feel they get spoilt but its so hard to not buy things espesially as we dont buy things throughout year.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 14/12/2006 10:57

ds1 - keyboard/mike and stool

ds2 - drum kit

between them - mini-fridge for snacks and drinks

various little bits (books, new PJs etc)

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 14/12/2006 10:58

...but most of it is off ebay/cheap, so we're not stupid materialist scumbags, honest.....

moonshine · 14/12/2006 11:06

I certainly would never spend £400 per child, even if we did have the money, but I have spent more than £100 on each of mine. My parents were/are poor immigrants but always scrimped and saved for presents for family and friends - it was always important to be expansive in our house. I think I have, to some extent, inherited their attitude.

Dd has a Nintendo lite and a big Hamas bead set.
Ds has a large Thomas train set and a stretchy Scooby (oops, probably not age-appropriate, but all toys will be shared and supervised anyway).

Both also receive from Santa books, dvd, pens and stationery, and other cheaper flipperies. And lots of other things I have probably put to the back of my mind because if I don't mention it then I haven't spent the money, have I .
