You mean those ones that are spotted like a cow and go on the hob? I think they're called MukkaExpress?

I saw them in John Lewis and I want one, yes.

Enid · 16/11/2006 10:03

i wpould NEVER get one as you are stuck with their coffee

buy a gaggia instead

expatinscotland · 16/11/2006 10:04

Oh, I see what you mean. NO! I agree w/Enid. Those pods are expensive, too. And wasteful. And the coffee is generally kack.

iota · 16/11/2006 10:05

we've had one for ages and we use it all the time - dh loves it

iota · 16/11/2006 10:06

and my French friend was very impressed by the expresso that it makes

pupuce · 16/11/2006 10:06

It's fab.... I have been using Nespresso at my mum and MIL for years ... BUT it's NESTLE so I have declined one as a x-mas present.
Each coffee costs 0.24p (price of capsule).

Enid - I have a gaggia and I do NOT prefer it.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/11/2006 10:07

we've had coffee several times out of them at various friends houses (including one coffee trader!!!) and dh thinks it is a better cup of coffee than from gaggia (i guess it depends what coffee is being used though).

which model have you got iota?

OP posts:
pupuce · 16/11/2006 10:08

The Magimix machine is very good.

LucyJu · 16/11/2006 10:09

Espresso - not expresso! (sorry, I know I should leave it, but I'm afraid I just can't help myself on this one).
Aren't these things just some version of a home vending machine? And nestle, to boot?

Bagpuss30 · 16/11/2006 10:09

I love mine! We have had it for nearly 5 years now and are considering upgrading to a better model soon. The coffee isn't kack at all although I agree the packaging is wasteful. The customer service people are great too - we had a package with a couple of damaged capsules in it and I phoned to ask for some replacements. They sent us the whole order in duplicate the following day .

Heathcliffscathy · 16/11/2006 10:10

oh f8ck pupuce....the ethical dimension.

nestle is devils corp i know...

erm....magimix...isn't that just a filter system? we've got a cafetiere!

OP posts:
iota · 16/11/2006 10:12

sophable - I don't think they make ours any more - its an automatic Krups - looks vaguely like this one

pupuce · 16/11/2006 10:13

I am afraid the ethics won me over as my mum was all ready to give me one at Christmas!
The coffee is really good... you never get it wrong and there are several choices. Now they have many longos not just expresso's. There are at least 3 sorts of decafs as well.
I think if you type Magimix in Google you should see the range.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/11/2006 10:13

what i need is someone that is really good at trying loads of things out and knowing the technical side of what makes them good....

oh hu2dee -eeeeee where are you?????

OP posts:
iota · 16/11/2006 10:14

sorry about my typo LucyJu - I can spell - I'm just not that great at typing in a hurry.

Yes Nestle are teh devil's work, but dh doesn't care

PrincessPeaHead · 16/11/2006 10:14

I have one, it is excellent and the coffee isn't cack at all (although some of the pods are betteer than others - I like the green one but the gold one is horrid)

my nanny has just married an italian - I made him an espresso from my machine and he was amazed how good it was - so much so that he asked for one for a wedding present!

pupuce · 16/11/2006 10:15

Look here

pupuce · 16/11/2006 10:17

I think the coffee itslef is very good.
Nespresso have been on sale for well over 10 years... maybe 15. It is newer in the UK but as long as I have been with DH I have known Nespresso and we've been together 17 years !

Enid · 16/11/2006 10:18

the packaging

god I would never ever get one

my kiwi friend makes THE BEST COFFEE (tm) and she uses some catering make of coffee machine

it is fab

Twinkie1 · 16/11/2006 10:21

I have one and think it is great - drink loads of coffee - except today as just got back from the shop and made a lovely cup of instant and poured the milk in to watch it congeal in the cup - DS been fiddling with the temperature in the fridge again and now have to throw all the milk and half of the other stuff away - am gagging for a nice warm milky drink but am not going to the shop again!!!

pupuce · 16/11/2006 10:23

That is another reason why I turned the machine down... it make me drink MORE coffee than I would otherwise. I know I do this when I stay at MIL.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/11/2006 10:30

pph, which machine would you get? there are loads of them aren't there?

Mimie2403 · 16/11/2006 10:53

Oh I LOVE my Nespresso machine. Had it for 5 years now and still going strong. I have the Magimix 300. Just a few buttons with a LCD display. Put water in, turn it on, wait for it to heat up, put in capsule, click button, coffee ready, you just need to remember to take capsule out. Nthing technical to it really. If you have too much money and are a cappuccino lover, they have just released a machine for £700 which automatically froths the milk and adds it to the coffee (check website for better explanation...).
Anyway, for myself and DH I only use it to make espresso in the mornings and after lunch during the weekends. It's the only thing I miss from home when on holiday. Some of my friends drink 'long' coffee and they never seem to turn down the offer of a second cup. Nespresso has just released 3 flavoured varieties as well. Just ordered them yesterday so haven't tried yet.

iota · 16/11/2006 11:00

we have a \link(secure.nespresso.com/precom/n_acc_tous_at_en.html\Nespresso Aeroccino as well (dh and his love of gadgets)

Mimie2403 · 16/11/2006 11:35

Iota, is that aerocinno really worth £50? I have hidden the nespresso magazine from my DH because if he sees it I know he'll want to buy it for his macchiatto. I don't think I really need more kitchen gadgets! The M300 can make froth as well but not in a very gadgety fashion...
