'big' knickers for a 4-year-old girl. Or at least comfy ones...??

My dd is driving me crazy with her complaining about uncomfortable knickers. I've tried loads of different sizes from too big and baggy to tight. And I thought today that those really big pants that go up over your tummy, granny pants / pregnancy pants might suit her. Or some kind of little shorts.

or anything really ... anybody seen any good quality comfy-looking knickers around?

We changed into 6 different pairs this morning and still went out with her wriggling and writhing.

Mothercare ones seem to come up higher than some of the others DD has. However, not like we used to have in the olden days

imaginaryfriend · 23/11/2006 23:01

Nope, Mothercare don't work for her.

It's those 'olden days' ones that I'm sure would solve her problems ...

Hello ss! Got your tent out yet?

No, what's Shaws?

Would boxers not be very baggy? I think the bagginess is part of the problem.

My dd is skinny with a skinny bottom too.

Have you tried Tesco?

We got some girls pants that look like boxer shorts.

Not at all baggy.

Also, have you got her any with her favourite tv character on???

That works well!!!!

Failing all of that, take her shopping and let her choose.

Then it's her choice, not yours!!!!

Kids like to feel in control!!

I found ladybird (woolies) pack of 10 for £4 in size 5-6 worked best for my dd - as long as I keep them out of the tumble and prevent the shrinking! btw she's 3.8 and well above average for age.

FrivolentDemon · 24/11/2006 07:46

H&M - lovely. Sort of shaped like boys pants, but girly with thick but soft elastic so they stay on well.

imaginaryfriend · 24/11/2006 10:15

ss I don't suppose there's a Shaws online?

fussymummy, yep, tried the character pants - Scooby Doo, even bloody Spongebob (she's not into girly characters, or pink, so that also makes it hard). I don't think this is anything other than her being extremely sensitive to clothes 'digging in' or just generally not feeling invisible! She's refused to wear favourite jeans, tights, all kinds of things because they're not 'comfy' but knickers are the worst.

I haven't seen any pants in H&M, I should look there.

And I'll look out for boxer types - do they tend to have a seam that goes from front to back through the buttocks though? I think it's those seams touching her genitals that also seem to drive her crazy ... sigh ...

What about M&S? They're nice and "high" but fitted too? My DD likes these best.

hulababy · 24/11/2006 10:31

My 4yo DD has been wearing age 5-6 for a while. She likes her pants comformatable and not too close fitting.

imaginaryfriend · 24/11/2006 10:48

hula, I've been getting age 5-6, that's all she's put up with so far but now the bagginess of them is starting to bug her. She needs something that goes higher up over her hips I think. She's got a very small bottom and extremely narrow hips and her thighs are very close together.

MamaG, tried M&S.

I need old-style granny knickers. But for a 4-year-old!

dd wears Petit Bateau undies that I get from La Redoute
very comfy and well cut (she is very slim with small hips and bum), very soft cotton and elasticated waist is really comfortable too
best pants around IMO
you can buy online too

imaginaryfriend · 24/11/2006 10:54

Ok, I'll take a look at those, thanks. Are they very short in the body part?

xena · 24/11/2006 10:54

These are the ones my DD1 whos 4 wears We got hers in the summer though so they are pink and white

imaginaryfriend · 24/11/2006 11:14

They look quite good xena, especially as they have black stripes for my little goth girl! Are they not quite big if for a 5-6 year old?

fussymummy · 24/11/2006 21:55

Those boxer style pants are like the ones i got for my 5 year old.

Got them from tesco.

£5 for 3 pairs i think, and they have 20% of all clothing and accessories at the moment!!

imaginaryfriend · 24/11/2006 22:10

fussymummy, I'll go and look in Tesco tomorrow I think.

I've looked at the La Redoute ones and I don't think they'd be right. I think the Next ones would be great except age 5-6 is really going to be big on dd in that style.

LIZS · 25/11/2006 17:49

dd has some of the Petit Bateau ones and they are lovely, soft and cosy, shaped rather like old school knickers and no thin elastic to irritate them ! Absorba and H and M are similar

2ndtime · 25/11/2006 18:26

I bought DD1(12) some girlboxers from top shop. Ladies size 8. My tomboyish DD2(7) took a shine to them and pinched a pair. They are tiny sizes and they fit her lovely. They are very comfy, and she's a fussy customer. I think they also do size 6 and probably a 4. Blooming expensive for kids though at £5 a pair. Even my knickers dont cost that much!!

mrsratty · 25/11/2006 18:47

M&S sell thermal knickers which are high, and granny style. They are better than the normal knickers they sell.

imaginaryfriend · 25/11/2006 20:44

Our H&M don't sell girls knickers. Not sure if they are available online?

I haven't heard of Absorba?

I'll look out for those M&S thermals, thanks!
